For fuck’s sake, dude, it was a joke. Here I hadn’t seen New Iskander and Stephe96 for some time here in the pit, and then BOOM! Right after Updike’s banning, here they come, trotting out like slugs after a rainshower the minute Shodan posts a thread laden with waaaay too much vitriol for such an incredibly minor offense.
Please recalibrate your humor radar, ‘kay? I know it wasn’t brilliant wit or nuthin’, but I can’t believe you seriously thought I meant it. Give a girl some credit.
To Stephe96 I have nothing to say. I leave him to revel in the glorious mud of his well-known Kennedy obsession.
‘Uppity’ has the specific connotation of not knowing and abiding by one’s (subordinate) station in life. Which is why it used to be applied to blacks and women; it could only apply to those who by virtue of their defining characteristics weren’t supposed to speak out and object to the way things were done.
IMNSHO, your first clause, “Uppity bitch can be applied to anyone who acts like one” is vacuously true when applied to adults. I suppose kids can technically be uppity, but I’ve never heard the term used that way. But no adult can act uppity, period.
so your second clause, “as she seems to do,” is wrong.
You’re right - he could be too young to remember when women were supposed to stay in the kitchen, and blacks were supposed to know their place, and ignorant of how ‘uppity’ referred to blacks and women who didn’t abide by that one-sided social contract.
But this board’s all about fighting ignorance, so hopefully we’ve taken care of that now.
Well, I for one am so pleased to see the return, among the Right-leaning snivelers here, of a rush to judgment! For years, all we have heard from them is “now, now, let’s wait until the facts are all in (and until interest in the story dies down).” Why, is it a coincidence that it happens to occur when the focus is on an incident involving a Democrat (however pathetically trivial it may be)? No, I say! Otherwise, such sniveling whining pathetic hypocrisy over such an insignificant event would be worthy of labeling the lot of them cunts! That cannot be.
While I’m here, I’m glad to see John “I am not a Republican” Mace here to jump on the topic. I haven’t checked the Tom Delay GD thread yet. I hope I will go there next to see how you have amended your original position that that was nothing more than a partisan political attack. Glad you are a paragon of unbiased nonpartisan thought!
What’s the big yank? A member of Congress does something stupid. She made a fool of herself. But who did she affect? Mostly herself. And some poor guard who was just trying to do his job. But this had zilch impact to anyone else on the planet.
Let’s compare this to Delay. His corruption taints the entire political process. What goes on in Congress affects all of us, and this very rotten apple has had a profound impact on legislation over the past several years. Not to excuse McKinney for her stupidity, but her indiscretions pale in comparison to Delay. If the right wants us to think that any misdeed by any Democrat, no matter how trivial, should make us forget the very significant corruption by Republicans, then I think they’re misguided.
But let’s recognize that her overall behavior (including paranoid conspiracy-mongering and race-baiting) does have negative impact beyond herself and whatever unfortunate civil servants get in her way.
You’ve never heard of it, therefore it can’t be true. This fallacy falls under “argument from ignorance.”
Personally, I know plenty of people who use “uppity” to mean “acting better than the rest of us”, much more so than those who use it to mean “acting above one’s station.” Insisting on your own narrow definition of a word in order to cast someone else as a racist is a pretty cheap trick.
Assault and/or battery are criminal offenses, as well as obstructing an officer in the line of duty, in case anyone forgot. Criminal offenses are offenses against all of us, or so the thinking does, and more so when they are committed by those who make the laws.
Please, let’s not… let’s stop doing this and never do it again. Let’s call each respective transgression a reprehensible act, completely independent of each other, and agree that the law applies equally to everyone. No ifs, ands, or "but Clinton"s.
Like hell it wouldn’t. The Usual Suspects have essentially no response to wrong-doing by any Democrat besides tu quoque.
Then, in this case, it is an accurate and appropriate use of the term. McKinney does not know nor abide by her station in life. She has to abide by the security rules same as everyone else. She either does not realize this, or does realize it and does not care.
Plus, of course she deserves to be in a subordinate station. She’s stupid and corrupt.
By all means. McKinney is an ugly, stupid, corrupt, anti-Semitic, racist, arrogant bitch. I have not seen evidence that she is a ghetto slut.
Well, apart from the fact that this is, what, the sixth time she has ignored security rules, and that she has been convicted of the campaign fraud and admitted wrong-doing in the misuse of taxpayer money to fly Isaac Hayes around, the “rush to judgement” stuff is pretty accurate.
“Accurate” in the sense of being down to your usual level of dishonest stupidity.
Please, let’s stop pretending that this incident was brought up independently of the Tom Delay matter. This is a classic fucking Republican tactic of distraction through tu quoque.
Otherwise, if this is merely an independent discussion of a possible criminal act brought up only because it is important to discuss all criminal behavior, I eagerly await Shodan’s thread on the Bush administration official recently arrested for soliciting sex with a 14 year old.
Oh come on. She didn’t have a prayer of hurting him. She didn’t compromise security since she was merely going to a place that she had every right to be. Stupid yes. Harmful to the republic, no.
Actually, if you were capable of reading the thread, you would have seen that this is a classic fucking liberal tactic of distraction thru tu quoque, started by askeptic and clung to with increasing desperation by the Usual Suspects, including dishonest fat heads like yourself.
Yeah, you did. And effectively, you went even further. Let’s examine, shall we?
That’s your first post. You might remember it because it’s been commented upon several times. Once, even by yer-own-damn-self. You interpreted that plain naked remarky thusly:
If the story is insignificant, then presumably you believe McKinney’s transgressions are also. It follows then, that insignificant transgressions don’t even require forgiveness - because they’re insignficant.
askeptic started this thread? Damn, I wish I was capable of reading it. I’ll have to leave it to the braintrust of Shodan, Stephe96et al. to help me understand it.
Don’t be an ass. If I get a speeding ticket, that’s insignificant too. That’s not the same as saying I shouldn’t have to pay the ticket. A Comgresswoman poked a security guard with a cell phone. Whoop-de-doo.
It never ceases to amuse and amaze me when I see allegedly intelligent adults engage in high-school level sniping about “their” party, and the members thereof. See, “your” party, no matter which one it is, IS CORRUPT. Why? Because the party, no matter which one it is, is chock-a-block with POLITICIANS. Power hungry men and women with egos the size of apartment buildings squabbling and pissing over YOUR money. You can find equal amounts of corruption and graft and thievery on BOTH sides of the aisle, the trick, at least for them, is to keep US busy arguing about the little, petty, meaningless bullshit like this, so we don’t see what the fuck they’re ACTUALLY UP TO.
We make mountains from molehills to point out the flaws in one anothers party, meanwhile, we’re being ass-raped at the gas pumps, taxed out of our futures, robbed of our freedoms and all because these assholes are busy being themselves.
Would this excuse also apply to the dimwit airline passenger who bypasses a security checkpoint? After all, he could say he has “every right” to be out at his departure gate, even if part of the terminal has to be shut down to confirm that he’s harmless?
For those convinced (with good reason) that this thread is mostly a “you guys do it too” distraction from DeLay, the best response is a simple one on the order of “Yeah, she’s a real piece of work” - or ignoring it altogether. There are roughly three DeLay threads going on now, here and in GD (which is about right) and one McKinney thread - not a bad ratio.
If you’re emulating Shodan, you need to start such a thread yourself. Unfortunately a couple other people beat you to it.
You, like BobLibDem, are focusing on only the single most recent incident - inappropriately in my view. After all, the OP makes it quite explicit that the pattern of behavior is a large part of his complaint. And that’s what makes this particular incident significant; that it is part of a larger pattern. Just like with your speeding ticket, I agree one isolated instance is probably insignificant. But collect five of 'em in a dozen years, both the BMV and your insurance company are gonna have something to say about it.
Further, the fact that the Capitol Police are considering leveling charges makes it a significant event, too. That happens to a member of Congress only very infrequently. So, it is also a significant story in the respect that something like that happening is so unusual. And in this aspect, it matters not at all which member of Congress is involved. Could be any one of 'em and it would still be significant.
Could a Mod please fix this. Its post #134. dbuzman repeatedly attributes Ashtar’s stupid phrase “Uppity Bitch” to me. I never used it, I never would use, it pisses me off that people have already started reffering to that phraze as mine. dbuzmans correction later is not enough.
