Board performance problems

Maybe it is a US evening thing. I mostly work evening shift, so generally log on in the morning. Sometimes I log on again after I get home from (about midnight, Sydney time) but generally have no problems at that time.

If this turns out to be the cleaning crew unplugging a server so they can plug in a vacuum cleaner, I’m gonna be pissed.

It doesn’t seem to be a time-of-day thing. I’ve been zapped morning and evening alike.

Zapped again. Logged out for seven hours this time. :frowning:

Zapped. There goes my theory (at least as it relates to me) that it’s time of day.

Zapped again. Logged on, it said my last visit was 5:07pm, almost 90 minutes ago. Then I clicked on User CP, and it jumped to my last visit being now, and everything was marked Read.

Also zapped again.

500 Server error just now trying to see my subscriptions. Fine on a refresh.

Huh. Here’s a good thing, but it still makes me wonder: I forgot to log off a couple of hours ago, so I just left the Board sitting here untouched. Still have all the New Posts. In the past if I forgot to log off, all the New Posts got marked Read after I think it was 30 minutes.

Zapped yet again.

And again.

I’ve been having trouble with the search function - sometimes when I press search it gets stuck on a white screen at the “process” URL. If I refresh, it gives me the “wait 120 seconds” thing.

internal server error

Zapped again.

Well, fuck me. Just got back in after five days in Singapore, logged in and … ZAP! Now not only do I have to search back and find the starting point of five days’ worth of subscribed threads but there are no New Threads now at all for the past five days.

Is ANYONE working on getting this fixed?

Intentional, so SDMB doesn’t get flooded by robot searches. Or is this a whoosh?

You seem to be the major and possibly only person so afflicted. Is it possible that the problem is on your end?

No, he’s not the only one who has the problem. He’s the one most likely to bother reporting it, and he certainly seems to experience it more frequently than I do, at least, but many of us have had this issue at various times.

Yes, if you review this thread you will see that several of us report the problem with varying frequency. As for whether anyone is doing anything about it, I think the answer is clearly no.

No, he is not the only person so afflicted. Being a lazy little you-know-what I don’t always report the problem when it hits me, but do a little searching and you’ll find me several times in this thread. I do think he is getting hit more tham me, but it may relate to how often he is on and what time of day (relative to where the server is, not where he is) he is on.

See #409 for example.

It happens to me occasionally as well, although it’s occasional enough that I don’t usually bother reporting it. Just throwing in a word of support for Siam Sam, here.
