I’d bet you’d be a fan of the portrayal of the gay couple in The Sarah Silverman Show. Have you seen it?
Yeah, don’t lose that open.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine theme song is now my default ringtone.
I know I overthink shows a lot, but the most recent episode led to more overthinking than usual. In the pizzeria episode in season 1, Captain Holt states that he reads Boyle’s email blast because “it’s the only one that includes mouthfeel.” But then this week Holt could hardly care about food and likes PB&J sandwiches for their economy.
Now I’m torn between retconning the mouthfeel comment as one of those things Holt does that his husband’s friends from the university take as amusingly clever jokes, trying to develop some SED or sensory issue based head canon about Holt’s food preferences, or just accepting that sometimes writers and producers on serial television don’t keep track of established character beats the way fans do.
I do think that last one is probably the most reasonable. Reasonable maybe doesn’t do best in my household though- my husband and I literally spent 10 good minutes last night discussing this and our theory of the Boyle/Diaz relationship being something of an inversion or comparison to the Peralta/Santiago.
SED?
Selective Eating Disorder.
Capt. Holt seems like the kind of man who would read such a thing because he appreciates the writing, and not because he’s necessarily interested in pizza.
Frank would only be horrified that his ‘secret past’ had been uncovered…as I am firmly convinced that Holt and Pembleton are in fact the same character.
And because he wants to know everything about his turf, and feels Boyle’s reviews are the most in-depth.
Though the show does have problems with consistent characterization. With Gina, mostly. She’s been presented as someone who’s savvy enough to save enough money to buy Jake’s apartment, and has provided key insights into how the office works (the hacker situation), but also goes to Captain Holt’s house and steals all the silverware?
In the most recent episode, Captain Holt made a croque-monsieur for his husband and a second one for Boyle. Boyle tried it and said it was perfect. I laughed when he said, “Now I know how Salieri felt.” And Terry Crews is great.
Picked this thread to talk about the finale.
Can’t imagine Andre Braugher will be gone long - though I suppose he and Chelsea Perretti could be in the “B” plot for a while.
Some googling says that what will happen at first, and the powers that be claim they don’t even know who will be the next captain:
Brian
