Building an ark in the MMP

It’s amazing what a good sleep does for a body! I crashed early as expected and was out till my bladder woke me just before 4. Then back to sleep till nearly 6. Sunrise is 7:38, so almost an hour anna half to go. It’s in the mid 50s right now with high in the low 80s forecast.

Higgs has been thru her morning routine. FCD took his morning meds, then went back to bed. I ate and I’m caffeinating. Thus beginneth the day. I plan to make N.O.T. soup and ribs for supper. No other plans for today yet.

Daughter made a countdown calendar. 18 days to go…

Happy Wednesday!!!

Forgot to mention - There are multiple foundations formed or poured along the fence behind the inlaws’ house. When they bought this house 20 years ago, it bordered a cow pasture. Now it’s going to be filled with suburban Floridians and their spawn. No longer quiet. But they still won’t consider moving.

And a widow down the street died and wasn’t found for 3 weeks. Her dogs were also dead but the cat survived by eating her hands. Another reason I wouldn’t live in a retirement community - people always dying.

Gee, happy thoughts for a happy day… :stuck_out_tongue:

Good morning everyone.

I had another busy day; nothing new there. It was wet and gusty yesterday and today looks to be more of the same.

I may go hiking on Saturday. The friend I was out with a couple of weekends ago, asked if I would be willing to go and I said yes. She wants to take her dog, so I left it to her to find a dog-friendly trail. She was going to research and get back to me. I hope the weather is decent on Saturday.

I can’t say I much else going on. Hugs, yays, and boos where appropriate.

{ checks pulse }

Oh, good. Wasn’t me.

{ eyes Monkey suspiciously }

Morning all. I don’t think I wouldn’t be discovered for 3 weeks, but might take a week or so before anyone finds my body; at least no cats to munch on my remains…

Paper has been retrieved from the driveway. Need to do a little banking and shopping today, and then have my Pfizer booster scheduled for 4pm. Rain due tonight, tomorrow and Friday, so looks like soccer may be spoiled for this weekend.

Ok, onward into the day.

Aye, there’s the rub. The fridge is blocking the oven door so we can’t reheat stuff in the oven. The microwave oven is on the living room floor. I do have access to a couple of elements on the stove. But it’a been take-out for dinner the last two nights.

Having some chicken broth for breakfast, just because that’s what I wanted at this moment!

Have a small mountain of laundry heaped up, but have to be at irk in an hour & I don’t want it sitting damp all day. We’ll see if I get ambitious enough tonight.

I also, despite having washed a bunch of dishes, STILL have more bowls and pans in the sink. That’s what I get for cooking food, harrumph!

We haven’t decided yet. Our real favourite was the old Imperial Palace but that’s been redeveloped and is off the list. Previous stays have been either Harrah’s or the Flamingo, or in the old town at Main Street Station. We need to be in Vegas at the House of Blues on new year’s day but other than that, we are flexible. Currently pondering the logistics of car rental and a drive out to Monument Valley for a couple of days, or possibly a stay in either Page or Sedona. We stayed in Page back in 2017 and fitted in visits to Lower Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and Goblin Valley State Park but that was on a trip from Phoenix to Denver.

The dark chocolate peppermint candies at Trader Joe’s are divinely inspired also. I always buy two boxes~one for me, one for everybody else.

Trader Joe’s dark chocolate oranges are delicious, too, though it sounds like I’ve got some more candies to try. Time to get to work trying.

nellie you may or may not be very proud of me. I asked the doctor to fit me for contacts as an experiment (evidently it’s a free trial) and it turns out that I’m squicky about other people touching my eyeballs but not so much me touching my eyeballs. So I’ve got 'em in, but they’re definitely not as clear as glasses, so I doubt this will be permanent. Also, it took me stabbing myself in the eye more times than I’d like to admit to successfully apply them to said eyeballs.

I discovered this morning that sriracha is delicious on avocado toast (yes, I’m one of those people, as my mom would say). I want more but I’ve run out of avocados. Time to engage the instant pot for some palak dahl (spinach & spicy lentils).

Happy Hump Day!

Got the dogs off to daycare. My son went with me so he could hang onto them.
It was packed today and I thought wtf? Today is Halloween picture day.
The daycare has added a blue and gold macaw to the lobby. It scared the crap out of me when it started squawking. They also had a cat on the counter. Fortunately, my dogs never noticed it.
There was a dog in there that looks like their friend Buttercup and Echo wanted to play. So embarrassing, because her wanting to play sounds like she wants to rip you to pieces.

Ordering pizza for lunch/dinner. The neighbor gave my son a bunch of dominoes gift cards for helping in her yard.
Just got here.

I can attest that Chihuahua’s have no shame and great ambition. If Pixel were equipped to impregnate Akiko, he would have done it.

According to their website, they should have the right address, since we filed an address forwarding form with the post office. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with this. Less paper re-fi my Aunt Fanny.

Yoshi is on my bad dog list - he got carried away playing with Akiko and slammed into my face with his skull. He didn’t break my nose (YAY) but I have bruising on my cheek and I may end up with a black eye. Stoopit puppy.

Akiko is like that too. She sounds horrible, but she’s just playing.

I may do Instant Pot pot roast tonight. I have the ingredients ready to go. I just need to see how my haid is doing at dinner time.

I am so grumpy about re-fi, but we’ll get through it. Just had to grump one more time. Onwards.

Oy. My cousin’s son and his fiancee have finally set a wedding date: end of May. In Vegas. I was hoping they’d choose a cooler time of year or that they’d elope. I don’t do well with heat and sun and having been there twice, I know Vegas isn’t my cup of joe. Waaaah, I don’t wanna gooooooo, but my cousin will be PISSED if any of us send regrets.

I’ve already promised to go a wedding on the East Coast in June. I’m a little worried about the expenses. I was hoping to see my daughter this summer and counting on seeing other family in Chicago. Can’t do it all, though. Oo! BooFae, how’d you like to take your Vegas trip in May?

That story is seriously disturbing, Moooooom. I’m trying to imagine the shelter ad for those cats: “Independent, resourceful kitties looking for new home. Love to chew. Prefer handy owners.”

Shoe, I think checking your pulse requires both hands, so you were already in the clear.

I hope you ate something before work. Chicken broth doesn’t really count, energy wise.

I used a palm sander to attempt to smooth out the textured wall. (Unfortunately, no drywall on this side. Not sure what it is, but the wall behind the stove was formica when we were doing stuff back there.) I got the texture off of the area above the doorway, and part of the wall. SWMBO said to screw it; it’s too much work and is too messy. Fine by me. No one is going to see the wall next to the fridge anyway, except the few inches by the door.

She wants to paint the whole wall all at once, rather than painting the fridge side first. She says we’ll need to let the mud dry all day tomorrow. If she wants to paint on Friday, I hope she remembers we have movie tickets for an early show. I’ve moved the fridge back so we can use the stove.

If you see those mini cups of avocado (or guacamole) in the refrigerated section by the produce, just know that they freeze beautifully, and can be thawed whenever you need a bit of smashed avocado in your life. Or on your toast.

Yes, dear!

Brought home a bunch of bread that was juuuust starting to go south - no longer fit for a restaurant to serve to paying customers. But perfectly good rat food.

… plus a brisket taco for myself, that got left off an order by accident & then sat around in the warmer for too long.

Nothing fancy, but hey, free is free!

One of the assistant managers (not crushy-poo, sadly, but a friend of his) told me straight up today that I’m one of the best cashiers, reliable & accurate, and that he doesn’t have to worry about front of house stuff when I’m up there while he’s on managerial duty.

I genuinely appreciated hearing that, and told him so.
I’ve come a long way since I started - literally never worked a fryer before, now I can operate six baskets at once - so a tiny, quiet little part of me was like, “Damn straight! I AM good at my job!”

But it was nice to get external validation.

Someone brought coffee the other day, and leftovers have been in the veg walk-in. I had two cups, not long before leaving (hello, 5 p.m. caffeine! you’re a good idea!!) and will hopefully ride this extra energy enough to accomplish … something.

A couple of rat tubs sorely need to be turned out into fresh bedding.
Or there’s { ugh } the dishes, or { double ugh } the Guv’mint Paperwork Project.

So many fun options! :upside_down_face:

I vote ratties. There you go. I’m glad to help. :stuck_out_tongue:

Second the vote for the ratties. Aside from being living things that you can make happier, the cute should cheer you up a bit.

What entertainment while shopping shoe!

Irked, came home, had a bowl of soup and am fixing to do KP.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

To commemorate the occasion of me giving free advice, I moved the shoe rack in my closet. I’m trying to get things done by inches. I think I’ll start humming the ant/banana plant song.

I vote ratties too!
