Cake Day - A Sweet Treat in the MMP

I present: CAT BUTTS!! And flowers, too.
Imgur
I’m going to make some orange and yellow cat butts, too, and I don’t know what else - I just took a break to take the pics.

I’m hoping I can sell sets of 4 for $5 - this is a fundraiser for my daughter’s school. I figure $5 is a good stocking-stuffer price. Or do you think I’m undervaluing? I’ve been told I don’t charge enough for the stuff I make (specifically my pottery, but I still wonder…)

OK, back to the yarn.

Wouldn’t that be Pennsylvania?? My mom lives near Jarrettsville and I know she’s not to far from PA. OK, back to work.

FCM I think you’re under-charging. I’d double it, go with 4 for $10. Your time is worth something.

For all the news about NY getting 6 feet of snow, it’s bright and sunny here. I was contemplating a trip up the lake to drop some pieces at the gift store, but I’m not sure where the snow line starts. So instead, I think I’ll make cheesecake for thanksgiving. I couldn’t find the chocolate wafers I usually make the crust with, but I did see some salted caramel wafers to try. Ok, now to find the springform pan…wonder where I put that?

I know, but these go together so fast - like maybe 15 minutes each? Would you pay $10 for 4 crocheted coasters? I don’t think I would, even for a fundraiser. Then again, I’m frugal…

I haven’t been on the SDMB for years (so long that I’m no longer a member) and was very happy to see that there’s still a MMP with some of the same posters I remember from back in the day. That is very sweet.

And on topic, am I the only one who just heard of a piecaken?

Welcome back julzology. Settle back in and regale us with mundane pointless things. And I have never heard of a piecaken either…bet it would go well with turducken…

FCM, 4 for $5 seems fair, but I’m cheap, so others may have better opinions. But they do look nice. As does Roxy.

It’d in last place you put it, of course…

Oopsie, hope Bailey keeps adding weight and the dealership starts acting responsiblity…I usually try to go in early so they can’t use that excuse on me.

Did go to the gym but had any decision about swimming taken out of my hands as all the lanes were full. So 30 minutes in the whirlpool and 30 more in the sauna along with a good shower did the trick. Then went to Wal-Mart for some shopping and now home. Still got some gunk to clear out of my sinus, but feel good again.

ON, thinking about a Salad Bowl for mid-day, then some Fettuchini for dinner, so it’ll be a meatless Saturday (but a Carnivore Sunday for sure). Take care all.

Howdy Y’all! I did not make it over to partake of pee-kahn rollin’. I kinda sorta forgot and by the time it occurred to me it was already two-thirty (the time when you go to the dentist) so I did not go. Oh well, all that sloth ain’t gonna sloth itself, ya know!

MOOOOOOM I think that’s a fair price. I am also cheap thrifty so I would not want to pay any more than that.

VanGo if you can;t find your springform pan, go buy another one. Then when you get back home, you will immediately find the springform pan you already had. It works every time!

julz welcome back! We must know of the wonder of piecaken, so please come back and tell!

It is 5pm. When I left the barn at 4pm the temp was 27F and the real feel was 11F. The wind is straight out of the west at 20 mph. In other words, it’s COLD. Ariel was full of herself and I felt like I was on top of a powder keg. She has a 5 acre pasture and all day to run. But noooooo, she’d rather nibble on what’s left of the grass and save her energy for ride time.

One of my old coaches used to say that the horses would get the wind up their tails - if you get the drift. It was no fun riding on those days.

She lurrrrves you. :racehorse:

@purplehorseshoe Hey now. I’m getting worried. Can you send up a flare please? You don’t have to say much. We just want to know you’re ok.

oopsie, I feel ya on the dealership issues. The dealership where I bought my car had issues with both the quality of their work and the time wait, so when they moved to the other side of the 'Boro, I began using one that I trusted in the town where I used to live.

Moooooom, the cat butts are cute, but I like the sunflowers better. While $5 doesn’t make you much money per hour, this is for charity and it is a stocking stuffer price. When I donate crafts to charity, I figure out how many hours + price of materials that I want to donate and go from there. Organizations that I’m more interested in tend to get a bigger donation in kind.

Picked up the prescriptions and took Nelson to the dog park for ~half an hour. I stopped at Dollar Tree to pick up the materials for candy cane reindeer, but the lines for registers were clear to the back to the back of the store. Nah…I’ll go during church time tomorrow if I don’t find everything but the candy canes here at home (Aldi has candy canes and if I look, I can find mini-pompoms, wiggle eyes and chenille stems in the kid box). Since I’m going to my niece’s new home and her daughter just moved to a house with her boyfriend, I thought I’d take them part of their childhoods. When they were kids, part of the Turkey day festivities involved sitting around the table after the meal with the kids, me and SIL to make them. We even made a tradition of making a few mutant ones.

Happy Saturday!

It was a cold 25 feels like 20 degrees at the park this morning.
Toe warmers really make a difference in comfort.

We left early because Cerby wouldn’t stop barking. I’m not sure why he is barking, just running inside the pavilion barking. The other dogs, including Echo, are chasing and playing, and he runs in circles barking.
Tomorrow, we’ll remember the no-bark collar.
I told my son, there is something off about Cerby, I can’t quite put my finger on it.
He is low on his meds, so I’m going to call the vet Moonday and set up an appointment for him. Ripple is due for his checkup too, and he has a hotspot? under his elbow. It gets raw, sometimes bleeds a little, then heals up, then gets raw again. It would probably help if Echo left it alone, but she licks it all the time.
Cerby is sleeping on the bed now. He likes to sleep on my legs, which is not comfortable for me. He is also a very gassy dog.

All y’all talking about your holiday plans make me feel lazy. I suppose I should check with everybody else and see what is up. Thanksgiving used to be my favorite holiday.

I looked up piecaken, and my first thought was, ‘my mother would love this, I should send her one’.

I like the catbutt coasters. I would pay $5. Probably not $10, even though I’m sure they are worth it, but I’m cheap.
Roxy is a cutie.

My time to change the oil light came on in the truck. I don’t know why, I had it changed in the spring, and I drive less than 5000 miles a year. We don’t have to make an appointment at the dealership, just drive in and wait. I’ll call ahead anyway. That can get added to the Moonday stuff, like calling the vet and picking up groceries.
Then my son goes back to irk.

My son joined us in the pavilion this morning, and didn’t even say hi to his boss. I told him, say hi to your boss, and she laughed and said she’s not really his boss anymore. She’s his boss’s boss’s boss. I think. She’s high up in management.

My son’s new laptop has a lit-up keyboard. He played around with it for a bit and chose red lights. He says he’s tired of them though and is going to turn the lights off completely.

I guess it’s gotten cold enough for Adam to bring himself into the house now. Usually, my son has to carry him in because of Cerby.
I’m dreading going out tomorrow, it’s supposed to be even colder.

That is the exact reason I own 3 springform pans. I did track 2 down, not sure how many cheesecakes I’m making yet.

Nice flowers! The cat butts are too visceral for me–I start smelling cat poop. Cute, though.

I don’t recognize your name - were you someone else back in the day?

The way I see this, I just spent $30 for yarn, not counting my remaining stash from other projects. I assume there will be future fundraisers, so I’ll use it all up on projects over the years. I hope. I don’t count my time for anything since I’m just sitting in front of the TV anyway. Now, if I was selling to make money for me, my point of view would likely be different.

My car guy recommends twice a year if I don’t meet the mileage - sounds like that’s how your truck is programmed. FWIW, I consider oil changes to be cheap insurance, certainly an important maintenance item. I’m convinced it’s why my van went 235000 miles with minimal issues.

Pulled poke is in the basement fridge, still in the crock. I’ll put it in the slo-cooker a couple of hours before the party starts. Daughter et al will come over around 11 tomorrow, giving us 2 hours to get things set up. I’ll get the fire going when they get here to take the chill out of the room. FCD will say hi, then hide in his shop. He’s not much into kids’ b-day parties.

I’ve made 28 cat butts and I’m starting on some more flowers. After the holidays, I’m going to do the finger puppets. And maybe some more hats… or I’ll look for other projects. The event is Dec 3, so not a lot of time. But what else do I have to do? Oh, yeah, Secret Santa…

Time to turn off this machine for the day. MWAH!!

The term isn’t familiar to me, but sounds intriguing. Please explain?

Welcome (back) to the madhouse.

julz, the piecaken looks interesting.

sari, I’m like Mooooooom on the oil change light. If I haven’t hit 5K miles in six months, mine will come on too.

A reasonable heave, a good nap, and a saketini later, here I am.

Indeed! and nifty cat butt coasters.

I’ve heard of it. And welcome back!

We’re officially on vaccination. Not leaving 'til Monday though.

:people_hugging:

I was really wondering what cat butt coasters would look like, and now I understand. Very cute.

Regarding snowflakes - I have purple snowflake coasters at work, which is a nice wintery touch, without being red or green (and white - well, that’s just asking for trouble).

My sister-in-law crochete square coasters from hemp thread, which she said was rather difficult to work with. For some reason she only made three, which confused hubby and I. He thought there were 2, and I thought there were 4 and thought I lost one. Rather relieved I hadn’t. They look similar to these.

This week was another rather busy week. Monday was a concert in Zurich, which meant we spent the night there. Tuesday was a work dinner event and Thursday we had another event in the evening. We made an early night of it on Friday.

Today I’ve been a bit more industrious. Emptied the fridge, two drawers, and three shelves of expired items. Ended up with 20 empty spice jars, some which had been expired for more than 5 years. Oops. Some I had barely touched, and no longer had much scent. I have a few marginal items, which expired earlier this year, so I’ll use them up.

This means the kitchen is still a bit of a mess, as I emptied out the baking drawer which had probably at least a tablespoon’s worth of granulated sugar along the bottom. So it’s open to dry, plus the drawer liner is drying separately.

Then we’ll go for a walk and move the last items before the workers come tomorrow and make a bit of a mess.

I am another pie lover, but I’ll make a major dent in an angel food cake. I save egg whites in the freezer just so I can make one from scratch. I have a recipe which uses a loaf pan, which is perfect, so I don’t have to have a silly pan just for an angel food cake.

I tend towards cakes with fruit/vegetable, such as banana, carrot, apple, pear, blueberry, etc. Chocolate cake is often disappointingly dry and is often “balanced” with goopy frosting.

My dad is almost fully recoved from Covid, and my mom’s making progress. Might ruin their Thanksgiving plans, though, because they’re planned to have Thanksgiving with another couple, and she has surgery planned at the beginning of December. My parents will be outside the 10 day period, and it’s unlikely they will be contagious, but they really want to make sure that they don’t infect anyone.

I’ve heard of piecaken, but I’m certainly not going to make one. I don’t even bake as much as I used to, as I used to always bring stuff to work. There aren’t enough people in the office, so home-baked goods don’t get eaten that fast. If I was at a place where I could get a slice, I would definitely order one.

And despite the weather forecast to the contrary, it’s sunny outside!

Happy Sunday!
