So they “first dicussed” a possible fake job in March, but they actually flew down to Mississippi and offered the $20 million bribe just last week. Favre himself said they were just trying to buy him off.
That Sharpe guy was pretty good before he got hurt. He didn’t singlehandly do anything ever. No NFL player is so great that they don’t rely on teammates. Farve was a product of his receivers, his running backs, his offensive line, the schemes of his coaching, defense, special teams, and more. While I don’t agree that he has done hardly anything for the franchise, (Perenial contender is a pretty important achievement even with only one title) you can’t say it was all Farve.
I think he made a bunch of average teams into good teams, a couple of good teams into great teams and a couple of crappy teams into average teams.
We all know Dio is not the most objective commentator on the Packers.
True. On a related note, I hear Donovan McNabb kills puppies and Tony Romo eats them.

Right, because Favre is purer than the driven snow and Jesus Christ himself and would never lie to the fans!
You’re saying they didn’t fly to Mississippi and offer him $20 million not to play?
Oh I remember all right. I remember them playing the song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” on morning radio with the words changed to
I know Majkowski has let you down,
At least you’re not the Cleveland Browns
Don’t worry… Infante
I remember before Favre got to the Packers cell phones were a novelty, DVDs didn’t exist and the internet was a text driven plaything of Academia. Is that all going to come back now that Favre left the Packers?
They had already offered him $20 million not to play when they flew down to Mississippi to tell him not to.
In other news, John Madden has demanded that all 16 New York Jets regular season games be broadcast on NBC’s Sunday Night Football or he’s going to demand a trade.
It is Wisconsin.
I think Madden’s plan is just to refer to every quarterback as Brett Favre all season.
“Look at how Favre sees the rush here, as he hands off to Willie Parker.”
Your cite doesn’t say that. And what do you mean they flew down to “tell” him not to play. It wasn’t their choice. They flew down to try to pay him off. You’re not seriously going to deny that are you? Even the Packers aren’t denying it.
My God, I never thought of the ramifications of Madden having to go through Favre withdrawal while he is still playing. Do the Jets even have a Sunday Night game scheduled?
Won’t someone please think of poor John Madden, he was going to have a hard enough time when it was just retirement, but this might be too much for him.
Sure it was their choice. Just as Brett had the right to reretire, they had the option of benching or cutting him.
The Packers aren’t denying it because nobody is accusing them of it. I don’t see you denying that you apply haddock fillets to your forehead at night to keep your skin soft.
Don’t they have the ability to switch up the night games now? I have a feeling we might see some Jets games swapped out with some of those Bengels-Dolphins type barn burners.
They had neither option, realistically. Cutting him was exactly what he wanted, by the way.
Have you paid no attention to the news all week. EVERYBODY is reporting that they tried to pay him off, including Favre (who, no matter what you think of him, does not have a history or reputation of dishonesty. Let’s not forget, it was the Packers that tried to lie about the cell phone thing).
It doesn’t look like there’s a Sunday Night game scheduled, but as you know, that’s their flexible schedule.
I think just for John Madden alone we’ll be subjected to a few Sunday Night Favre-fests – even if the Jets are 1-5 and playing the Raiders.
ahem
Here’s some more pretty good stuff.
