Borderlands 2 General Discussion

Moxxi guns are level based. They are very good guns, I ran Moxxi’s good touch for a long time after I earned it. I just learned about an SMG that is in a pool of water in frostburn canyon that is extremely powerful. It’s accuracy is pretty weak but it is super strong. I crushed Wilhem with it. According to other people you can get it as many times as you want and it is always scaled to your level. It is named Lascaux

I’m having trouble with Fink’s arena. A huge part of it is just that if you die with Ordered Chaos Gaige, everything is terrible forever, because you lose all your mad weapon power. Since my main survival skill is a skill that refills my shields (while taking 5% of my HP) every time I kill somebody, being unable to deal massive damage is a real problem.

I think when I get back into the game I may end up resorting to playing “hide until Deathtrap is charged.”

Also, for shielded guys, I find nothing is better than explosives, especially rockets, that’s how I tend to deal with them.

ETA: Do you get Moxxi guns for every 10k or just the first?

It looks yoou can get them as may times as you like. I play using mouse and keyboard, so I miss the vibration entirely.

It is also not exactly every 10k. There is some randomness to it, so don’t think you are bugged if you don’t get them right away.

People seem to think that you get get it faster if you spam the $100 tip, but I have not really tested that myself.

Any reason to hold on to Eridium? Or should I just be upgrading ammo and such whenever I have enough to spend?

I’m at Wilhelm right now, playing solo as Maya and getting my ass handed to me. I try critting him with the sniper rifle (the one Hammerlock gave me, best one I’ve encountered so far) but his repair drones just patch him right back up. Attack the repair drones and he spawns a bunch of attack bots. He’s slow and predictable so as a foe on his own he doesn’t impress me. But with his entire crew helping him he wins every time. I need to get some rocket launcher ammo up in this I guess.

Huh… I didn’t even know Willhelm did any of that. My Gaige came in with 150 anarchy stacks, summoned Deathtrap, and it took under 20 seconds to take him down. I was thinking of coming in here and asking everybody else if he was really EASY.

The difficulty of the fights depend a lot on your level, what sort of guns you happen to have and your class - Gaige + DT seems easymode to me. I’m not even sure if I want to continue playing mine, using Deathtrap feels like cheating since he just flies around murdering everything with no skill or input from me required, and if you have that Close Enough (or whatever it is called) talent you don’t even need to aim when shooting.

I just might switch to Zer0 and start talking in haikus instead.

First playthrough as Zero I had trouble with Wilhelm. Arrogance is right that so much in this game depends on your gear and lvl. The second playthrough I died at Wilhelm a few times, picked up that smg and destroyed him without breaking a sweat. If you can get ahold of any sort of halfway decent corrosive weapons your life will get a lot easier.

I didn’t even realize wilhelm was supposed to be a serious boss. I got a little scared with the official health bar up at the top and all that, but when he died SO quickly without me even getting a single second wind chance, I was like “was that supposed to be a real fight?”

I had done every single optional quest, done lots and lots of killing, and such though, and was playing as the soldier so I had the turret to distract him.

But yeah, I’m glad that if I play through with someone else it might be more difficult.

Er… the entire Best Friends Forever tree is supposed to be the easymode tree. The tree for people who aren’t skilled, but it’s also less effective. Ordered Chaos is supposed to be the hardest tree to play in the game, and essentially risk/reward. It brings your accuracy down to nothing but increases your damage ridiculously. Deathtrap alone does not cut it against 2-3 badasses and bosses, and is a cute distraction at best, and then you’re there stuck having to essentially go into melee against things that can eat you for lunch.

You also effectively have zero talents right after you die, a HUGE part of Ordered Chaos is putting yourself in harm’s way and not dying – because if you die, you pretty much lose all benefit from your tree. If you keep living, you become insanely powerful, but also have to be that much more in the fray as your accuracy goes down. In this way, Deathtrap is necessary as a distraction, he’s still rather powerful if you put the Ordered Chaos talent into him, and he does slaughter enemies, but you will probably die if you don’t use him (though you can get by without summoning him against normal mooks after you have about 50 anarchy stacks).

The middle tree (can’t remember what it’s called) is supposed to be balanced at about the same level as the other four vault hunters.

Deathtrap really is completely overpowered early in the game though, but that’s because he has to be balanced to compensate for the lack of skill of the people who are just starting off in the BFF tree. He becomes progressively less of a crutch as you go on.

If you want to play with Gaige, it sounds like you may want to focus on Ordered Chaos, it’s really satisfying, but you really have to watch what you’re doing.

Basically, with Ordered Chaos if you have to good fortune to have not died before a really difficult encounter, it will be rather easy because of mad damage. But if you die before/during it (like I did at the arena), it becomes very hard to ramp back up.

I nuked him as a sniper Maya. It definitely took a little planning and the timing was delicate. Here are a few tips that might help. Use a sniper rifle with elemental damage over time. If you keep him corroded, it will mitigate the effects of the repairs. Alternate to a slag weapon if possible as well. Observe where he returns for repairs. You should be able to preserve direct line of sight to his repair spot if you are careful and withdraw to the tunnel-like area around the fast travel node. Keep pinging him while the drones work.

If you kill the drones, he will activate and chase you. But he won’t follow you all the way back into the tunnel. He just launches his easily avoidable area attacks from the entrance. Do destroy the drones whenever possible. You can phaselock and headshot the summoned attack bots and you will still have time to do some damage to Wilhelm if you have a decent rifle. It’s also handy to have an summoned attacker around if you die and need a quick Second Wind. If Wilhelm is alone and you die, SOL.

You can do this without a launcher, but hell, launchers are fun.

So, does anyone other than me spend half their time trying to grow God Goliaths?

No, but every time a Goliath levels up I feel like it should be making the Warcraft III Bloodlust sound effect.

I finally beat Wilhelm but I think the game knew I was having a hard time and made him easier as the fight went on. First his repair drones were nuking me all by themselves. I’d destroy a few of them (melee worked great on them for some reason) but three more would spawn. Meanwhile, the gun loaders in the background would be tossing grenades and EMP blasts at me. I tried hiding, I tried going balls-out and nothing was working. Eventually his reinforcements just stopped showing up. I got him with a combination of phaselocking (which did straight damage to him) and shotgun blasts to the face. I need to find some better guns!

I found Wilhelm to be a really easy fight - maybe I’d leveled past him by the time I got to him, or something, but I took him down first try without breaking a sweat. Kind of anticlimactic, after the build up they’d given him. After what happens after you retrieve his power core, I thought maybe it was an intentional, plot related design decision. Guess I was just lucky.

Not half my time, but… yeah, some time. I love leveling up goliaths. And then burninating them with Moxxi’s Bad Touch.

It probably works either way. Some builds/gear combos are clearly better at dealing with him than others. What kind of weapon were you using? I struggled with Wilhelm a few times before I made some minor gear and tactical changes, and then he dropped like a looter in a riot.

On the previous subject, now I have given Moxxi a gigantic number of tips and still haven’t even gotten her lower-tier gun. Boo. And I’m just starting to get into SMGs, too.

But I did just find a burst-firing slagging sniper rifle that far out-damages anything I have encountered so far. Ammo management is difficult, but dear lord, it’s utterly devastating.
