Best poll of the nineties:

Duran Duran’s comeback, Boy George, Sting, Tina Turner, Blind Melon, Soul Asylum, UB40 and Mariah Carey.
Janet Jackson just made it in my voting by a hair but Ace of Base missed the cut.

“I Don’t Wanna Fight,” “Runaway Train,” “No Rain,” and “All that She Wants” win my vote.

The second tier of songs (all missing the cut) were “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You,” “I Have Nothing,” “That’s the Way Love Goes,” and “I Would Do Anything for Love.”

It’s pretty shocking that Meatloaf has no votes so far. “I Would Do Anything for Love” EASILY won Smapti’s 1993 poll of US #1 hits.

No Rain
Runaway Train
The Crying Game

The latter was an unexpected late hit for Boy George, and probably his best single as a solo act.

I was not a fan of No Rain at the time but it’s grown on me as years went by. It’s way above most of the entries for that year (1993 and 1994 were low points in pop music IMHO).

Runaway Train was and still is a great song.

I considered voting for Steam as I remember liking it at the time but on reflection, it’s clearly a bit below the three I picked. The same thing goes for Ordinary World.

I think it has tougher competition in this chart as opposed to the American charts where clearly it was among the strongest.
