BSG - "Entertainment Weekly" article on new season

Looks like some cool stuff is afoot - but can they boost their ratings?

Have the ratings dropped? I can’t wait for the new season to start up. All the networks are scrambling to cash in on the success of Lost, yet the best match-up for that show is on the SciFi channel and started at about the same time!

When’s the official premier date in the U.S.? I may program my DVR since this show has been buzzing ever since it came out (oh, and because I finally have DVR…)

Friday, October 6.

Set your DVR to retain all episodes and then get the DVDs. There’s a hell of a lot going on; they’ll probably make an effort to keep the show accessible and catch-up-able but it’ll be a lot better if you get the backstory first. Watch the miniseries at least.

I second that – if possible, try to rent/buy/borrow the DVDs and get caught up before you start watching new episodes. It’s astoundingly good, but the plot and characters are quite intricate and you miss a lot if you don’t have the whole story. Take it from me; I started watching in the middle of last season and had a lot of catching up to do. I got addicted anyway, but I would have appreciated certain things a lot more if I’d known the whole history.

Double ditto to the above. Also, the Battlestar Wiki can be extremely helpful (and entertaining, if you’re aspiring to be a BG dork like myself). An awful lot has happened over the two seasons. Hell, a lot can happen in a single episode, and if you’re not caught up, you will, guaranteed, have many “wtf?” moments. Luckyily for the uninitiated, watching many episodes back-to-back on DVD with no commercials is by far the best way to watch this show, and you’ll have a blast. My wife really likes BG. She’s hooked. Okay? Do you know what an astonishing statement that is? It’s that good. Enjoy!
