I should clarify that I meant hospitals. Sorry for any confusion.
Angry people who also feel powerless can be very, very dangerous.
Well, to be specific, angry people who also feel powerless and are willing to take out their anger in criminal violence against other people can be very, very dangerous.
Angry people who also feel powerless but don’t feel entitled to murder innocent people over it are generally quite a bit less dangerous.
And then you have people angry at guns. But that’s for another forum.
From presser:
Gilroy Mayor speaking first.
Expressing shock and sadness for what has happened today.
Thoughts and prayers extended to victims and families.
Local LE and partners will investigate every aspect of this crime.
Gilroy Police Chief:
Started at 5:41 pm
Suspect engaged in less than a minute
Weapon used was a rifle
1 Suspect was shot and killed
Came in to festival via creek, cut through a perimeter fence
LE believes there was a 2nd suspect involved in some way, but they don't know if they played a support role or were also armed
4 fatalities, including the suspect
Asking for witnesses who videotaped anything or took pictures to contact them
Don't know motive
So there was timely LE response. Thank goodness.
The count is currently 15 injured, 3 dead + the gunman. An additional suspect is still a possibility.
Well holy fuck. My best friend, his wife and two year old baby were there and left an hour before it happened. He is gonna be freaked for a bit about that.
But we aren’t talking about those people; we’re talking about at least one angry person who DID kill random people.
Within one minute, one of those news articles said. That’s a pretty awesome-sounding response time, and undoubtedly stopped the casualty list getting any higher.
That said - how completely appallingly sad in every other respect ![]()
Luckily they were both armed with guns.
It’s just a shame the perpetrator was, too.
Probably because every festival nowadays has a significant police presence, more than would’ve been there in the past to deal with the usual drunks & punks.
A guy with Iranian heritage has 1/3 of his Instagram posts complaining about “white twats” and you think he’s maybe a white supremacists?
You’re claiming that terrorism is genetic?
He also praised a “book … described as being akin to Social Darwinism and includes misogynistic and racist principles ‘claiming that the woman and the family as a whole is the property of the man and proclaiming the innate superiority of the Anglo-Saxon race. The book also contains many strong anti-Semitic statements.’”
CNN played a phone video last night with sound. It was definitely an AK.
Two women who were vendors reported something interesting live on CNN, although I don’t know if they realized the importance of it at the time. They said that at first there was one shot. Then there was a pause as they saw the shooter fooling with a magazine trying to get it into the rifle. It was a little after that when the gunman let loose with a large barrage of bullets.
OK, what does that seem to mean? It seems to mean that idiot had a round chambered earlier and pulled out the magazine ( possibly when he was going over/through the fence?). While walking around with the clip out, he must have been playing with his finger inside the trigger guard when… whooops! That round in the chamber went off into the ground.
He was ‘made’ at that point by his victims, who began to run … even though he was probably not yet at the place he wanted to set up as his nest. He then had to, on the fly, grab his magazine and try to jam it in quickly before everyone got away.
It looks to me like that one in the chamber going off saved a lot of lives by giving people more time to run and take cover.
