Actually, I lied. I actually did watch this week’s Buffy (it was the Angel/Dark Angel hour I went out during). I might be able to get a copy of the episode though…
Sorry, Heloise, didn’t mean to get your hopes up. (I really should be able to get a copy though.)
Bob, an archive is a good idea! But since I’ve only written 1 and a half other fan fics, I just put it on my web page for now instead. http://www.geocities.com/theevilwriter/bvs2011.html
It’s probably easier to read this way than with people’s comments(how it is on the message boards). I actually have no idea how I’m going to end it…
No animals have been harmed in the making of this fan fic. Unless of course, you consider poodles to be animals.
Out of curiousity, what do you guys think of BVS’s impending move to UPN? It will probably be the first, non-wrestling, hit they’ll ever have. Supposedly if the WB drops Angel, UPN will take it for two seasons too.
Personally I don’t mind UPN. If anything, UPN seems like it would be more appropriate. They have some show whose name I forget, but is basically a watered down, action version of X-Files, they also have ST: Voyager and, somewhere in their lineup, Jack of All Trades. All in all, they seem to be more friendly to the (not so) slightly schlocky action show type genre.
In that respect, UPN seems to make more sense to me, while WB will be reduced to their normal lineup of young adult melodrama.
It seems pretty much a non-event to me. They got the extra money they needed to give everyone the raises they deserved, but not much more, so we won’t be seeing any big change in production values, and no trips to Ireland like Joss wanted to do a few years back. As far as I’m concerned, it’s just on a different channel, that’s all.
While I’ve never been a big Tara fan (primarily due to her lack of characterization rather than any problems with the actress herself), the saddest part of the episode had to be the fact that her Heroic Stand™ of withstanding the torture and brain-sucking without spilling the beans about Dawn ended up being wasted, by her spilling the beans about Dawn after the brain-sucking. It’s like the whole sacrifice was pointless.
If the episode had lasted 5 more minutes, I wanted Willow to have the line “See? I did TOO last five minutes against Glory.” The fight went about as you would expect, Willow with the heavy offense to start, but eventually she ran out of stuff. Personally, being the fan of continuity that I am, I would have liked Willow, when she was struggling for new things to try, get as far as “Goddess Hecate do thy will” before getting knocked across the room.
But what do I know. I’m convinced that Spike’s chip hasn’t worked for months, he’s just suffering from Pavlovian effects.
Excellent point about Spike.
After all, when Drucilla came back he DID feed on a human at the Bronze. Maybe his love for Buffy combined with the previously mentioned Palovian response is keeping him in check for the moment.
Riley’s returning? UGH! I never believed the Riley/Buffy storyline… but I could believe Buffy/Spike.
I thought that that was where they were going when the doctor pretended to take the chip out. I thought that the chip WAS out, but he got phantom pain when he actually tried to eat Buffy. Notice how he was able to do things in that episode that would have caused him pain prior to that episode (he was punching Buffy full-power).
I was looking forward to a series of episodes where he had to slowly desensitize himself to the violence.
What I don’t get, though, is why did she suddenly start talking about it the instant Glory showed up? Didn’t she notice before? Or does the Key glow brighter in Glory’s presence?
One idea on this that I have thought up is that the Key’s glowing becomes more obvious during times of high stress. Everytime a crazy person has mentionned it has been at a time of high stress. Once outside the magic shop when a body had just been found, once in the hospital while her mother was dealing with brain cancer, and now when Glory shows up. Maybe Tara didn’t mention it until then because it didn’t show until then. Just a thought.
On another note, does anybody know why the heck (besides the fact that it’s funny as hell and useful to boot) Spike is falling in love w/ Buffy? I mean, is it masochism or what?
[sub]Not that you need much of an excuse to fall in love with her, but still…[/sub]
I have it on tape, but my best friend who doesn’t have cable gets first dibs. Drop me an e-mail if you still want to see it in a couple of weeks. I’d be more than happy to send it express to wherever you live.
Spike kills the women he loves, and loves the women who try to kill him. He is a hopeless romantic who lost his soul. In order to kill the slayer, he has to develop a kinship to her, which translates to love. He still wears badges from the two slayers he killed: The scar on his eyebrow from the Chinese Slayer, and the coat from the one in New York. Spike has a whole “Tragic Love” paradigm. (Remember, they call him Spike because he killed victims with railroad spikes; but he killed people with railroad spikes because they hury his feelings by saying that his poetry “was so bad it made one prefer a railroad spike through their head”)
Well, Late that seems like as good a theory as any to me, especially as how I only started watching BtVS regularly recently and thus didn’t see anything of Spike before the last season or two.
Spike is totally a hopless romantic. Did you ever see his interact with Dru, or be all depressed over her leaving him?
Thisis just a theory and not one I’m very behind about why Spike is in lovr with Buffy: Angel took Dru away from him, and now he needs to take Angel’s woman (which she is).
I think it’s mostly obsession for killing her crossing the fine line into obsession for her because of his loneliness.
Whatever happened to Harmony? I think she also disappeared while my VCR was in the process of crapping out…
And when was Dru ever Angel’s girl? I know that he turned her, but I thought that, um, the vamp that turned him (and recently got resurrected in Angel was his girl). As you can see, I’ve missed large parts of the BtVS continuity including, sadly, all the Spike/Angel(?)/Dru stuff.
Yes, Darla was his sire, his lover for over a hundred years. But Angel was making moves on Dru when Spike was in a wheelchair, when he was Angelus after he slept with Buffy. Because he felt he was losing Dru to Angel, he made an alliance with Buffy that eventually got Dru to leave him.
There were lots of examples, like Angel talking to Spike while he was in the chair:
“If there’s ANYTHING you want me to do… (looks at Dru)… Anything I’m not already doing…”
