Big, Hug3e, Enormous, Gigantic Brag On My Nicky Boy !!

Nick is my Gordon Setter puppy, exactly 6 months and 5 days old, AKA Stonmist Nick of Tine , AKA Snicky.

My Baby Boy did REALLY well for himself today ! I had him entered at the Gateway Sporting Dog Specialty in Belleville IL, in the 6-9 Puppy class. There were 2 other puppies in the 9-12 class , and 2 adult , pointed bitches.

Nick was being handled in the puppy class by a friend who also has Gordons, whom he had never met before , and he went out in that ring and showed like a little trooper. Being the only 6-9 , he won his class , and went in for winner’s dog against the winner of the 9-12 class … and he won , taking his first point !

But was Nick done there ? Not by a long shot ! He went back in for best off winners/best of breed against the winning bitch… and he WON !! My little 6 month old boy went Best Of Breed ! I have been showing dogs for 23 years and this is my first time having that coveted purple and gold rosette !!!

When we had his picture taken, the judge was full of questions , what his breeding was , where he was from , and said he had one of the best front assemblies he has ever seen !

Obviously , he didn’t do anything in group , but I was so , so , so proud of him , even being tired , he still showed like a dream. Everyone was buzzing about the 6 month old puppy out there in the group ring with the big guys… he looked so TINY out there , but he still showed like a little professional.

I could not be happier with this little guy. He is the answer to every prayer I ever had for a Gordon.

Yay for Nick! Have you a photo of him to show us?

Congratulations. Does Nick now have his first major?

I’m very surprised a judge put up a 6 month baby for points, much less BoB. Probably no more than you are, though.

It was not a major , it was just a 1 point show , but I am still thrilled to death !!

I will post the show picture here as soon as I get it back , but until then , here is a pic I took a couple weeks ago when I trimmed him.

Head shot

And yes, I was VERY surprised at him putting up a 6 month old baby for BoB !!!

Congratulations! How exciting! We love to watch dog shows on TV, and I always love to see the young pups competing against the older, more experienced show dogs. It sounds like he’s got some more ribbons coming for his momma!

Congrats! He’s a beautiful boy; makes me want a Gordon.

If only I could have all the dogs I want…I’d need a much bigger place, and much more time, and so much more money for dog food.

Oh , Stretch… you cannot go wrong with a Gordon. They have not been over bred, and can still do the job they were bred for. They are silly and goofy and snuggly and perfectly wonderful.

Maybe I am a bit biased…

Nah… I have have them for 23 years , and I will have Gordies till I die.
