I don’t think that they will repeal it.
Now, create a definition of what constitutes the press, I could see that. And, of course, that definition would be favorable to news outlets that are favorable to the administration.

What happened to Slithy Tove?
Disagreeing with you doesn’t make a person unhinged. Hallucinating that there’s some sort of widespread support here for political violence, on the other hand…
Poor Larry*???
I just saw that John Brennan is having none of Trump’s nonsense (re: blaming the media for the tone of discourse in America today):
Yes, the comparisons to the Unabomber case (which was unsolved until the brother spoke up) are missing the points that forensics have advanced enormously, and that there is more video surveillance than there was back then.
Presumably the bombs that went through the mail were, er, mailed at some point. Even those ‘self-service’ kiosks in post office lobbies have cameras trained on them.
This guy is going to be found, and he’s going to be tried, convicted, and imprisoned.
(Unless Trump pardons him, of course.)
Mike Pence’s (edited) tweet:
We condemn the attempted attacks against fmr (Kenyan-born) Pres Obama, the Clintons (who should be locked up), @CNN (aka fake news) & others. These cowardly actions are (kinda) despicable & have no place in this Country (we prefer 2nd amend solutions). Grateful for swift response of @SecretService, @(corrupt) FBI & local law enforcement. Those responsible will be brought to justice (and pardoned).
on the Unabomber case this is interesting - his brother suspected him even before the manifesto was published. When he read the manifesto it pretty much confirmed what his brother already thought .
Not to mention the Unabomber’s bombs were actually functional.
A day later 538 publishes a better article. How To Make Sense Of This Week’s Mail Bombs
We’ve written about the Global Terrorism Database before…"
“Since 1970, businesses have been far more likely to be targeted in this country than government.”
“It’s not surprising that no one was hurt.”
“Lone wolves are common” in the US.
“A decade ago, then-Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s office got into political trouble for a report warning about the rise of violent right-wing extremism, Chenoweth pointed out. Those are concerns that have since been echoed by law enforcement, a Cato Institute researcher and the Southern Poverty Law Center. …right-wing extremism had increased significantly this decade, making up 35 percent of U.S. terrorist attacks from 2010 to 2016 — compared to just 6 percent in the 2000s.”
At their best, TPM, Vox, Kevin Drum, and 538 operate at a higher level than even the New York Times. Though NYT has a wonkpage named Upshot which is worth regular visits. And nobody matches NYT’s combination of depth and breadth.
Great job. This reminds me of Kevin Nealon’s excellent routine here. Mr. Subliminal is exactly what is needed for this “administration”.
I don’t think they want to wait for the First Amendment to be repealed.
Whenever they find out who’s doing this, I suspect it’s going to be a big surprise. JMHO, of course.
Not sure how it would be a surprise, just that it probably will be.
What happens if they do not? Election Day is ten days hence. What if it takes much longer than that?
Or, what if they grab some guy and put him out there, just to have a suspect? Some guy who vehemently protests his innocence? I mean, the CFSG hates the FBI anyway, I could imagine DoJ trying to lower them to this administration’s natural skill level.
Any possibility that this is only a first wave and that the second will contain functional devices? Basically, we’re all kind of handicapped here because we’re sane (well, most of us anyway) people trying to think like crazy people.
Join the NRA.
NBC reporting an 11th bomb was headed toward Cory Booker.
On edit: a 12th for James Clapper.
Stop spouting that Fox news horse shit. Even better, just shut the fuck up, in general.
It was Trump who kept (and still keeps) using that “tone of discourse”. Fuck him. He’s been making veiled threats and talking shit about what his “base” could do or might do or should do for two fucking years. Fuck him.
I was wondering that, myself.
