It starts soon on BBC America I guess.February 25th I believe. It’s already airing in the UK, and looks like they’ve made some significant changes to the show. I’m excited. Watching the US version seems like a chore in comparison.
I’ll be watching, and very curious about what will be happening next in the show.
I also watch the American Syfy version, at first it was a chore, because they were essentially just repeating the plot of the UK version. Now it’s different enough to keep me interested. I still prefer the UK version though.
Hmmm–I will certainly watch, though I think they should have ended the show at the close of the last season. That was kind of a perfect “The End” finale.
I wasn’t overly impressed by the first episode (except for the ending). But I suppose it was neccessary due to the cast changes. They have got steadily better since then. They scenes between Hal and Tom are often a delight. Although polar opposites in experience they are both somewhat clueless about the modern world (well as modern as it gets in Barri (somewhere around the 1970’s)).
The dialogue has a number of Pythonesque moments. One of my favourites so far concerns the list of things Hal (the vampire) needs to be kept away from.
People
Dogs (especially small ones)
Budgies (it was only the once - and he apologised afterwards)
Kia-ora (We don’t talk about the Kia-ora incident.)
Tom (the boy Mcnair turned and raised) is probably the highlight of the show for me. He’s observant, and at times insightful, with a wonderful innocence about him. Yet at the same time he’s a dispassionate killer when it comes to vampires.
I’m not yet sure about Hal. The actor is great, it’s just the character seems too much of a carbon copy of Mitchell at present.
It’s hard not to compare it to season 3 of Misfits. Brit supernatural comedy - 3rd series - Major character change(s) - and BH’s Tom is played by the brother of M’s Kelly. At present I do have to give Being Human the edge. And I do want to know how the seasons arc turns out.
Just saw the Season Four opener last night. *That *was . . . unnecessarily sad and dark and depressing. I love Sinead Cusak and Russell Tovey . . . and am not crazy about “Fake Gyllenhaal” (whoever plays mumbling werewolf boy).
I do hope they get back to what made the series so enjoyable to start with: three friends living together trying to deal with being freaks and monsters. This apocalyptic human/werewolf/vampire war? No one cares. At least it bores me silly. I just want the day-to-day interaction between well-written, well-acted characters.
I’m really enjoying it, although the first episode gave me chills as I watched it with my 3 week old baby daughter in my arms. I loved the dynamic they’ve started building between Tom and Hal.
I watched the opener last night. I thought that I was going to be royally put off by the new werewolf, but he worked better than I thought, and the new vampire looks like he’ll be fine, too. Going in, I was totally unaware that Russell Tovey had decided to move on, which was kind of pleasant because in this era of rampant spoilers, I rarely get the chance to be surprised like that.
Just saw the first episode last night. Well that was… wtf? OK, so now other than Annie it’s a whole new cast? Well that sucks, the cast is what I liked about the original series. And it’s turned into some kind of stupid sci-fi futuristic vampire vs human/werewolf war? I honestly got a bit confused there for a sec and thought it was some weird Doctor Who cross-over, with the opening scenes set in “2037” and the military guy killing the blonde woman so she could save the world or something. I forgot time travel wasn’t a part of this show.
Very unimpressed and honestly don’t care what happens next.
I was surprised at Russell Tovey leaving also, but to be honest I’m relieved I won’t have to listen to him scream anymore. There was something about his high-pitched screaming that made me cringe.
Tom the teen wolf is great, and he’s a perfect replacement.
Not sure about the new vampire yet. What’s up with the right side of his face? Is he doing that on purpose, like a tic or something?
The blond woman had herself killed so she could enter the dead realm, and from there who knows? Counts as time-travel I guess, but I don’t have a problem with it.
Kinda reminds me of Primeval the way they switch things up every season/series.
Primeval is a good comparison for what the show has become. Both show a dystopian future world and involve time travel by someone in an attempt to prevent the disaster. I preferred the original series, which was more about how the three characters coped with their circumstances.
What the hell, they killed Nina off between seasons?
WHAT THE DOUBLE HELL THEY KILLED OFF GEORGE?
Damn, now all the interesting original characters are gone (fuck Annie or Sally or whatever her name is, she’s the most boring character in every version of the show)
Man, I’m really going to miss George. No one turned into a wolf in such a convincingly painful manner as that actor.
Am I remembering wrong, or wasn’t Nina stabbed and very close to death in the season finale last year? And then made a miraculous recovery? That’s pretty shitty to then kill her off between seasons like that.
Saw it last night, and I found myself getting really irritated with Annie. Look, bitch- you’re a ghost. The scary vampires can’t hurt you if you don’t let them. You, on the other hand, can kick their asses. I just couldn’t believe that she didn’t go nuclear when the vamps grabbed Eve.
On the UK version ghosts have no problem with interacting physically. Its just that they can’t be seen (sometimes, there was that whole weird subplot in series 2 about her getting a job in a bar) by ordinary people.
On the US version ghosts have major trouble with interacting physically, though it’s not completely impossible. Still can’t be seen by most people, though.
I don’t get the hate - this series is easily the best yet. As much as I enjoyed how they’d made the personal struggles of the characters central to the show it also limited it somewhat. And don’t kid yourself, the continuing struggle with Herrick and his mob was a classic Vampire Clan trope, so escalating it to Vampires vs humanity is not cashing in on anything new, it’s a logical progression.
I love how there are so many unanswered questions at the moment and a strong story arc for the series, feels like Battlestar Galactica. Who is the girl from the future? I’m guessing she’s Eve, but then why does she want to kill her earlier self? Clearly the third part of the parchment told her something that made this all explainable, but what? What does Cullen want? (apart from to have sex with me - please say that’s his plan!) Can Tom and Hal coexist long term?
I really don’t understand the accusation that Hal is simply Mitchell again, he’s a completely different character, and a much better one IMO. I’ll miss Russell Tovey, but he’s got a strong career going now and I’ve read interviews with him where he says he doesn’t want to get stuck in a rut. Can’t blame him.
