If Chloe Zhao turned out to be a poor match for Buffy, I can think of a director who could rework the pilot episode over a weekend and bring it in both on time and under budget.

I think there are simply too many television show revivals, reboots and the like. And most suck.
This will be pretty strange if Firefly, also from Whedon originally, announced some form of continuation or sequel.
They are due to tell us tomorrow and have been hinting.

C.f. the Frasier and Quantum Leap efforts, as such. To utterly fail to get David Hyde Pierce and Scott Bakula onboard before someone decided to revive them, even as guest stars, was a major mistake. Here I’m not sure who else could have come along other than Sarah Michelle but fans want to see the actors who made the originals work, Willow and Xander at a minimum tho Angel is a vamp so David B. would be too old now.

Meanwhile, Scrubs has worked great so far. Also a lot of the original cast is back.
The Night Court revival, like Frazier, not so good.
For what it is worth he was also too old to play a Navy SEAL but he did that role for seven seasons. At least in the Buffy-verse they can say he has some magical affliction that is causing him to age.
Well, he’s a vamp with a soul so maybe they could come up with some rationale why having a soul would make him age. OK, I admit that’s kind of stupid, but since it would also mean they could bring back James Marsters as Spike I’d let it slide.
Wasn’t it implied Angel and friends died in the last episode? They were outnumbered and went into a suicide attack.
I think if you watch the show only, probably. However, Angel continued in the comics and he survived.
Well, I probably wasn’t actually going to watch it because I already subscribe to Netflix and don’t feel like adding any additional streaming services to the list of things I’m paying for. But I was rooting for this one to succeed, nonetheless.
Ugh. I didn’t even know this was happening, and here I am sad to learn it was and then wasn’t.
In the show, Angel became mortal at least once that I can recall. So I don’t see what would prevent them from doing that - or anything else supernatural that they could dream up - for the revival.
Same here. I was a huge BtVS nut, very involved in the fanfic community.

I’m glad it fell through. Buffy and Angel were lightning in a bottle - there’s no way the magic can be replicated, at least, not without… as much as it pains me to say it, they were Joss. You can’t separate them from him, and i wouldn’t want anyone to try.
Let’s have new creative people spend their energy creating new words we can be fans of instead of rehashing old ones.
