I’ve watched two out of the three episodes run on my local PBS station, and WOW, this is an amazing piece of work! It stars Stephen Tomkinson and Derva Kirwan of * Ballykissangel* fame.
The premise is that the two main characters have died, in the same neighborhood, under different circumstances, but they find each other united in the fact that they are wandering post-death in an odd state. Strangers can see & talk to them, but don’t remember after a few minutes. Those that knew them can’t see them. The two protagonists try to right their relations with those they’ve left behind through each other, who, as strangers to each other’s loved one’s, can see and hear them.
The episodes that I’ve seen are beautiful in the way they try to point out the interconnectedness of people, and that there are no black and white absolutes of human relations. Complex emotions are shown through the odd, frustrated interplay of the characters. They get pissy, bitchy, and try to muddle through. There’s no happy endings, but each episode highlights a facet of the conundrum of getting along with others.
I’ve rarely been whupped up about a TV show, and I don’t think I’ve done this one justice. If it’s on your PBS station, it’s worth the eyeball time.
