Bones series finale (open spoilers)

Any thoughts on the Bones series finale that aired last night? I felt it was fairly satisfying. Though all the misdirections in the last two episodes were seemingly unnecessary (Brennan maybe quitting, maybe losing her genius, Boothe maybe losing use of his hand, Aubrey leaving, etc), but i guess that added some some weight to the big reveal: that all would stay as it is. I am glad they were able to let Hodgins be happy without having to “fix” him.

Any overall thoughts on the series? While they stayed very true to their episode formula for the full 12 seasons, they didn’t seem to have any specific “jump the shark” moments. Agree?

I think they jumped the shark back when the one night stand and resulting pregnancy obliterated the sexual tension between Bones and Booth and turned them into an old married couple instantly.

At that point I think the plots got weirder and more and more outlandish and contrived. I watched for another year or so then bailed. The early seasons were very good IMHO.

I loved the episode where they created faces for the remains of slaves. That was wonderful.

I also loved the parade of interns.

I thought the introduction of Bone’s father was the moment I quit. The guy’s a robber (and possible murderer) but the show treats him like a good guy.

Also. the assassination of Zack’s character clinched my disgust. So I missed all the baby drama. Thank goodness.

I liked the finale. I thought it was an interesting way to answer the question of whether Brennan wanted to continue with her career: make it disappear! Then her question was answered. She didn’t realize she’d miss it until it was gone.

I’ve watched on and off during the course of the series. They really lost me when they killed off Sweets! WTF! The actor wanted more time to produce and direct movies, but even he didn’t know they’d off his character. It sounded like he wanted to come back occasionally. It would’ve been nice to see Sweets at Cam’s wedding.

I’ll miss it.

I was a sporadic watcher the last few seasons, I watched the last few to see how it ended. Compared to some series finalies it was pretty good. No crazy out of character changes or WTF moments.

Making Hodgens king of the lab made me smile.
