I was laughing my ass off at that thread, I couldn’t believe anyone took him seriously. “The guy had war in his name, so obviously he knew what he was talking about”
From what I read, I think he needs to be pitted for his comma use alone. Reading those posts was like driving a car and hitting the brakes really hard at random moments. And doing it for a long trip. This is the second poster I’ve seen that just seems to be posting to rile people up and see how long he can keep them going. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a former member that knows all of the things that piss people off and does them specifically on purpose. I was recently in a thread that dealt with being tired of this “god vs. atheism thing.” It had the same feel. Super poor grammar and spelling mixed with made up ideas. The funny thing was, everyone was willing to cut the guy some slack (on grammar, etc) because we all thought he was Russian or something (at least, he sounded Russian in my head) and English was a second or third language. Then he said he was from England. Dunno, it just has the feel of 15 year olds seeing how long they can keep an argument up that they have no real interest in, in the first place.
As an aside, Jurphs posts were simply awesome, and made reading through those threads almost worth it.
Cover me boys, I’m going in for a look. If I don’t come back within 10 minutes, send regards to my loved ones.
:gulp:
I have returned from reading all 3 threads… amazing…
Had he posted the copyrighted article in full when you read? He claims that because it said “printable version”, it was OK to post it elsewhere without quote tags.
Starting the countdown…
Five.
Four.
Three.
A cite! A cite! My kingdom for a cite!

Don’t hold your breath. His MO hasn’t changed in a week and he’s not gotten so much as a warning or a mod instruction. They’re not going to ban someone for something as trivial as refusing to respect the conventions of civilized debate. It’s not like its the board’s goal to stamp out ignorance or anything.
I confess to feeling a little guilty at enjoying the uranium thread. The temptation to join the circling wolf pack was near irresistable. My heart forces me, however, to defend BoyScout11 in some little way. He does not seem to be nasty. His ideas are somewhat unconventional. He is, lets face it, not the sharpest tool in the toolbox. Those aggregate qualities do not make him a bad person. Moreover, I will make a bold statement: his very presence enriches these boards. Perhaps not in the way he intends, but enrichment nonetheless. That is the best I can do.
Actually, he did get quite a warning just recently:
He says he’ll leave voluntarily, in the next post.
Really, InvidiousCourgette? BoyScout seemed harmless and even amusing at first, but he’s currently in the middle of a meltdown in the Uranium thread. And that’s happened in all his other threads too – he starts off with a bunch of imaginative but woefully uneducated ideas, everyone picks him apart, and when he can’t think up anymore bullshit workarounds, he starts trying to be clever by calling the other posters “girls” or comparing them to babies. Man, that’s some intellectual heft there. As pathetic as his attempts are, he is trying to be nasty.
It’s just another thing he can’t do well, like apply logic or use the quote function.
Not being the sharpest tool in the shed doesn’t make him a bad person – being willfully ignorant in the face of overwhelming waves of proof that he is wrong makes him a bad person. Ignorance is kind of like drugs – you have to want to get better.
This guy not only wants to convince us that providing proof of one’s argument is unnecessary, but that it’s not even an acceptable debate tactic!
He’s like the Anti-SDMB. If he and Cecil ever met, it would cause a rift in the space-time continuum.
Perhaps not. But his incessant use of taunting, childish insults do place him onto the “wrong side of the tracks”.
Though as I confessed in the Uranium thread, it was entertaining.
Well it was true when I said it. I’m happy to see it. I’d be happier to see willful ignoranace caught earlier.
Me, too. I reported the guy the first day I read his drivel.
Yes, I agree with you regarding the calling people girls and what have you. I was a victim of one such attack in the taxes thread. I did not mind the attack, because it was already apparent he was a liitle slow. It bothered me more that he might think that it would be insulting to someone. He later went on to explain that he actually thought I was female, for what reason I could not fathom.
I think the guy is a grandfather and is probably not too quick at picking up new ideas and concepts. I suppose I didn’t like it that I was enjoying his torment. That is why I came here to try to stick up for him in whatever way I could.
I think you are right though about the fabric of the space-time continuum. We must keep him and Cecil apart.
And, as our pal has decided to deprive us of his valued presence on the boards, I think I will e-mail a mod and have this thread locked.
A pity to lose him, in a way. The boards, as many have mentioned, have not come together in unity like this since the election started heating up.
And, the obligatory MP quote:
Regards,
Shodan
It’s the -ette suffix in your username. It very much lends to a predisposition that you’re female.
Right, because everyone who has said, “I’m outta here” has actually followed through on that promise. Oh wait, I can’t think of a single example of that happening.
Ooh, I’ve never posted in a thread that got locked before - Woo!
Thank you, BoyScout11!
Oh I see. I was actually more surprised by furt’s confident and correct analysis that I was male. I wanted to ask out of curiousity how he knew, but I felt that that thread, indeed all of BoyScout11’s threads, would benefit from as few additional diversions and hijacks as possible. Possibly the reverse is true as well.
