Birthdays and Memories, A Bittersweet MMP

Am I nuts? (don’t answer that)–I dont’ see the ginger syrup in that recipe. Ima make 'em anyways-they sound yummy.

Off to work. Glorious day out-70, sunny and low humidity. Ain’t that just the way?

The syrup’s just poured over the top, you put in as much ginger as you want depending on how strong you like it.

And I’m saying nuffin’ about whether you’re nuts or not.

So both Emma Thompson and Helena Bonham Carter are in this mnovie? That must have been a very tense wrap party.

Went to my first civic league meeting last night. My neighbors are no tax wingnuts. I think I’m going to run for office in the next elections so that I can show them how to stick to an agenda.

Wise woman.
What are the reviews for HP5 over there, BooFae? Enquiring American minds want to know (and checked the Guardian and they didn’t HAVE a review of it-huh?)

Off to work, really, this time.

You won’t find anything in the Grauniad until later this week, rigs, the film’s not on general release until Friday. I think there are some advance screenings tomorrow (possibly even today but I haven’t been able to track down a cinema round here that’s confessing to it) so you’ll have to be patient for that one!

Whew - dusting and vacuuming done. Dishes done. Tidying mostly done. The intrepid travelers did get on the plane - just barely. And they mocked me when I suggested they consider backup plans for flying standby. sheesh - kids…

But they’re on their way, so I’m off to the airport in a few minutes. <flinging confetti with wild and reckless abandon>

Laterz, doodz!!

Mayberry got rain last night. Finally.

It’s been so dry that the river is salty, and fishermen are catching croaker and flounder 20 miles upstream from the Albemarle sound.

I’m done with the latest installment of Musical Cubicles. I HATE MOVING!

Caffeinating late. Still haven’t found the box containing pronouns.

OK, I miss a few MMP posts and am just now discovering swampus is working at a BREWERY?? Why am I not surprised. :stuck_out_tongue: I toured the Anheiser Busch brewery in St. Louis one time in Hot July, and they gave us TWO beers at the end, instead of just one because it was so hot and all. ::smacks lips::

Haze, I wish I knew the name of the restaurant where My Sister the Chef works. I’d send you there! It’s a breakfast and lunch place is all I know. I’ll find out and let you know.

Thanks for the compliments on my little brat pack. I was suprised at how well my recent photos have been coming out. I broke down and bought one of those digital picture frames (two actually! we had a coupon and they were ~$40 each instead of $80 or $90) and I’ve been going mad trying to get suitably gorgeous photos to load into it for my desk.

I haven’t had a chance to welcome McUne, although I did have a look in your I Dragged Her In Here thread that loooie started. Glad to have you! I’m a 40~something writer and mom who lives in Kentucky and works in public television.

You know, we’re all throwing around lobster and crab legs, but this week I have actually eaten both! My mother took my sisters and I out to lunch Monday at Red Mobster (isn’t that what Mr. Bus Guy calls it??) and we all got the Enormous Trough Platter. Lobster tail and crab legs at 11:45 am! We totally pigged out.

:: wipes risidual butter from lips ::

Happy Wednesday, all!

OK, I’m up. Further bulletins as details warrant.

Mindfield, we have that EXACT same ice Cream truck in my neighborhood. A little dab of C4, a cell phone and all you have to do is wait for it to leave the neighborhood - to minimize civilian casualties.

I treated myself today to breakfast. I was on the way in here (on my 1.4 mile commute) and said, “hey. breakfast would go down good”. So I went to the local Mom & Pop and had some eggs/bacon/toast.

Nummy.

Now, to work.

One of my greatest non-sexual fantasies has always involved an ice cream truck and a bazooka.

VWife just called. She was walking Freya, heard a strange noise, and found a nest of birds in the clean-out access of our chimney. Hopefully, they’re swifts and not starlings. I’ll wait until the little buggers leave to clean out the nest and cap the chimney.

I have toured not one, but TWO brueris! hic Oops, sorry, that’s what happens to your spelling after touring the Cuahutémoc brewery in Monterrey, México. They make pretty much any Mexican beer brand you may think of except Corona. If you ask for a Coronita in a Monterrey bar the waiter gets a look like a very polite wooden image and a very bad case of The Deaf. Coronita is That Which Shall Not Be Served. Loved their Cerveza de Navidad…

The other one was many years before in Ireland. We weren’t allowed to drink, that’s what you get for going in a group directed by two nuns. We weren’t allowed to buy cigs at the cigarrete factory either. We did go to a pub one saturday afternoon and get lager for all (“black beer” as we call it was about impossible to find in Spain so we were curious about it), and only later find out that we weren’t “legal” - Spain didn’t have a minimum drinking age, back then.

Oh, Mc1: those weird letters in the corner indicate I’m from Spain and currently living at the spot where France, Switzerland and Germany meet. I’ve also lived in the US and (sort of) in Costa Rica. And I like doing lots of things that apparently girls don’t do, like be a Chemical Engineer and play computer games (dwarves with guns for the win! - ehrm sorry, WoW attack).

How can a fantasy involving an ice cream truck and a bazooka NOT be sexual? :dubious:

Ooohhh, your sister works at a restaurant in Chicago? Do let me know!

Just arrived at work. Trying to wake up, with questionable success.

Oh, rosie, I’m sorry. Insomnia sucks.
I have today off. I am told my prime duty today is to bake a cake for Driving Husband, because he’s starving for cake. And Lazy Husband. They’ll be here for dinner. I’ve got to figure out what to make for dinner. I’m going to do a plain sponge and provide strawberries and whipped cream. I love plain sponge cake. It’s easy and yummy.

Could all of you start thinking positive thoughts toward Mr. Lissar? He’s going for his driving road test next Friday, and he needs to pass so we can go on car trips. In my parents’ car. They’re thrilled. Well, actually, Mom is terrified. She offered the car. Not my fault.

Just a quick drive-by - I finally have stuff to do! Yay! Health and happiness and crab and cake for all!

Can’t you convert him into Baking Husband instead?

Good luck to Mr Lissar - road driving tests are great! I passed my car test on the second try, but passed my bike test many years before on the first try. Never quite worked that one out.

On that note, I’m off to our team meeting. Envy me.

I sympathize. Oh dear Og, do I sympathize.

It seems to be getting worse as I get older. Now, granted, I don’t have a lot of trouble with it, just once in a while, especially in the summer.
But I HATE it. Lying awake, staring at the ceiling, trying to occupy yourself with thoughts, wondering if you should just suck it up and get up and do something…and then being so tired the next day.

The bugs keep on coming out of the woodwork here… the customer just stumbled on a bug which, as far as I can tell, I must have introduced into the code at least 2 months ago… Shows how much they’re using the features (and how good our QA is at catching my mistakes  )
You may all envy me, too.

Good luck to Mr. Lissar!
[bragging mode]Aeons ago, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and I was in the US for 2 years as an adolescent, I decided it would be a Good Idea to take Drivers’ Ed and my Driving Test while at my parents’ place for Christmas Vacation from College. Which gave me 18 days. I had never sat behind the wheel of a car before.

Got my license, 15 days after first sitting behind the wheel, first try
[/bragging mode]

We have this annoying, three-test system in Ontario, which means this is the second of the three tests to his full license. It hasn’t notably improved the driving around here. Anyway, it will be seriously annoying if he has to retest, since we’ve got three road trips scheduled.

I forgot to brag- I have the advance reading copy of the new Robin McKinley novel, Dragonhaven, that’s coming out in September. Mine! Mine! All mine!

I seriously love you (in a purely hetero, you’re-awesome kind of way) because I was thinking the same thing.

For those wondering, a quick Harry Potter review:
Not awful, but I was pretty disappointed. Nothing wrong with the acting or the effects, or even the script–I think it all went to hell in editing. You know how Goblet of Fire was so fast-paced you were surprised it was over because it was nothing but information thrown at you for two hours? It was like that, only slightly less enjoyable. I really think they should have broken it up into two movies and really give it the attention it deserved. I feel like there were huge chunks of the film missing–people were suddenly in the room when they weren’t a second ago. Why? Because they have to be there for the big finale, but the scene where they came in was probably cut. Lupin had maybe two lines, the Weasley twins’ mayhem and subsequent exit was nowhere near what it should have been, and I didn’t even have time to miss Hagrid before he was back. Easily my least favorite of all the films so far. I might have to read the book today just to remind myself what it should have been.

For Og’s sake, there wasn’t even enough from Ron, of all people. (End bitching now.)
And now, since I got home from the movie theater at three a.m., I’m going back to bed.
