Best 2010/11 New Year's Eve broadcast on TV?

I watched a little bit of Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s party and I just could not stand either Seacrest or Jenny McCarthy. God, she was fucking awful. So I flipped over to Fox and that wasn’t much better. We ended up watching some crappy old 80s movie with Daniel Stern for a bit before turning it off in defeat.

I don’t have cable, but judging from the clips I watched today on YouTube, I should have been watching CNN with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin. She was fucking hilarious and I almost felt sorry or AC because she would not stop baiting him. Anderson Cooper is awesome and his class is boundless. No matter how much Kathy tried to drag him into the prurient mud, he refused to go. It was so entertaining watching him try to raise the level of entertainment out of the gutter Kathy clearly was steering it into.

The phone call with his mom was cool, too. I wish I’d seen more of this last night. I felt completely let down my network TV. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

What did you watch and what did you think of it?

Anderson and Kathy, same as last year. If not for them, it would have been Andy Cohen and Kim Zolciak on Bravo.

But Anderson and Kathy are easily the best NYE hosts.

If you live in the NYC area, NY1 cable has a great ball drop broadcast, with almost no commentary and just the sights and sounds of the crowd and what they’re seeing. I’m usually out (last night I watched the Central Park fireworks at Belvedere Castle with about 200 other people) and I just record NY1.

Once again we watched CNN. And I totally loved the phone call from his mom . . . who talked with Kathy Griffin more than her own son. And it’s true that his mom had a big party for Kathy and didn’t even invite Anderson.
