Apparently I was last logged in an hour ago, even though I haven’t been on the computer for well over 12 hours. This is getting annoying.
Just zapped. Standard behavior - logged in and started opening the forum tabs. The first tab I opened had the right last activity date. The rest of the tabs were marked as last activity of right now, with everything read.
Looks like gift memberships are still a no go
Zapped again.
I was experimenting yesterday (Wednesday) with the “private browsing” function in Firefox on my Mac, and my list of unread threads turned to read.
It’s the first time it happened to me, that I recall, whether with Firefox, Safari or iCab on the iPad. The only setting that was different was private browsing that I had turned on.
I assumed it happened because of the history and/or cookies that are turfed under private browsing.
If others with this problem use their browsers’ versions of private browsing, you could try an experiment by turning it off, at least when on the Dope.
I turned it off again. FWIW, the Mac version of Firefox requires killing the browser and restarting it after turning private browsing on or off. Maybe others do, too.
That’s not the issue with me, as I don’t even know what private browsing is, but the “reset your visited time” thing happens to me at least once a week lately.
I’m on tenterhooks for another resetting. Why can’t it happen if I’m returning after just an hour, instead of stuffing up all the threads with new posts over a 24 hour period?
Ok I don’t know if Tapatalk is high priority, but I can’t access Participated. I thought it was just me, but it’s happened twice in about a week.
Me too. It’s not daily like it was, but it’s starting to happen more often again.
“Internal server error”
I was just zapped again. But you raise an interesting point. I’m noticing it does seem more likely to happen the longer it’s been since your last login. It’s been almost 48 hours since I was logged in last. Could that be relevant?
When it happened to me, I simply went to Quick Links, then Subscribed Threads.
The unread posts weren’t in bold, but they were all at the top and marked Today, so it was a simple workaround.
That’s not a good solution. You still have to hunt for where the thread left off the last time you visited it, as it won’t jump to the first unread post. And New Posts made since your last login are all gone.
What am I missing? The only way I can skip all the stuff at the top is to click the small icon next to the last poster’s name.
I’m not sure now we’re talking about the same thing. When I get zapped, everything is marked as Read.
Well. I never.
I just discovered the small icon to the left of the thread’s title that took me to the first unread post.
Thank Og for the paper bag I put over my head. At least no one will recognize me.
I’ve always clicked the small icon to the right of the last poster’s name to get to the last post, then scrolled up to the first post marked Today.
Hey, look over there! Shiny!
Guests have to deal with ads. An effective way to NOT deal with them is to use Chrome and download the AdBlock Plus extension for Chrome. It works like a champ and even blocks the ads at the beginning of YouTube videos and whatnot.
This is my first visit in over 48 hours. I’ll be interested to see what happens after I hit ‘Submit Reply’ as well.
There goes that theory - at least my portion of it. Been here an hour and no zapping happening. One thing I will say, it definitely does seem to be more of a problem in the morning (e.g. around 9 am-ish, Sydney time.)
It’s usually an evening affair for me…but
- I’m in the US - your 9am is my 6pm, if the internet can be believed.
- I surf SDMB almost exclusive in the evenings, except on weekends
