Bruce Jenner is becoming a woman

Overall, as far as the pronounning goes, I can’t think of a better instance for Cecil’s “h’or’sh’it.”

[QUOTE=Stoid]
In the 80s, I worked for Jenner’s business manager, and at one point I was the assistant bookkeeper on Jenner’s account.

Speaking from this authority, I can tell you that:

You really know how to respect a client’s confidentiality.

My niece works for “a designer store whose name you’d recognize” in NYC that closed so that Kris Kardashian and one of her less famous children could shop in private. She said that they were… almost disappointingly… nice. (The same week had a similar visit from Mariah Carey, who was apparently a horror, as have been some people who are obscenely rich but not famous who’ve managed to get the place closed for their shopping.)

Yeah, I do. But once it’s out…

All that stuff about how he spent his money, and that he’d expressed his intent to transition privately to his accountant years ago, etc., was already out? I doubt it or why would you have come in and treated it like a herald bearing unique information?

This.

In that whole long screed, I think the only part that is public knowledge is:

To think he won the decathlon in 1976, … and yet he is just now completing the Broad Jump

That’s not how it works. Professionalism isn’t dependent on whether or not someone else tattles first.

Maybe Jenner will change to a first name of Brenda and move to Brooklyn, and be more careful. We don’t want another Brenda transgenda fenda benda on the agenda.

Shodan

I’m tempted to lock the thread now, because that’s the perfect ending.

Then there are no professionals in the news business, since that’s exactly the formula they follow. And there have been other people on this very forum who have shared that they knew someone was gay due to some past meeting, but only telling us after they were out.

I’ve also seen people share insider information about how much people make, as well.

I see nothing Stoid has done that it unusual for this forum, and suggest the issue is personal feelings towards her.

I don’t know anything about Stoid beyond what was posted, but posting someone’s salary and what they did with it, when you learned it while working for them, is unprofessional no matter who does it.

It’s easy enough to look on celebrity net worth to see how much someone earns. It’s also public knowledge that Bruce is very into RC helicopters, and spends a lot on them. It was shown on their reality show that Kris was pissed that he spent so much money on them.

Out of the names that have stuck out to me (Shodan, John Stamos’ Left Ear, John Mace, Diogenes The Cynic etc) I can’t recall seeing Stoid’s username or associating it with anything that would prompt me to have a negative opinion of that person. That said, when I first read the post detailing his personal business dealings I too thought it was unprofessional.

Do you not get that different professions have different standards of professionalism? Reporters aren’t expected to be confidential, so when they share details of the lives of people whom they’ve generally never met, they are acting entirely within the acceptable bounds of their job. Personal assisstants (or what ever position stoid is claiming to have in regards to Jenner) are supposed to keep the details of the person they’re working for confidential. So when they run out and gossip to strangers about the intimate details of the person they worked for, it’s a massive breach of professional standards - possibly personal standards, too, depending on how close a relationship they formed with their employer. The two situations aren’t even remotely comparable, and I’m at an utter loss to see how you couldn’t figure that out on your own.

You said it better than I would have. The job of a professional reporter to reveal information. The job of a personal/financial assistant to keep information confident.

Personally, I don’t have a strong opinion about Stoid, one way or another. I think the criticism of her actions stands on its own merits. No one else in this thread is expressing opinions or facts based on private interactions with Bruce Jenner based on their professional relationship. Unless I missed it, of course.

Someone could also seek out the salary ranges on our company’s site and guess how much someone here makes. It’s still not the same as me volunteering that information on a message board, even years from now.

Difference of opinion; and when they tattle on themselves, it definitely makes a difference.

Not really. It’s about professional ethics.
