Bruce Jenner is becoming a woman

Nitpick: It’s Richard Raskind. So as not to confuse the name with another transwoman, Lyn Raskin.

See, I really don’t remember her birth name! Correction noted, thank you.

Oops. Yeah. Late night doping typo.

You can’t really think that Bruce would completely upend his life, and the lives of his family, spend years getting himself physically, and psychologically ready, and then have painful major surgery, just to get a reality show.

I’m guessing you have **aceplace **on ignore?

I want to say that I have no problem with people changing their external identities to fit who they are/want to be on their insides. Kudos to Bruce for being brave enough to do so, and I hope many other people who are suffering with gender identity issues can gain solace from his transition.

That said, my current impression of Jenner is that she is/has been a reality star and parent to the Kardasians. That is enough to make me dislike her intensely, and to judge her as a promoter of a vain, vacuous lifestyle of idiocy and celebrity worship. I would be doubly angry and sad if her transition is going to be turned into a reality show.

I hope my impressions are wrong, because I loved Jenner growing up and ate more Wheaties than I could hold. But I despise everything about “celebrity” reality television and the people who feed at that teat of stupidity.

I think a reality show about this would be handled more tactfully on a different channel. I can’t say which one, but I know being on E!, Kris Jenner will have her hand in this somehow, along with her Ka$hKow, Kim.

Just in case this was directed at my recommendation of Transparent, it’s not a documentary but a very well made dramatic/comedy series. Hailed as one of the best shows of last year.

I would argue that “reality show” and “handled tactfully” are mutually exclusive.

Just depends on the production company really. There area many “reality shows” that are quite tactful and take more of a serialized documentary approach. I know that’s not what this family has typically done with their Bravo shows but that was all Kardashian and Jenner kind was just along for the ride. I could see him seeking out a more “delicate” production company for this to make something that’s a positive for trasngender people (apologies if this is incorrect terminology).

I’m not a pop culture snob by any means, but I really have never seen an episode of any of the Kardashians shows. I only know them by their constant appearance EVERY-FREAKING-WHERE.
My understanding is that he seems the more grounded/normal/less drama-queenish (no slur intended towards his gender identity- I consider drama queen a gender neutral term) of the klan. Is that true or not in general?
And does he get along with his stepdaughters on the show?

Some years ago a friend confided in me that her dad was a bit odd. Been caught wearing her mums undies a few times over the years. Well about a year ago this dad (now refered to as The Parent :D) has become a woman. The Parent must be around 75! My friend went to visit the parent and came back saying ‘it’s never too late to be a little old lady.’

What I find nice is that they have a new relationship - new mum is more of a real mum than the original, the original being a bit of a testy old so and so.

You’re right about that. Maybe a documentary would be a better format for this.

Nitpick. Their shows air on E! not on Bravo.

Today Jenner was involved in a car accident in which someone died.

Story here.

Read at another site that he may have been pursued by papparazzi immediately before the crash.

Can’t resist:

Well, they has nailed the driving part…

::d&r::

I wonder at the next family gathering, when Bruce is talking to people, if Kanye will suddenly interupt him and then be like, “Hey (New Name), I’m really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but Renee Richards is the best transgender athlete of all time!”

There are certain inherent advantages to silicon implants. Great padding in case Bruce hit the steering wheel.

Did you know that if Juice Newton married David Brenner, she’d be Juice Brenner?

and guilty of necrophilia?

I was standing in the checkout line today and saw People magazine and some other mag – Us or InStyle or one of those – talking about Jenner, and I couldn’t figure out from the cover what their take is on it. Are they reporting the news? Are they giggling about it, like “OMG you will NEVER GUESS what I just heard!! Tee-hee!” Or are they saying, “Oh! He was an American hero! This is shocking! How sad to see what he has become!” etc.

It matters only in that I’m trying to figure what they think America will think, or what they think America should think, in order to sell as many magazines as possible. People tend to follow the lead they are given, and People magazine is about as mainstream as it gets.
