Black Friday and other crazy consumerism in the MMP

metal mouse, is gas considerably cheaper here in Tennessee than it is in northern Alibammy? Or are you on a braunschweiger run? :stuck_out_tongue:

I got almost everything wrapped up at irk today, swung through to pick up a couple of grocery items that I won’t have time to shop for on the way north, stopped at the ATM for some folding cash and am now home, supped and fixing to get things packed for teh trip tomorrow. I may swing through the dog park on the way out so’s Nelson can get some off leash time before being coopped up in the car all day.

I did something to my back so I am crippled a little. I could have sworn I posted today but I guess not.

We had burgers for supper and acquired the last bit of our things we need for cooking up a feast on Thursday. I am ready for some good cooking.

All you traveling be safe.

No, but I’m heading up to my brother’s in St. Louie tomorrow (about an 8-hour trip, so sorry I can’t stop to chat). And wonder of wonders, I found a store about 25 miles away who still carries the Oscar Meyer brand, so long-distance runs are no longer required.

Ate a bowl of Mac-N-Alfredo (nuked both a Mac-n-Cheese and a Fettuchini Alfredo and threw them into the same bowl…not too bad) and now have the dishwasher doing it’s thing. Still need to pack, but for a 4-day trip that won’t take too long.

All y’all have a good holiday and safe travels if you’re travellin’

For the record, if you usually sleep on a king bed, you will not be as comfy in a double. It’s gonna be a long night.

OK – our bosses were under some stress today; they did not handle it well. We should have been at 9pm. They were still at it micromanaging things to death when I clocked out at 11. I made the right call remaining a peasant this year.

I have neither, but I am certain I’d rather have hummingbirds than in-laws.

Skool course meeting today, which is scheduled over a class which I’d really rather not miss- going through the assignment to check we’re all off in the right direction. Hopefully the meeting won’t waffle on too long, and I’ll at least catch the end of the class.

It looks like I finally have a, irk placement for next February, at a proper science research lab  I was worried I’d end up just at a local garden centre, which is OK and all, but not something you need a degree to work at and not really what I’d be aiming for.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 64 and N.O.S. for the day. Didn’t get back to post yestiddy as I got bzzy what with laundry (even ahrned!), dentist, a run to the Pubic Sto’ for some provisions and stuff. Today I shall make up the cornbread dressin’ for bakeage tomorrow, prep Mr. Tom for bakeage tomorrow, get the giblets boiled for the gravy, (as we all know, if the gravy ain’t right might as well just throw everything else out) and make a cheese ring. The cheese ring shall be an appetizer. It is good but a PITA (at least for me) to make. Plus I got into panic mode for a little bit yestiddy cause I couldn’t find the mould. Twelve people are showin’ up to feast tomorrow. Sides and other munchies shall show up as folks arrive. We shall sup upon boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

All you who are travelin’ stay safe out there. 'Tis crazy travel day today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, feast prep shall commence.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Morning all. Packed and ready to go, need to drop off gas bnill before I leave, but planning on an 0700 departure which should get me to brothers’ house about 3-4pm, depending on traffic and how hard I push.

Nut, good news on the impending job.

ruble, bosses gotta boss…

Plans for this weekend include:
on Friday, going to the bank to see if I can get them to update the spelling of my name (it’s got to be at “my” office, this being one of the few banks which still insist in linking accounts to specific offices),
then lunch in one of the places across the street from Sagrada Familia,
then going to the dentist,
and on Saturday I’m having dinner out with friends, so I’m hoping the dentist will not do anything terribly nasty, but the menu is Italian so it should be ok.

Vent time.

This current crew ---------- they have potential but ----------

Almost all are brand new (within the month) to the building and Da Jungle. And I think the oldest is about 14 years old. And the more senior in age and presence (2 of them) still haven’t been through a Peak with us. All this is new to them and they know it BUT THEY WON’T TALK TO OR ASK ANY OF US VETS! This is my 5th time at the plate here and I have a damn good batting average. At least ask me for what I know about the pitcher. Make up your own mind and take your own swings but ASK!

Like I have said before, in many ways I am a terrible Lutheran – I love change. Please take my wheel and make it your own. Trick it out and make it better. But don’t reinvent the wheel ------- especially don’t start from a square block at the starting line of the Big Race at Daytona. You do that and you are going to crash and burn and take other people out with you.

:smack:

Sunday to Tuesday I am doing doubles. Pray for me. Seriously. God knows before this is all over I’m going to need it. Only my sense of humor and the will of God can help.
(Our Tiny Boss in the department I was assigned to last night had a meltdown and walked away. I mean literally walked off and vanished somewhere. All my coworkers are looking at me like WTF so I said with this wide-assed grin “Welcome to Siberian Box Mines local #419 — you know what needs done so do it. The more we do that the sooner we get to go home.” Everyone had a chuckle and got back to work. I ended up basically running the department for a half hour until a Medium-Sized Boss could come back and take what passed for control. As they say in the vernacular – I’m getting two old for this shit.)

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Hockey tonight. There was frost on the cars this morning.

That reminds me of this.

I was right - sleeping on a double bed sucks! At times I was literally clinging to the edge. Plus I was cold, thanks to the ceiling fan (but **FCD **was sweating, so he needed the fan.) I heard the grandfather clock at 11, and 3, and 4, and 5:45, and I was awakened just before 7 when Higgs jumped up on me.

We took the kids to breakfast, then I ran to WalMart for a couple of things. Before the day is over, daughter and I will do as much prep as we can for tomorrow. We’ll eat at 2, so the bird can go in the over by 7 or so - and hour at 350° then down to 200° for 5 hours, then an hour to rest. While it’s resting, the dressing and sweet N.O.T. casserole can go into the oven and daughter can do the green beans-n-'shrooms. Oh yeah, and there are yeast rolls, too. I should make a list.

Happy Wednesday. I’m exhausted already!

And it’s also HamJam today.

Blurfage and Howdy from irk. Moooommmm I know what you mean. When last hubby and I had to share a queen size it was not even big enough. Love my king size bed.
I hate doing front desk clerk duties but here I am. I hope the rush is over.

Happy Hump Day!

The sun is shining and it’s 46 degrees.

Ripple is at day care. He seems to be getting better about it. He had his tail between his legs but he didn’t try to run out the door again.
He was so sleepy this morning. He followed me upstairs, taking the steps one at a time and collapsed the the top. He slept through my shower, dragged himself behind me to the bedroom, where he fell back asleep.
Then as he as following me back downstairs I said the magic words - want to go bye-byes?
Like flipping a switch.

I have a two hour drive tomorrow to my niece’s. But since she is having dinner at dinner time instead of the usual 2:00, I am figuring on a 3-4 hour drive home. I know traffic is going to be heavy. At least it is supposed to be N.O.S. and clear all day, so I shouldn’t have to deal with any ice.

T’ain’t a paid job, unfortunately, just a 3 week irk placement. It has to be done as part of the course, but where it is is sort of my problem.

The meeting did indeed run on; much happy whinging was done by all. Really, we’re mostly pretty happy, but there’s a few glaring issues, some of which are a simple fix that just hadn’t been noticed (none of the male lecturers had noticed there were no mirrors in the bathrooms- though neither did I until I had to try get something out my eye) but most of which won’t be fixed for ages, however noise must be made or they won’t be fixed ever…

It’s one of those days where I wish I had a minion at home to make dinner; the only place here that delivers is dominos, and I’m not a fan. The hazards of small town living…

Wifey has a cold and is clutching a snotrag everywhere she goes.

It started raining here yesterday. Weather guessers are predicting serious wet stuff for tomorrow. When Wifey saw this on the TV the following exchange took place. (As near as I can remember it.)

Wifey: “If it’s really bad I may call and beg off and we’ll just stay home.”

Me: “Okay. It’s up to you.”

Wifey: “Why don’t you want to go to the kid’s house?”

Me: ???

So I have no idea if we’re going to drive down or not. If we do it’ll be okay. Just wind and rain. No snow or anything like that. The only thing is; we have to remember to turn off and take back roads halfway back to avoid the traffic jam at the Woodburn Outlet Mall. I-5 goes right by it and thousands of cars will be trying to get in there tomorrow evening. Some people even park their cars along the freeway and jump the fence, apparently trusting that they can get back with their loot before the police tow their cars away. OY!

Blurfage Longest day ever. Out of here in 15 minutes though and then 45-60 minutes home. Then freedom until Firday morning at 0730.

Happy Thanksgiving All!

Howdy Y’all! I have been a cookin’ and prep machine today. However, stuff is ready for cookage/bakeage tomorrow. I actually cooked the collards already and will just heat ‘em up tomorrow. As I have said before they taste better to me that way. We have also supped so chillage ensues. I foresee feastin’ at one p.m. tomorrow. That way we can do munchies and Bloody Mary’s, feast, and hopefully be rid of everybody by fourish. Firday is a planned hide out in da cave day.

I’m kinda glad to be at the point where I get asked “Can you make a batch of your cranberry sauce?” and a variety of someone elses take care of the turkey, potatoes, stuffing, pies, etc, not to mention clean the kitchen and host the feast.
