Getting ready to leave.
I was told to bring dishes to carry leftovers home.
I’ll make sure to get a piece of pumpkin pie for my son. The only Thanksgiving dish he will care about anyway.
This year was the fifth year my church has had a Thanksgiving potluck, for folks who don’t have anyplace else to go. Sometimes family is far away, or, like mine, had their dinner last Sunday because several folks had to work. Both my sisters work in hospitals.
So my mom went to church with me and we stayed for the dinner, our second big feed in a week. The meat was provided, and everyone els brought the rest. I took a chocolate pecan pie, and a good sized pan of dressing. I’ve got a lot of the latter left but the pie has gone to that big cafe in the sky.
I’m stuffed.
Howdy Y’all! We made merry. We feasted. Folks left. Diswasher got loaded and cranked up. Nappage ensued. All in all a good time was had by all. As I always say, company is good both comin’ and goin’.
The dishwasher got loaded? You or OYKW? Cranked up too, what did you have to drink?![]()
Black Friday is becoming a retail trend here, presumably following the US lead despite Aust not having the equivalent of Thanksgiving.
Doesn’t influence me but I do think it’s crassly poor taste in view of the time of year and history of Black Friday 1939 when about 3/4 of the State of Victoria was under treat, 4,942,000 acres were burned, 1,300 homes, 3,700 buildings destroyed, several towns entirely obliterated and 71 people died … but what counts that against for 15% off RRP on a bread maker?
Sad PT. I don’t have any plans for Black Firday Shopping. I am actually going to irk. I am planning a very small read cheap Xmas this year. I am debt free and plan to stay that way. I even paid off my car last week. I will get something for hubby and the pets but that’s it. The grandkids get a free vacay most every year and that will have to do. No one gives me a free vacay.
Bah Hum Bug.
Had a lovely meal with my sister and family. Home to feed Ursala Kitteh and sleep in my own bad. I will go back to sis’s house tomorrow (about an hour drive) and spend the day with them.
The plan was for dinner at 2. It slipped to 2:30. The recipes daughter picked were good, tho the glazed carrots really weren’t, but they were tasty anyway. There are tons of leftovers, but the house is clean. Daughter and her family are leaving tomorrow and I plan to do some laundry for MIL.
It was a nice time and I am still stuffded!! Time to sleep…
Rain since yesterday and the air is finally see through, mostly.
We had Thanksgiving over at my sister’s and a good time was had by all.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Actually the wild ones ------------ (and forget the comments about knowing I enjoyed Wild Turkey) ------------ I wind-shot one once (which is actually borderline illegal) and it was funny as Hell watching it tumble out of the sky. The whole time it was coming down Less’s voice was running through my brain.
Irk went fairly smooth (at 2.5x pay TPTB made damn sure of that!) and I wore my Santa suit much to the delight of many coworkers. All in all I am happy and enjoying a little fudge straight from Uranus. We should have bought more. Damn but its really great fudge.
according to this thanksgiving fact thing im reading
“1966
The inception of Black Friday was much earlier than you might expect. It was in 1966 that the Philadelphia Police Department began referring to the day known for great shopping deals as “Black Friday,” hoping to deter shoppers from going out, as the Army-Navy football game that weekend was causing enough gridlock already.”
Up, caffeinated ,and sheveled. Off to work. Hockey after work… I mainly sold and mixers last night.
Up, but I only woke once overnight, so there’s that. FCD has to go to Lowe’s for a new toilet seat - the plastic hinge on the lid in the guest bathroom is broken and his dad shouldn’t be messing with stuff like that. I hope it’s not too insane there.
I plan to launder the bedding from both guest rooms, then move our stuff back into the larger room when the kids leave. I also told MIL that I’d do a load of towels. Plus I’ll run the vacuum, since there were 3 dogs here yesterday. Fun day ahead. Still better than braving the crazy shoppers.
Happy Black Firday!!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 46 Amurrkin out and cloudy (well, dark) with a predicted high of 58 and cloudy. Thus a gray and dreary day. Rah. The only thing I have to do today is go over to the church house to do candle duty. I could do that tomorrow, but I figure today will be a good day as nobody else will be around. Sattidy is set up the Altar day and I’d rather do this when I won’t be in the way of the Altar Guild. One does not want to be in the way of the Altar Guild. Plenty of leftovers to graze on today as the need to feed requires.
CupCakes OYKW did load the dishwasher. No pots and pans needed to be washed as I do that all along whilst cookin’. I unloaded the dishwasher and put stuff where it lives last night even. We had Bloody Mary’s for pre-feast festivities and a very good chardonnay at feast time. The house wine of the south, AKA sweet tea was also available.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands to be fed. Then I suppose I should purtify and don appropriate goin’ about the public clothin’. Such a bother!
Happy BLACK Firday Y’all!
And I’m out of bed. Higgs has been tended to and I’ve breakfasted on a pseudo-bagel and cream cheese. The bag said “bagels” but it was more like a donut-shaped blob of bread. Still, it’s been ingested, so there’s that.
I hear Roxy fussing - dunno if they’ll be getting up or soothing her and crashing again. For now, tho, I have the house to myself in peace.
Getting ready to go to my sister’s and spend the day with my nieces and nephew. And my sister and brother in law. Tis sunny which means it will be cold.
I picked the last of the meat from the turkey carcass then got the bones to the trash before it was picked up, so yay! **FCD **still hasn’t gotten back from Lowe’s. I’m out of yarn so I can’t crochet.
Getting really close to bored!!
Happy Firday!
It’s cold outside.
The cat is in and napping, the dog just came in. He seems to be enjoying the cold.
My son said he was good while I was gone, he didn’t flip out like he usually does. My niece’s husband told me I should have brought him since they put their dog (a pitbull) in the bedroom when company comes.
I ate too much yesterday, I felt like I had a hangover when I woke up today.
The drive down and back went well, other than Google directions missed a turn and I got a bit discombobulated on getting there. I’m not real famiiar with the town my niece lives in, but I had done some pet sitting in that area. I figured out my mistake soon enough and got back on course.
Dinner was supposed to be at 6, but of course it didn’t start until 7. It went smoothly except for a small disgreement between the nieces. I should have kept my mouth shut since it was about their mother, who didn’t show up, but I said my piece. I know my nieces are hurt that she didn’t come to dinner. The older one makes excuses for her, the younger one gets mad.
In an attempt to break up the argument my mother suggested we discuss politics, which got a huge NO! from everybody.
The only real gossip is that my oldest grand nephew (14) has a girlfriend, which would not be gossip except she is… gasp … 18.
I said I think that is not legal, well as long as they don’t have sex it’s legal. The guys seem to think it is cool, the women not so much.
I gave him my birth control talk.
Let’s keep it real, no babies!
I have some leftovers in the fridge calling my name, but am going to wait to see if my son wants them. I didn’t bring so much because he usually doesn’t eat Thanksgiving food, but last night as soon as I came in he wanted to dig into it. I can’t believe he actually wanted turkey and dressing. I brought mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce for him. The stuff he likes. He even ate the corn pudding. I would have brought more if I had know he was going to eat it.
Mr. Picky Eater is full of surprises lately.
Howdy all. Trust all of you Fellow Americans had a good Thanksgiving holiday, while the rest of you world MMPers are enjoying the party from afar.
Drive was in good weather, but had one mental dope. Just as gas level was getting critical, I hit a 4-mile traffic jam (seems they were worried about a potential slide and blocked a lane while a shovel worked at it). Got off with about 20 miles in range left, filled up…and proceeded to head back toward Nashville, and I couldn’t get off before passing by the whole mess again, so I got two jams for the price of one. Still made it in about 3:30pm.
Doing this from the library since I don’t own any of those new-fangled devices, and am seeking some quiet. My brother has two bassets, 7 and 8 years old (the third passed away this year) and my niece has a 5 year English Mastiff which got raised with the bassets (at least for a couple of years) and they are all comfortable with each other. Enter into this mix my nephew’s 6-monht old, un-neutered, hyperactive bloodhound puppy, and the calm routine has been distrubed by this interloper. No bloodshed, but lots of growling and a few snaps, so I’ll let the owners figure it out while I get some peace and quiet.
For all that, dinner was delicious and all the family seems to be doing quite well, so I’ll stick around until Sunday morning and head back to Ali-bama.
Have read all the messages, but being so far behind it’s not fair to respond to all of them, except for a variety of hugs, hopes, “I’ve been there’s”, and chuckles all where they are needed.
See you either Sunday or on the next MMP.
blurfage Irking. I overslept this morning so had to rush to get here and it sets the tone for the whole day. I am still sleepy. I guess I have a turkey hangover.
Happy Firday all!
