Bumps in the night - a noisy house MMP

Bad again. Started getting hot flashes and more pain when I was picking up Sweetie. Took medicine and went to bed at 130. Woke up at 630 with the intense feeling that I had swallowed glass…and it stuck. Fell back asleep with a cough drop in my mouth. Thankfully the glass feeling has gone away but I feel like steamrolled shit.
Sweetie’s dad is gonna help us out today. We need to drop the car off with Dr. Firestone but we don’t have any way to get back. So he’s gonna provide a ride and stop at the big orange box on the way back to get tar and plexiglass.
I am going to spend the day in bed with Sweetie’s laptop and my homework…assuming the cold medicine lets me do any.

Oooh, teakettles? Amazon has too many to choose from. I like this All-clad one and it genrally gets good reviews, but this one has some details that might argue against it. This one from Le Creuset is also pretty, but the whistle is apparently not very loud.

This site has some cool ones, too. (Although the results seem to vary every time you go there.) I especially liked some of the glass ones, kinda like the one in the link.

Feel better soon, shortdrum!

So, anyway, I’m up now and off to do garden clean-up.

Hugs.

GT

Feel better shortdrum!

StickyBuns is that homework done yet? I didn’t think so. March yourself in there and get busy! The sooner you get started the sooner you get done. It’s not going to do itself you know. Don’t give me that look! You want your face to freeze like that? Now march in there and get busy. Not a peep out of you until you’re done, young lady!

I live to inspire.

I’m off to the church house for marathon cookin’ shortly.

Y’all behave while I’m gone. No feet on the furniture. Don’t eat all the cookies Ashes[sup]2[/sup], they’re for everybody not just you.

Bye!

Alllllllllllll righty, folkses!!! I’m here - let the peasants rejoice!

We slept in till some time past 8:30, then decided to go to Waldork to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Then we ran by Petco to see if they had a particular fish food we need - they didn’t. They had a bunch of black and white kittehs for adoption (black kittehs or white kittehs, not bicolor) and they were very cute, but two is enough for us… for now… **FCD **is in his shop futzing with stuff. I’m going to read my comics, then finish the little afghan for daughter’s friend’s new bebeh.

It’s rainy and cold and windy and ick, with freezing temps predicted for tonight. Perfect day to bake - I see a pineapple upside down cake in our future. But mostly, I see a lazy day. Yay!

Happy Saturday!

I’d really like to have a lazy day today, but alas and alack, it is not to be. I’ve got errands to run and this evening we’re going to a friend’s house to celebrate another friend’s birthday. One of those errands is getting cash to cover our share of our friend’s group gift. The last time we gave a check to our friend, and she hung on to it forever before cashing it. It drove me nuts, so I’m must going to give her $116.00 cash today (our share of the gift). Four people splitting the cost of it.

My daughter just posted on FB that she received a speeding ticket. She was doing 20 over the limit on the freeway. She had become frustrated with some left lane vigilantees and finally had the chance to pass them, so she gunned it. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t see the Washington State Patrol up on the bridge. :frowning:

Today: light housework, visiting a friend for a wee tipple, airport to get the kid and kid in law from their honeymoon.

Tomorrow: gym, football, chili.

Yay me!

At the Public Market again today. Wifey has gone in search of coffee. I had a couple of veggie cupcake kinda low carb things out of the South Beach diet cookbook for breakfast, and I’m starving. I can smell the food carts starting up outside the window.

Y’all cheer up, and stop being sick, right now!

Otherwise Ima tell you all about my health problems. :stuck_out_tongue: That’ll larn ya!

Tylenol cold medicine (the blue stuff) works really well. I still feel sick but I feel like I have a cold and not like I’m on death’s door. I can live with this.
We got tar and I got magnets (magnety christmas decorations!) but we didn’t get plexiglass and we couldn’t find empty caulk tubes. I found some online though. Of course, it started snowing as we were driving home. The temp on route 20 was 38°. By the time we finished the drive home (and up our very big hill), the temp was 32° and the snow/rain mix was all snow. It has been snowing for an hour and I’d guess that we have 1/2" or more already. Oy. Didn’t get to tar the roof or clean the gutters or rake the leaves but we DID get all the storm windows in and the house is nice and cozy now and the heat hasn’t even kicked on. Sweetie is cleaning the ash in the fireplace so he can make a nice fire and I loaded up the wood rack in the living room. I can’t see me getting any school work done today (I just don’t want to dammit!) but I fully intend to relax and maybe make a present for my mom’s birthday. I already made her 2 bracelets but I think I’ll make her a sock monkey magnet (she collects sock monkeys).

The car is at Dr. Firestone and is waiting for tomorrow.
Sweetie just pulled some kindling off the wood rack and said, “That man has awesome kindling making skills. I’m in awe.” (he was talking about the firewood guy, who always leaves us with kindling for the first fire). I said, “um, I made that kindling. Didn’t ya hear me whacking away with the splitter?” LOL Now he’s in awe of MY kindling making abilities.

It’s funny watching him try to make a fire because every time he turns his back, one of the dogs steals his kindling.

The lawn guy’s brother and a helper came over this morning, and they’re halfway done demolishing the front chimney. I’ve never used the fireplace in my bedroom, and AFAIK it hasn’t been used in decades. Old ivy vines had grown on it and had been killed, so there were some thick trunks adhering to the chimney with a rat’s nest of dead vineage on top. definitely a fire hazard if the fireplace had been used. The problem is that the round river rocks cemented to the outside were falling off. The chimney was crumbling. The outside of it, anyway. And the deterioration of the brick core at the top was letting water in when it rains. It’s time for it to come down.

Fortunately the part that’s been demolished so far is on the outside of the house. No framing to do. They’re down to the bit that opens into the fireplace now. They’ll have to frame it and sheet it. All the noise is scaring the hell out of the cat… Ah, they’re back from lunch. They’re knocking mortar again. (‘Daniel’ lives in the area, so his wife made lunch for them.) The place where the chimney went through the roof will need to be repaired. I hope they can do it quickly, as it’s supposed to rain tomorrow.

In other news I moved the rest of the wild cherry logs from where they were piled in the back yard to the patio. Got a pyramid about five feet on a side, similar to the last stack I made. I tell you, that wood is heavy! I was disappointed that the roomie didn’t come out and yell, ‘Hey, you woodchuck! Stop chuckin’ mah wood!’ But she’d already made a joke about my paying for someone to get my rocks off (the chimney).

Also, the middle bedroom is about ready to be painted. Next week we’ll go to Ikea and pick up some wood laminate flooring. Should take 5.2 boxes for the about 125 sq. ft. room. Roomie got my chop saw out of storage (bless her!). I just need a dry place to use it. There’s just enough room under the patio roof, I think. Anyway, the flooring should be done in a day once we get started on it. Or once I get started on it. I’m not really sure it’s a two-person job. (The flooring in the little bedroom wasn’t.)

And there are biscuits in the oven and creamed chipped beef on the stove.

The house smells pineapplicious!! One upside-down cake is cooling in the kitchen. Supper may be pizza, just to make it easy. I’ve got enough points for a freebie from PapaJohn’s, so I may go that route.

**Johnny **- are you getting a new flue insert, or just repairing what exists? We’ve been thinking about doing the new flue, but on 2 fireplaces, it may be prohibitive. That’s the sucky part of being retired - budgeting is a lot tougher. Oh well…

It’s still drizzly and icky. **FCD **just finished a water change, so the fishies have 20% clean water. I’m sure they’re happy. Scruffy, on the other hand, is not happy. Starting between 3 and 3:30, she whines and barks and begs to be fed. I don’t know what started all this - dinner for her has been 4:30 forever. She’s really going to be a pain in the patoot when we set the clocks back. Stoopit dog.

I’m getting rid of it entirely. I’ve no use for a fireplace in my bedroom. Right now I’m just having the chimney demolished, and the hole where it goes into the house sheeted over. Now that I have incentive (though not much time), there are a lot of projects to do. My bedroom is last. I’ll demolish the interior part of the fireplace when the time comes to re-do the room. That would be a good wall for bookshelves.

When I got the new wood-burning stove a few years ago I had a new ‘liner’ put in. I assume that’s the flue insert, but I’m not sure. The entire job comprising the cost of a new (EPA rated!) Napoleon wood-burning stove with a glass front and thermostatically-controlled fan, delivery, installation, interior masonry, exterior masonry, the new ‘liner’, and permit came to about $6,500.

I should buy a quarter-cord of wood for Winter. Maybe half a cord. That cherry tree isn’t going to be dry enough to burn until next year. I’m going to move the biggest part of the stump to the patio and use it as a chopping block. Based on the 30-foot branch that came down in 2007, I think I may need to buy a wedge and a sledge. It’s a bit tiring chopping the wood with an axe.

Pizza and pineapple upside-down cake? Can I come?

Oh, that’s right. Can’t. Sick. Damn flu.

mmmmmmmmm…pineapple…jealoussssssss

Made a fridge magnet for Sweetie. It’s Commander Vimes’ badge (from Discworld) - he has the same as a tattoo. Just need to cook it and glaze it then I can take a pic.
Nose is running and I just dropped my ginger ale on the floor.

PapaJohn is making supper. I’ve already made dessert. Stop by if you’d like some!

Notice I say that when **BBBobbio **had bambilance duty…

Off to fetch supper.

No,** swampy**, I haven’t even started it yet. Ha!

So far today I’ve managed to feed Bubba twice, run to the drugstore, and make cheesy potatoes.* I really am going to start reading my journal articles right after dinner so that I can come up with some kind of summary tonight. When that’s all finished I’ll make some chocolate bread pudding.

*I may have started a new trend, I accidentally used frosted flakes instead of plain corn flakes. Oops! :smack:

My home was built in the 1850s or so when the railroad came through the our area by The PRR Co as a place for the workers to live during the railroads construction. My house tells me all the time that many owners only thought they knew what they were doing.

Sweetie’s magnet to match his tattoo.

Sorry - kept forgetting to answer this. What we had was fresh kielbasa, that is, not smoked. My understanding is that kielbasa is the Polish word for sausage. And there are various kinds - I remember my dad loved something called blood sausage, which was a kind of kielbasa that included pork blood in the meat and seasonings mixture. I could never get past the name, so I’ve never had it.

The kind we had was ground pork and seasonings in a casing. I boil it for about 45 minutes, slice it into thick rings, and serve it with mustard and/or horseradish. Another variation is to take the water that it was boiled in, add sliced onion and sauerkraut and the sliced sausage, and heat through. I like it more than my spousal unit, so I don’t make it that much. But it’s yum!

And pizza was yum - especially since it was free! I had enough Papa Points for a freebie. Yay! As soon as it digests enough to make room, I’ll be tasting the cake.

Temps have dropped into the 30s. Thank goodness for the replacement windows we got last year - they really keep it warm in here. The furnace has kicked on a couple of times, but not for too long. We can’t have a fire because I didn’t think to bring in some wood yesterday, and today, it’s soaking wet. SMRT, huh? I’ll get some into the garage later this week when it dries out some more.

I guess that’s it for today. I’m going to log off and assume the knit position.

Checking in, so you don’t worry.

They pre-stick the note to the box so if they have to fill it up it’s easy to do (the data is right there), but since you were home he didn’t need to fill it up, but there was no reason to retrieve the note itself and since he’s got the manners of a slug he didn’t bother call.

At a guess.
And why am I awake at midnight? Well, I have a dripping cold courtesy of a coworker whose kid just started kindergarten, plus my neighbor took a shower at 23:30, plus right now I’m hearing the bedamned trash trucks. Good thing I ended up deciding not to go to my house this weekend, because with the cold I would have been totally nonproductive anyway.

Oh, and sticking some pork back cuts and raw tomato sauce in a pan in the oven for 15’, then adding broccoli on top and switching it off may not be haute cuisine but that’s ok, I’m a low kitchen kind’a gal.
FCM, instead of blood sausage just call it morcilla. Someone with love handles has morcillas and is morcillón (bet they didn’t teach you that in class, people!)
