I’ve been having this problem quite regularly also, for some time now. I’ve reported it several times, as have many others, most recently in this thread, Post #22.
ETA: Within the last few days, it’s getting even worse: I log in (sometimes taking several attempts), then type in a new post, and when I click on “Submit”, then I get a sign-in request page again! When that happens, I just press Back and try again, and it usually works the second time.
I’m getting the same thing. The forum view shows threads as not having a post for over 12 hours, but when you go to the threads, they are current. If you check a thread in one forum, every thread in every forum is marked as “read.”
Well there may be a reason post counts have been declining lately. As I and others have been noticing, it takes multiple login attempts to post anything. (Including this post.)
The more times I have to try logging in, the more motivated I have to be to complete the process. More and more, if I just have some simple or goofy comment, I just say “screw it then” and forget about it.
Maybe lots of users are beginning to react that way. (Maybe it’s for the better?) I know I’ve been posting less lately because of this.
Given that the problems evolved fairly quickly, I’m dubious whether a new server in and of itself will fix the problems. I’d be more of a believer if things had been getting worse over a year or two. That said, maybe the act of exporting from the old server and importing to the new will clean up whatever mess is in the database (or make all H–l break loose).
Was your post in all-caps? The board software automatically turns all-caps posts into all-lowercase. The emoticon registers as caps because it has a capital D in it.
Perhaps tied in with the login problem: I just noted that the number of posts listed beside some threads are really wrong. The Astro City thread in Cafe Society has more than ten posts, but the indicator says “4.”
It has gotten worse. I clicked on, “Find all posts by Anonymous User,” and it said that my last post was yesterday instead of like 10 minutes ago. And my posts per day was 5.71 instead of what it should have been (5.77). Minor, but it shows how bad this board is acting up.
ETA: More so, this post wasn’t even visible until going out and into this thread.
Yeah, it’s all messed up. Every time I log on I get a different date for last posts in various threads- sometimes today, sometimes yesterday and threads I’ve recently posted in don’t show up uner my subscriptions. It’s all over the place.
Yeah, this is what annoys me the most. I don’t really care that much about the other stuff, but this is the feature I rely on the most as it tells me whether or not there have been any new posts in threads that I am following. In fact, the first thing I usually click is “User CP” because this feature is supposed to make it really easy to quickly see which of the threads you are following have new posts.
More oddness today. Clicked on User CP and some threads were marked UnRead with some mistakenly marked Read smattered among them. And some of the ones marked Unread I’d read two days ago! Then suddenly everything went to Read.
And apparently what it lists as the last post entered in a thread is often different from the actual last post(s) in a thread once you click into it. I think the hamsters have dropped acid.
“Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do,
I’m half crazy all for the love of you.
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage,
But you’d look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.”
I’m out of here, in bed with the blankets over my head for the duration! I’m not being ejected out no air-lock!
Still more weirdness: I clicked on Quote in a thread to respond to a post, and there is no quoted post in the box I type my post in. But I could still type my post and post it okay.
Oh, this is too rich - I’m having board performance problems trying to post in a thread about board performance problems.
I meant to post about how I’m seeing the “New Posts” not coming up right, either, and apparently now I can’t select multiple posts and quote them - the selection is just being ignored.
