These.
Both “Back To Nature” and “Newman’s Own” make fine cookies, at least the varieties I’ve tried (chocolate chip, oreo clone, peanut butter).

It was the Nabisco Heyday cookie.
I like Fig Newtons too (but please don’t call them a cookie). What? No one else remembers that slogan? Oh, fine, then.
Part of what makes the SDMB great is its diversity and its strong streak of iconoclasm. The downside is that every thread of the form, “Best X” or “Worst X” devolves into “Just List X”. I bet if you looked up a worst movie thread, there would some wag posting Casablanca or Star Wars, and for best band in history, there’s going to be “New Kids on the Block”. In any case, Fig Newtons are still cheap and plentiful, so us pro-FN-ers can just shrug of the hate of the anti-FN cadre. It takes all kinds.
OK I’m back from my tangent. I vote: Ginger Snaps, in either traditional or animal-shaped form.
Pepperidge Farm Mint Milanos.
When I was a kid, nothing was better than Burry’s Fudge Town cookies. Burry’s went out of business long ago. The closest thing I’ve found that’s available today is the Dare Chocolate Creme. Their Maple Leaf Cremes are pretty darn good, too.
Also, about ten years ago Nabisco made a limited edition Oreo cookie with a coffee-flavored creme filling. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for my waistline), just when I got hooked on them they were discontinued. I’ve been watching and waiting patiently for their return.
I’d have to say
Oreo Double Stuf
Nutter Butters
both excellent for dipping in milk, since I don’t like cookies or cake dry.
Cookie, or wafer?
Girl Guide cookies! Well, they’re not store-bought, but neither are they homemade.
There used to be a cookie store in the mall of my hometown that sold a cherry chip sugar cookie that I would have punched a nun for. Home experiments have thus far come up unsatisfactory.
But prepackaged? I’d go with Milano’s, especially the mint variety. It’s faux-classy, has a nice taste and texture and is juust a hair beyond the amount of work I’m usually willing to put into making cookies.
Ditto. But the qualifier “chocolate chip” isn’t necessary, since chocolate chip cookies are the best kind of cookie anyway.
Three answers:
Lofthouse frosted sugar cookies, maybe once a year or so, will be the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
Oreos I could devour any day of the year. We don’t keep them in my house, because the notion of “keeping them” is a perverse fantasy.
Fig Newtons are my favorite to have as a side with a meal. They’re so chewy and dry that I eat them slowly and they seem more filling than more cookies.
Dark Chocolate almond sandies. They are one of those lovely surprises that show up on the shelves now and then. The first time I found them I had to come running in here to crow about it: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=579344&highlight=sandies
Cookie, but I am intrigued by the wafer idea, which I have not tried. (I didn’t mention Little Debbie Nutty Bars since they are not exactly cookies, but that’s my absolutely favorite cookie-type thingie.)
Actually, anything by Pepperidge Farm. You could just randomly choose one, and you won’t regret it.
Mother’s English Tea Cookies are my personal favorite, but MUST be dunked in milk for at least 30 seconds or so. Otherwise they are pretty terrible.
Oreos are likewise edible only when dipped in milk, although they don’t require quite as long, but my god are they good when you do! Dry? Blech!
If we are judging cookie by itself alone and not allowed to dunk it into milk, then I guess my favorite cookie would probably be macadamia nut. Not sure of any specific brand. Nestle maybe?
“Fig Newtons are fruit and cake.” (Alas, I want to like them, but I don’t.)
My faves are Mother’s Iced Animal Crackers. Unfortunately, in Thelma World, one serving size = one bag.
When I DO buy commercial cookies, it’s the Pepperidge Farms Chessmen, Yes! The Maple Leaf Cremes were an addiction for a while (Voorhees, bulk cookies by the pound) - I had to go cold turkey on those. Daddy Ray’s fig, apple, strawberry, or blueberry bars are good, and cost a buck at the Dollar Tree! But I still think home made cookies are superior to commercial.
When I was a kid, I used to take Chips ahoy cookies and dip them in the milk. The thing is, I’d leave the cookie dipped in milk while at the same time applying pressure to my thumb and forefinger.
As soon as I felt it give a little, I knew it was time to take the cookie out and plop the heavenly, milk saturated cookie into my mouth.
Good stuff, I don’t know why I stopped doing that.
(stop staring)
Oreos
Whatever that assortment of butter cookies you get at Christmas in the round blue tin is called - specifically the ones shaped like pretzels, they’re always the first to go
