Better Call Saul - Finale

Compare that with the way Jimmy works when he’s scamming - he picks his victims for their arrogance and uses their greed to drag them into the scheme. He’s not the type to rob a broke guy of his last $5 with the promise that he can turn it into rent money, he rips off the bastard wanting to steal a passed out guy’s watch or the brash rich jackass trying to scam a naive guy who just inherited money. These old people with bad memory asking him to write their wills and handle their money are a perfect target for scamming, but he doesn’t even think about ripping them off, and really cares about them (like remembering who gets the figurines). He has no problem violating professional ethics to get them in the door (bribed breakdown), but not only does he work to help them, he’s actively offended at the idea of someone like Sandpiper ripping them off.

In writing this, another black mark on Chuck is that HE KNOWS THIS. Sure he thinks Jimmy is a chimp with a machine gun, but the idea that Jimmy is scamming the old people he’s working with never even crosses chuck’s mind. Chuck is definitely the more ethical of the two, he’d never consider creating a pie tape to ‘exonerate’ Squat Cobbler guy, but he has no trouble using Jimmy’s good nature against him, and doesn’t seem to feel any moral outrage at things like Sandpiper (I read his reactions as being thrilled by the challenge of the case).

Speaking of Squat Cobbler - someone went there.

I’m going to call this NSFW although it’s kind of a gray area, so I’m putting the link in a spoiler box.

Even though Post #125 should be transcribed onto tablets of stone, enshrined for future generations, it’s irrelevant no matter what the International Assassins on J Street say. Chuck can use the tape against Jimmy, and Jimmy doesn’t know that his retirement might be a ruse. He just has to pretend that he is willing to take the fall. Chuck probably cares more about taking the McGill name from Jimmy that he does about reclaiming MV as a client.

When has Chuck ever expressed concern about taking the McGill name from Jimmy? I can’t recall him ever mentioning it as anything other than a side note, and his main objective is clearly to keep the person of Jimmy from practicing law, not to get Jimmy to change his name.

Well, I’m no DeNiro.

Besides, if I were an intern, the only place you’d see me posting would be in BCS threads, not nuts-and-bolts battling in Elections.

It’s a vast simplification, and Skyler, Chuck, and Kim are all much more than that. And it’s not exactly the same between the shows, since what Walt was doing was much more dangerous and illegal and Skyler had great reasons for wanting Walt to stop. But it’s true that both Walt and Jimmy are people who don’t follow the rules, and we the viewers like to see them pulling fast ones, and both Skyler and Chuck are people who don’t want them to be breaking the rules, and that’s part of the reason that people don’t like Skyler and Chuck. Buzzkill is probably a wrong word for it, a voice of reason might be a better description. It’s a difficult role to be in, because the voice of reason can’t win because then the show would be over.

Obviously they told you to hold various arguments on issues for plausible deniability, if you only posted in this thread it would be too obvious you were on the show. No, your other postings clearly just confirm our theory that you’re the intern.

I didn’t really feel it was out of character for Jimmy at first, it seemed to fit how much he cares for his brother. But the more I think about it, the more I think Jimmy knew Chuck had a recorder rigged up (whether he did it himself or had someone do it). His answers were just perfect - he ‘admitted’ to exactly what Chuck had as a theory while bringing up points that make it clear that he is saying this to make Chuck feel better. It also has a lot of the feel of the bit in S1 with the injury kids where he was asking them how much money would make them feel OK, like he’s laying out the line before jerking in the fish.

The most conclusive piece of evidence for me is the line “I would have made Nixon proud” Nixon isn’t known for forgery, if there was a forgery scandal around him it’s obscure trivia I’ve never heard of. But the defining event of Nixon’s presidency was Watergate… which was about a recorded conversation. I can’t really see that line as anything other than Jimmy indicating that he knows what’s going on without saying so now.

They were taken from his home by a person who Chuck gave a key and authorized to be in his home and who is routinely in Chuck’s home when Chuck is asleep or incapacitated. I don’t think document handling is going to come up on the show, but it is a huge screw-up by Chuck. Also, we should view 125 again.

Since we know he doesn’t stop him from practicing law, I’m making the obvious assumption that it’s the next best thing.

Chuck doesn’t know about Breaking Bad, and again has never expressed any particular concern over the name. I don’t think that getting Jimmy to change his name is something he’s going to push for, or something that he will accept in a deal, and I don’t think it’s an ‘obvious assumption’ that he would make something he’s never shown any interest in a major objective.

She played pretty much the same exact character on Franklin and Bash, straight laced no nonsense lawyer to their wacky antics lawyers. She was even sleeping with one of them.

Quickie marriage and spousal privilege?

It may make sense for them to complete the “Saul Goodman” name transition this upcoming season so that is out of the way and the show now focuses on how SG makes his name in the underworld. I would hate “when will he change his name” be an endless, multi-season discussion. :stuck_out_tongue:

Eh, then it’ll just be replaced by endless discussion of: “When will he meet WW and kick off the events of BB? When will he become Gene?”

I have a couple of questions about the show.

  1. Did they ever allude to anything with Chuck’s wife? She was there for a flashback episode and it was evidently showing that Chuck had been biased against Jimmy for quite some time. Then she was gone. Did she leave Chuck? Is he a widow? I must have missed that part.

  2. In the hospital they told Chuck he needed a Cat Scan but then a few scenes later it appeared to me that Chuck was entering a MRI and the staff even mentioned that “you’ll hear some loud noises” and so on. While this is true for MRIs (I’ve got plenty of experience) I don’t think this is true of Cat Scans but then again, I don’t really know. Anybody know?

  3. I felt bad for the cartel driver. If Mike is looking to exact revenge on the old man because the cartel killed the innocent Samaritan after Mike’s robbery…isn’t Mike just as guilty for inadvertently putting the innocent driver in a shallow grave?

What a great show!

No, there has been no further explanation as to what happened to her, as yet.

I’ve been through a CT scan; the machinery looked similar to what was shown in the show and I was warned about noises, although it wasn’t particularly loud.

The difference (to Mike, in my view) is that the cartel driver willingly got involved with these guys, and probably had a few skeletons in his own closet. In any event, I didn’t read this as Mike getting revenge for the good samaritan, just Mike getting rid of someone who’s a threat to him (and his granddaughter).

Indeed.

Well said, and I completely agree.

Also, early on, all Jimmy wanted was his big brother’s approval, and he might not have strayed so far from the straight-and-narrow if Chuck had made an effort to inspire him, to praise him when he tried hard to do things right - as when he proudly told Chuck about getting his mail order law degree. Even Howard was impressed with Jimmy Hustle, but Chuck barely choked out ‘congratulations.’

Another thing, Jimmy’s humor makes him much more likeable than Chuck, who has no sense of humor, no sense or fun. It was painful to watch him trying to make his wife laugh.

Everyone thinks Jimmy is bad, but he’s a compassionate man, good at heart. Which makes it all the sadder knowing that he eventually surrenders to his own worst instincts. Whatever will happen to take him from protecting the rights of the elderly, to defending the criminal underworld?

If we may revisit the documents once more…Chuck was in possession of the documents, Chuck was responsible for their safekeeping. If the documents are compromised, Chuck is on the hook.

In my work I occasionally transport classified documents. If my brother carjacked me and altered the documents, the reservation at the Hotel Shit would be in my name, not his.

Now, which post am I supposed to read?
mmm

I agree with people above, this is a great show. I also love the discussion here, I’ve poked around on reddit some and it’s just too dumb overall. There’s a running theory that Jimmy gets disbarred, then changes his name to Saul Goodman to escape it (doesn’t work that way), and a ton of people pointing out the plot hole that the driver saw Mike’s car and so would be able to point him out (he used a completely different car).

What if your brother had a set of keys to your car, routinely drove your car with classified documents in it, and was driving your car while you were passed out in the back seat when he took them?

Because magnets, bitches!

I am responsible for the documents.

mmm
