Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

It’s unlocking in about an hour according to Steam. Anybody picking this up? I don’t know who I’m going to play. The gunslinger lady looks pretty fun, but I kind of like the idea of Wilhelm.

I’m not playing that game.

I seem to recall that there was some controversy over whether it would be discounted because it didn’t have enough content to justify a full release price. Then suddenly it was at the full release price and I’ve seen no follow-up on the issue.

As exciting as the prospect of working in different gravities is, a matter generally ignored in science fiction games, the use of oxygen as a game resource has been described as making the entire game, in effect, a water level.

So, I don’t know. I think I can wait on this one.

Who’s playing?!?

I can’t wait to get my hands on it, but my wife and I have too much going on this winter to start another game.

Too many games to play right now. I’ll revisit come the spring Steam sale.

Nah, say what you will but the Oxygen is superfluous. That’s not a good thing, necessarily, but I’ve literally never been in danger of suffocating. Enemies drop O2 canisters like they’re hot potatoes.

The only time O2 really matters is when you’re trying to make a tricky double jump, but there’s almost always a nearby air vent. The system is totally superfluous, and while I can’t say it adds anything to the game, I also can’t say it subtracts anything. The new mechanics (butt stomp, doublejump, and shooting enemy air masks) are good, but could have been done without the O2 system.

So far my verdict is that the game is a BL2 DLC, basically. It’s not as good as Tiny Tina’s, but way better than the other DLCs. If you like BL2 and didn’t burn yourself out on it, you’ll probably like this. If you hated Borderlands 2 or completely burnt yourself out on it then skip it.

I bought it at full price because I wanted a good co-op game to play with my friend and we used to play BL2 a lot.

Presented without comment or context because what the fuck?

The car jumps seem really badly designed this time. I’ve run into invisible walls, bounced off the launch ramp in an utterly random direction, landed solid then flipped backwards into a chasm…hell, there’s a few ramps where I’ve gotten out of the buggy and done the double-jump, instead, because it’s safer!

You can play as Tiny Tina in this game?

I thought it was just Claptrap, Roland, Jack, and…other people

Because it’s fucking awesome, that’s why.

Doesn’t having her picture in the top right indicate she’s talking to you? I don’t remember as it’s been a while…

The four playable characters are William (Jack’s right hand in BL2), Athena (the assassin you meet in BL1 Knoxx DLC), Nisha (the Sheriff in BL2) and Claptrap (the most annoying thing ever in every game and DLC).

Any of them play similar to a siren?

Okay, I’m in.

Oh yeah that is how it works isn’t it? Oops. Guess it’s been a while for me too

So I got one right. I call that a victory!

I haven’t actually played it since it’s not out in EU yet and I’m waiting for a sale in any case, but here’s the skill trees.

I grabbed it since I don’t wanna get into Wasteland 2 till I go on my winter vacation. Its just more of the same ol’ Borderlands, but I love Borderlands so it works out very well. As mentioned upthread oxygen is not really a big issue, plenty of it around, though it does feel like a superfluous mechanic. I suspect that everyone with more then one play through on the previous titles will ultimately end up buying it and loving it despite the gripes.

Jack, or at least one of Jack’s body doubles, is supposed to be one of the DLCs.
