Beck's free in the MMP

Greetings from the little house on the prairie. (sorta)

Wifey had to go back to the valley last night for business, but just texted me that there were 3 confirmed cases there in our little town. She’s packing up and heading back here. Screw it. We may be here for some time.

Howdy Happy new week.

I had sent a leave request to TPTB on Firday asking for this week off. I never heard a thing until I got to irk and there was an approval mail on my irk computer. Since I am here I decided to stay the day and will be off Tuesday, Wed and Thursday. We are finally closing down on Firday at the Close of Business. I will come in on Firday and do my EOM/FOM stuff early. Then on the actual first I will only need to come in long enough to print my purchase card statement.

Then staying inside isolated until who knows when.

That ain’t Mumper speak, it’s a this side of the pond thing; apparently it stands for Ministry of Transport test, but everyone just calls it an MOT, because the Ministry of Transport doesn’t actually exist any more. It’s the British annual car safety check.

I didn’t actually know what it stood for before I looked it up… Huh. I thought it was Motor ??? Test, apparently not.

“Save the zoo” seems like the kind of cause people would get behind. The one here is free. I’m not 100% sure how they run… I guess probably at least partially taxpayer money? Which is fine with me. And donors. They seem to be doing okay and always in the process of remodeling some part. It’s fun watching it go from being an old zoo with some habitats not really ideal for the animals they house to a more modern zoo with beautiful, spacious habitats.

Doctor’s appointment went fine. As expected, no real news. Got another MRI scheduled this week, got some more blood drawn. He didn’t want to tell us what he thought it might be except for good ol’ “could be MS or something like it.” 2/3 of the blood results are already back, but just the results, not the interpretation. I can get some of the gist of it from working in the veterinary field, but am anxious to hear what the doctor has to say. It’s kind of all over the place- several things quite significantly high or low and several borderline. I googled a little, but then decided that was a bad idea and I should just wait. PT to be started once things are less COVIDy. I see the neurologist again in June unless the MRI shows something that needs to be addressed right away. Or… well, depending on what they think of the blood results.

No homeschool from me today. My roommate (the one to whom the child belongs) is home and I was sort of expecting to be occupied with doctor-related activities, so she’s in charge of lessons today. But she’s not into it, so the kid is watching TV.

I’m trying to figure out a good way to get more books here. Like physical books. Some for me (although I have a cheap old tablet I can dig up and get Kindle books on it. I prefer physical books, but I can make do), but mostly for the kid. I have a couple, but they’re beyond her reading level/attention span and she has zero interest in reading them. I think it would really benefit her to have some things she could read for fun. I’m going to get on Amazon and at least try to make a list of some popular ones at the right reading level. And once quarantine is over if I’m able to get out on my own, I’m going to insist on weekly library trips so she can pick her own stuff. She’ll enjoy it more if she picks it out and she’ll have a better idea of what’s interesting and not too hard or too babyish than I do. In the meantime, I think I’m going to start with Charlotte’s Web and some Junie B. Jones on the tablet and we’ll read it together.

Happy Mundane Day, Mumpers!

Welcome back, Beckers! Hope the transition to home life is smooth and that the Meezers are happy to see you, whether they show it or not.

I’m going to brave a trip to the mall today. It’s going to close for the duration as of 7 pm, and that’s where the closest liquor store is. You can only enter it from outside, so I won’t be IN the mall. I shan’t hoard! No need, and I can only get what I can carry back to my house, being on foot and all. But you know, I might need a little for medicinal purposes. And it keeps!

Will then head to the store to see if they have sparkling water. I can drink tap water, of course, but I like a little fizz in my life.

Stay safe, everyone!

Cold and rainy today. Having an Old Fashioned. Gordie finally pooped today at 5.:dubious:

W00T! Welcome back!

Howdy Y’all! We spiffed da cave then accomplished nappage. I hauled in the biiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can from the curb, then sup got made and et. We have settled into an eatin’ routine of sorts. Break the Fast, a snack around eleven or twelve and sup betwixt four and five everyday. A snack in the evenin’ if desired. So far that has been good for these two retired old farts. Neither of us ventured out today so we might tomorrow. We should gas up both vehicles. That could be tomorrow’s excursion.

Dots hope you get to find out whatever it is soonest. Sometimes I think the process of gettin’ a diagnosis is the most painful part, especially when that involves test after test and then some more tests and then throw in a couple more tests, and then just for the heck of it, throw in a couple more tests.

*Grrrr *at Lifebridge Health. They sent a bill for one of FCD’s appointments. That’s not the Grrrr. It’s their “Pay Online” option. Pretty straightforward, except not. It keeps telling me the account number doesn’t exist - but it’s right there on the bill! So I’ll have to call tomorrow. Or I could just mail it in. Whatever - it’ll happen tomorrow.

The poke roast was yum and falling apart. The leftovers will become pulled poke. The dishwasher is washing. I’m about to assume the recline position.

I did vacuum today, so I accomplished something. Right?

Waiting for tele-doc. I’m pretty sure I’ve been in queue for close to three hours now, and have been switched to a different queue once already. I get that medical professionals don’t operate “first in, first out” and that they’re quite busy, but it’s getting frustrating. Urgent care refuses to even talk to me by phone and I’m not sick enough for ER. (grump)

STILL waiting, just got flipped to a third different doc.

So you’re saying that Gordie was full of shit? :dubious:

How old is the kiddo ** dot**? If she’s reading at the Junie B. level, try the Conservation Tales series by Tom McConnell (disclaimer: I graduated from HS with him and have purchased several for the little heathens myself. They’re informative and entertaining.)

nellie, I use a SodaStream TM for my fizz fix. I can get ~6-8 weeks out of a cartridge drinking 40 oz. a day.

{{{nettie}}} Sending hugs and virtual chicken soup.

I took Nelson out on the green way again this afternoon, this time through a wooded area of it. It was beautiful with the spring greening. We did around a mile. I studied for about 45 minutes when we got home.

Tonight, I’ll work on the family cookbook project again. I usually do two a year for selected family members and got an early start this year.

Finally got through to tele-doctor, he’s going to email necessary documents for employer and EDD regarding quarantining me. Also recommending testing, am waiting for documentation on that. Odd that he thought I should hole up at home, but it’s OK for DH to go to irk as long as he’s not symptomatic (I am symptomatic except for a fever).

{{Nettie}}, take care and glad you finally got through to the Doc.

Nellie, don’t have any kid books, but if you like SF or History, I can probably spare a few for you (have about 1,800 books in my private library).

{{Dots}}, hope the tests at least tells you something; not knowing is the worse situation of all.

Napped this afternoon but stuck by my vow and put about 10-12 pictures up today. Need to frame about 6-8 more and put them up tomorrow.

Got another letter from the Census, I had saved my original letter and the numbers were the same, this one was ‘just a reminder’ if you haven’t done it yet.

Everybody have a good evening now.

Cupcakes, order it on line, then you can pick it up and not have to go too far inside the store. Or there is always the Jungle…

I head into the liquor store. See an employee. “So you guys are closing tonight, huh?” He said, “No, we have our own entrance. We don’t have to play by mall rules.”

Oh. Now I’d feel stupid if I turned around and left, but since they’re staying open, I no longer feel the need to get anything. I finally grabbed a bottle of whiskey. The store has tape marks so customers will space themselves at the checkout. I approve.

Next I went to the grocery store. I would like to give everyone their an A for improved behavior. Last time I was the only one trying to stay 6’ away from people. This time everyone did. No tape marks, but people still stayed 6 feet apart in the register lines.

Red, I’ve seen those SodaStream devices and have wondered if people really use them after the novelty wears off. Good to know they do! I have limited counter space, but I’m going to consider it.

MetalMouse, I think you meant to direct the remark about books to Dot.

nettie, glad you finally got to talk to the doc. That’s weird your husband gets to go to work even though he may have been exposed. That’d make me uneasy.

Yay! nellie has liquor. Party at her house.

I wonder if any of us on the SDMB will get COVID-19. As far as statistics go, quite a few are likely to get it and survive, with maybe one getting it really bad. Like, right now I have the early stages of a cold, but the symptoms for COVID-19 are also very much similar to a cold, so I might be one that gets it!

It’s weird to be inside a sci-fi movie like this.

I thought we’d have cooler outfits, but here I am, in my jammies :frowning:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Might be rain tonight. Or not. Today is laundry day and we may venture out to gas up vehicles. Neither of us is in desperate need to gas up, but might as well since gas prices are still relatively cheap. Sup shall be pepper steak. I shall start my weekly round of phone calls to folks this afternoon/evenin’ as well. Have I mentioned that we are under curfew from ten p.m. to six a.m.? Of course, that does not matter for either of us as all that is durin’ sleep hours.

{{{Nettie}}} glad you finally got through to the doc. Hope you can at least get tested soon. Weird that the doc said DH could go to irk as long as he is not symptomatic. Symptomatic is a hard word to spell!

Nuts my “uniform” is tshirt and shorts, which are also my jammies. So if it’s any consolation my “uniform” is also less than cool.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Thanks for a morning laugh!

**BatBoy **- last night while we were watching TV, my head was congested and I had a bit of a cough. Naturally, I started worrying that I was carrying plague. Then the congestion cleared and the coughing stopped, so I must have caught the short course. Or maybe it was an allergic reaction to the cat that had been in my face all day… hmmmmmm

**FCD **had to get up early for a meeting, which, thankfully, he’s doing via phone. He’s so worried that something will cause his surgery to be delayed. I feel like that’s almost inevitable, dammit. But we’ll keep a happy thought.

Daughter has a meeting at her school - not a biggie, tho - I think there are fewer than 10 on the entire staff. Small private school with about 50 students, y’know. So I’ll be wrangling Roxy for a portion of the day. I need to start on the lower cabinets - maybe when the kid is napping. Three of the cabinets are drawer stacks, so relatively easy to tackle. Two others are corner cabinets - those will suck mightily. I may ask for help with them. But not today. The other 4 will be doable with minimal cussing.

Looks like we’ll have some sun - maybe we can get RoxStar out in the fresh air for a bit.

Happy Tuesday!
