…which made me weep when I read the hate for fig newtons. I love them. LOVE. I love figs in any form, really, but fig newtons are a delight and I must defend their honor.
What’s your favorite store-bought cookie?

What’s your favorite store-bought cookie?
I don’t know about back in the US these days, but over here just about the best cookies are sold at Subway sandwich shops. Really soft and good. These days we have a large variety of fancy cookie chains in our near-infinite number of shopping malls, but Subway’s cookies pretty much beat them all. Oatmeal, macadamia nut, M&M and double chocolate I think are the types. Maybe peanut butter too.
Top 4 at my house. The Newtons are my wife’s favorite choice but I like them too.
Pepperidge Farm Chessmen (a good quality butter cookie)
Keebler Vienna Fingers (we keep these in the freezer and thaw out a few to eat)
Keebler E.L. Fudge
Strawberry Newtons
Pepperidge Farm Dark Chocolate Enrobed Milanos
Nabisco Mallomars
Bahlsen Afrika
Walker’s shortbread cookies.
And I love fig newtons.
Peppermint Jo-Jo’s only available seasonally at Trader Joes.
Used to be Sunshine Lemon Coolers, but alas!
Nowadays, Pecan Sandies are my favorite.
Just about any Pepperidge Farm cookie, but Chesapeake or Sausalito are my favorites.
Fig Newtons for most of my life until Strawberry Newtons came out.
Mother’s Taffy cookies a strong second-place.
.
I just went through two boxes of Pirate peanut butter creme cookies in one week. Couldn’t stop eating the damned things!
Before that, I went through a bag of Oreos and another of an all-chocolate Oreo clone.
Before THAT, I went through two boxes each of Voorman’s soft oatmeal cookies with apple and date fillings, my favorites! Cherry and blueberry come in second.
I love the way Scottish shortbread just melts in my mouth.
I don’t like chocolate chip cookies if they’re dry and crumbly. Tfu!
Freihofer’s Chocolate Chip Cookies.
For national brands, it’s Pepperidge Farms Genevas, though Milanos are close.
I would never refuse an Archway molasses cookie, would you?
I never eat cookies these days, but if I did, I’d want some Nilla Wafers.
My top 3 are
Pepperidge Farm Milano (any flavor)
Archway Blueberry Filled
Nabisco Pinwheels
I am currently hoarding Limited Edition Girl Scout Mint Chocolate Cookies. Those things are awesome!
Aldi’s Grandessa Chocolate Chunk in the plastic clamshell (not Homestyle’s Chocolate Chip, not Benton’s Chewy Chocolate Chunk). Soft without that weird off taste of most soft storebought cookies, plenty of chocolate, but not overwhelmingly so. Just the closest thing to a perfect chocolate chunk cookie that didn’t come out of my oven.
Matt’s are the best store-bought chocolate chip cookie you can find.
Milanos are the best (I think my favorite variant are the rolled-up tube ones, but they’re all good). But the good old Oreo also deserves a shout-out-- None of the many other brands of sandwich cookie get it quite right.
Oreos. I can’t stop eating them if I open a package.
I’m not much of an Oreo eater but my kids claim the Walmart version is better. They ask for them specifically. Ditto the peanut butter patties.
