Better than a snowball's chance? (NC Dopers)

I might try to make the May gathering if it takes place. Falcon, if you’d be interested in driving down together, let me know when the time gets a bit closer!

Thanks for all the input, guys! I didn’t really think about the under 21 thing (sorry!) I don’t know the place (Southend Brewery) but we have a brew pub here in town and since it is a restaurant also (as is the Southend) they don’t card people unless they specifically order beer. I was just thinking that they would be along the same lines.

Alrighty, who else has an option for the meeting location? Is there some place in Charlotte that is (1)Relatively easy to locate (2)Not as crowded and loud (3)That caters to all ages (4)That (preferably) takes reservations on the weekends?

::mentally adding aenea to my list::

That makes us a party of nine, give or take.
Anyone besides me (And Satan and Drain) bringing an SO? Or even a friend? Or a hired escort?

Just wanted to throw in and say that a May meeting in Raleigh would be better for me too. I like the idea that VA Dopers could come down and hang out.

To those going to Charlotte, have a great time ! Erin Go braugh !

We don’t get out as much as we used to, so we had to ask around for some suggestions from our “social animal” type friends.

The ideas we got were Halley’s or Pewter Rose. Both very nice places. Both have spaces that would accommodate small-medium sized groups in a little bit of privacy. Halley’s is a bar that serves food. Pewter Rose is a resturant with a liquor license. Halley’s leans toward pub food (though not cheap pub food), Pewter Rose toward cuisine. Either would be a good place to meet and talk for extended periods of time. We can find phone numbers and forward them to you, Evilbeth.
On the under age in bars issue, unless it’s a private club, all bars have to serve food. As long as someone underage doesn’t order alcohol there shouldn’t be a problem about being seated.

OK, so we have a lead on a “where” and an idea about the “when”.
I need details people, details!

So what’s the dilly, yo?

I sold my soul to Satan for a dollar. I got it in the mail.

Sorry, I’m back! I usually only post from work and I am off on Thursdays and Fridays (& internet was down last night!)

OK!! Halley’s doesn’t sound bad. Can we get a number so I can call them? (Actually, can we get a number for the Pewter Rose also since it might be less crowded on a “holiday” weekend?) Is this place easy to access for people (such as myself) who have little to no working knowledge of the Charlotte area?

I still need to e-mail GirlBySea and TNHippie to see if they might want to join us. (I’ll do that tonight.)

In case you haven’t deduced it–I am the world’s least decisive person! But here goes: We will settle on a definitive date of…March 18th, Saturday.

Barring unforeseen weather or vehicle difficulties, I and my SO will be in attendance at one of the aforementioned locations. I’m voting for an approximate time of 5-5:30pm.

There. Those are my proclamations. Hopefully, I will stand by them!!

Bumping up so people will respond…

Here is the website for the Pewter Rose. (kinda pricey)

now that you are with us again EB, what do you think about this question?

I think that’s a fine idea. It’s a little farther for me but I have no life so it’s not like the longer trip would interfere with anything. I’ll spend this weekend gathering all the info and hopefully by Monday night, I should have a detailed plan hammered out.

(I don’t usually post on Thursday nights and Friday nights but I will check back this week.)

OK, this is a serious call out to some people who are remotely familiar with the layout of Charlotte. I can (and have) spend much time on various dining web sites that tell me what restaurants are in Charlotte but I don’t know which areas are very traffic congested, difficult to get to or just “bad parts of town.” HELP!!!

If you could give me a general idea of what streets are in appealing (easy to locate, navigate, and live through) I will choose a couple restaurants, call them and get reservation info and set this thing in stone!!! I’ve got a website with customer reviews, maps, pricing, reservation info, you name it. All I need to know is where exactly should I be looking for a place?

South Boulevard and Tryon Street are very convenient to I-77 and are chockablock with restaurants.

No “bad areas” to speak of, at least where interstate access and restaurant rows are concerned.

bump

Aenea, would your name bear any relation to a certain Latin and a story about the founding of Rome?

I sold my soul to Satan for a dollar. I got it in the mail.

Surgo,

I think that was Aeneas. This name I use is from the Endymion series by Dan Simmons. I was reading it (the series) while in working on classes in college about 4 years ago and needed a screen name. Have used it in many places since, it’s easier that having 15 usernames.

Bumping to the top–should have definitive plans in a couple of days. I’ve got some people doing some research on the location.

evilbeth, I’m sorry I missed all your bumps over the last couuple of weeks. I swear, I’ve been trying to watch for them.
The number for Halley’s (if you still need/want it) is 704-525-2555.
I try to keep a better eye out for this thread, if I can help (even if I can’t make it the weekend of March 18th)(durn it.)

I’m sorry I’ll miss youse guys in Charlotte the 18th. :frowning: But I’ll drink some green beer while I’m in Savannah to the NC Dopers.

Regarding directions in Charlotte- BEWARE OF TYVOLA ROAD!! It changes names like six times without a single turn!

Give me all of the gorey details and the aftermath on the 19th!

I think I’m going to postpone my Germany trip till this summer, so I’m thinking I’ll probably be able to make this get together in March after all.
