Help with LOST

My brother and I have spent the summer watching Lost for the first time in anticipation of being able to watch the final season in real time. We’ve made it through the first four seasons, and now I have two questions:

  1. I’ve been reading the old Cafe Society threads for each episode that are so helpfully (seriously, that was an awesome idea!) linked in the OP of each new ep. thread. However, the season four threads stop with number 12, which was apparently a two- or three-parter when it aired, and the discussion seems to end after the first part. Is there another conversation? It seems utterly inexplicable that Dopers would have nothing else to say about the rest of the season finale, and I really love reading through all the old rumors and speculation.

  2. I’ve read that season 6 starts in January (I’m not sure if that is the beginning or the end of the month). However, according to Amazon, season 5 does not come out on dvd until Dec. 8. It has unknown availability on Netflix (presumably around the same time), and Hulu only has a couple of episodes. I’m worried that, with my brother working holiday retail hours and doing finals, we won’t have time to watch season 5 before the next one starts. Do I have any other options? I know abc.com has aired previous episodes; so they have the whole season or just the most recent episode(s)? It’s hard to google because I’m so afraid of being spoilered! I’ve made it four seasons without seeing anything that would ruin the surprise, and now I’m deathly afraid of clicking on a link and being greeted with some giant headline like “Season 5: Sawyer marries a Polar Bear!”

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can’t help a lot with that but I can tell you that Season 6 starts in February. So if you get the DVD you’ll have two months to watch it.

enalzi I don’t know where you’ve heard the season starts in Feb. The web site says Jan, and that’s what they’ve been saying since the season finale in May.

Netflix nearly always has DVDs available as of their official release date. The first of Dec I’d put it at the top of your queue and you should get the first disk easily enough, although be aware they will be in high demand so there may be a little wait. If you can get through the first 11 eps that way, then the rest are online via ABC/Hulu (although there is no telling if they’ll be yanked between now and then.) In the weeks running up to the new season, they always do a “catch up” show, and they usually rerun at least the season finale. Also, keep an eye on the ABC schedule after Nov sweeps, they may re-run the whole season.

Thanks, Claire Beauchamp, that’s a good idea to combine sources. I figure that netflix will have a run on the season, so it will help to be able to get some of them without waiting for the mail. I definitely want to see all of the episodes; it’s easy enough to miss stuff even with two of us watching everything together & rewinding for missed comments/ scene changes, etc.

Anyone have an idea if there’s more to the season finale thread?

Nevermind, guess I was wrong. Either way, judging by the last two seasons, it will start near the end of January.

Lost 4.13/14 “There’s no place like home” (season finale)

I found myself in a similar situation with the season 4 DVDs while season 5 was being aired. You will need to step up the viewing of the DVDs, but it can be done. ABC keeps like the most recent 5 or 6 episodes, so you have about a 5 week window to start in on season 6. After I finished the season 4 discs, I started catching up on season 5 via the website.

Thank you, MsWhatsit! And, cormac, while I know that’s true… I think I’m looking forward to getting to participate in Lost threads almost as much as I’m looking forward to finding out what the hell is going on.

It looks like ABC has the entire show online right now. Most of the shows only have five or six episodes, but Lost has been the exception for a couple of years now.

Is there a plot summary anywhere?

http://www.televisionwithpity.com has detailed recaps of every episode so far, if that’s what you’re asking for, glee/
