That’s cool.
Can you guys identify the symbol on the asian nerd’s red shirt at end of the show? Fairly obscure.

I interpreted the spherical chicken joke like this: A farmer had a real world problem, and needed a real-world solution. And that’s what he would have gotten had he consulted an applied physicist, or an engineer, or a vet, or almost anyone other than a theoretical physicist. However, a theoretical physicist was who he asked, and an abstract solution was what he got. Intellectually compelling, and probably revealing of a greater truth, but of no practical application in the immediate context of the question.

Exactly. I don’t get why people don’t get this joke - it’s a bit of self-deprecation that a theoretical physicist would say about himself and his profession. Write it so if the attractive fem-norm doesn’t get it, it’s not because they’re nerds - it’s because she’s dumb.
Personally, I think they should borrow more from Frasier. Yes, they’re nerds, we get it. But they should also be witty on occasion, sarcastic, and sophisticated within their social sphere. I want to see a nerd who did a hitch in the army to pay his way through school, or one whose hobby is following a sports team, or who’s the best hitter on his weekend softball team, or who successfully applies physcology to picking up women in clubs, or something that isn’t relentlessly stereotypically geekazoid.
Thought maybe they have and I just haven’t watched it enough.
And please mute the fucking laugh track.

It looked familiar, but I can’t place it.
I know what it is, if someone doesn’t post the answer I’ll post it.

Aha! With a little research and a hunch or two, my curiosity is finally satisfied.
The Greatest American Hero!
My Google-Fu is strong. I knew it looked familiar.

Geeks like that don’t exist in real life! ![]()
I kid of course, but you have to admit that geeks are rare enough that it’s possible they wouldn’t show up among the space that Leonard, Sheldon and the rest occupy. You also see a bit of the geek hierarchy in that Leonard is obviously the leader and more in control of his geekness than the rest.
And wasn’t it implied in the episode with Sara Gilbert that Leonard has a little more “experience” with women than the stereotypical geek?

I had to Google it too, and it wasn’t easy. I kept wanting to say Green Lantern, but I knew it wasn’t that.
This is an amazing show! But I don’t know how it gets good ratings. I didn’t think my demographic was particularly large
This was a great episode too, I was laughing out loud almost continuously. I can’t comment on the laugh track because like subtitles, it’s something I just process subconsciously without really noticing it.
I’m not sure whether to be proud or ashamed of the fact that I got the chicken joke, knew what super solids were, and shouted out at the end “hey! that’s a Greatest American Hero tshirt!”.
One of their weaker episodes, really. But I still love these guys.

Available in small through XL. (Or if you’re insane…)
I am so glad the strike is over. That was so much better than Welcome To The Captain!
I laughed several times.

Also, in the first episode, Sheldon tells him “I don’t know what your chances with Penny are in the real world, but compared to our circle, you’re a regular Mack Daddy.”
