Cake Day - A Sweet Treat in the MMP

Happy Friday!

Another cold morning at the park, 32 feels like 26.
I need to buy some waterproof gloves. Jax wants me to throw the ball for him, and it doesn’t take long for my gloves to get soaked with drool. Wet gloves are not warm gloves.

We got in some more driving practice this morning. It is slow going. We went to another parking lot and I made him do figure 8’s. Twenty minutes of figure 8’s. Very crooked figure 8’s. How hard is it to make evenly round and evenly spaced figure 8’s?

I’m a little upset with Cerby’s behavior this morning.
I was sitting on the bench and he had his front paws in the bench and I was petting him. Barky mom was petting him and talking to him when he started showing his teeth to her. He knows her, he has gone up to her for attention, and now he’s warning her away?
I think he thinks he is protecting me, but that behavior is not acceptable.
It worries me a bit, my nieces said he can be unpredictable that way.

Very nice irk Hippie.

What a mess Nellie, I’m glad it’s mostly straightened out.
I know all about the too tired to get out of the chair. I have to walk upstairs to go to bed and some nights I just don’t have the energy to do it.

I’m glad you’re still alive too MG.

We finally got our new recycling bin today.

Cool thing to do Cookie

Must be nice to have such a chill cat, BooFae
With Adam it’s a mess to take him to the vet, because he almost always gets the trots in his crate.

Sad think about the diner JtC

I’m tired. It’s past my bedtime.
Irk was so busy tonight, I am all talked out.

Evening all. Slothed the day away, didn’t make it outside except to get the mail, then drove to the post office to mail a bill and stopped at Culver’s for a Butterburger before coming home, so I did make it outside. Still have some lingering effects, but I think tonight should put paid to the remnants of my virus. Now just to get the ambition to get back on my exercise schedule…

nellie, great news and cheers for your perseverance. But don’t let them off the hook; make damn sure they do what they said they’ll do!

Sari, the kid is just going to have to accept he’s got to learn how to drive. I don’t think its sunk in yet. And best of luck with Cerby.

FCM, knit them butts.

hippie, that’s damn fine work, take three ‘attaboys’ out of petty cash.

Cookie, that is a good thing you and the others are doing.

Wet one, shipped over a week ago but no tracking info? I iz skeptical of that. Good on ya for stepping in to help.

We are too, my dear lady; we are too.

I did do one thing today; changed the batteries on my wall clock–and it is still not working. So may need to check it, read the instructions, or hit it with a mallet…perhaps all three.

Take care now.

From what I’m seeing on Nextdoor, they will be selling a whole bunch of lookyloo burgers in the next couple of weeks. We will of course be picking ours up and I’ll see if I can add a helping of pics for social media on the side.

I think the main issue they are having regarding reopening is that the restrooms were under the attic fire. They can’t have customers eating and drinking without having restrooms available.

May I say that the violinist on the left was amazing. Plus, I did a little jig myself and now VBC is giving me that look.

Which is the most important part!!!

Oh hurray! This sort of thing shouldn’t be this hard, I’m so happy you can a light at the end of yet another tunnel.

Stove popcorn was great, but then JiffyPop happened and us kids could do it. It was WONDERFUL and AMAZING and SO much fun.

Dude. That is amazing, good job!

And you have obviously been paying attention. That is amazingly precise work and your colors are wonderful!

Flying geese? I think I get it, the triangles are pointing in the same direction as birds flying???

Still, beautiful and I know that the end result will be amazing.

My vote is percussion maintenance first and always.

Not much happened here today. Hubs made a wonderful chicken stew for dinners and then started setting things up to cook beer tomorrow. All of those things were complicated because hubs just cannot seem to remember to put a stool out for GG. If GG can see what is going on, he will sit on his stool and look handsome. If he can’t see, he’s all underfoot with paws reaching up for whatever hubs isI holding.

I spent my day working on my friend’s piece. I’d really like to get it done this year but if I keep messing up like I did today, that’s not going to happen. The very second stitch any needle worker learns is Frog stitch. Ripit Ripit Ripit.

Friend and her dog just left. I will be dog-sitting for about a week after Thanksgiving weekend. I think I’ll be very tired. That is one smart, energetic dog. However, she’s also a lot of fun and the has already done me a favor. A friend gave me what she thought was wrong a cute stuffed dog that makes everyone else shudder. I gave it to this pup to play with, and she obligingly tore it to shreds.

JtC, the image of GG sitting on his stool gives me the most nonstop smilies.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 33 degrees(Ferret height)
outside

Basically GG is half the managers I’ve had in my life.

That sounds cool.

Looks impressive so far, Hippie!

Yay! Cookie!

Sounds like my Mom. She’s at the “clay tablets delivered by Carrier Pigeon” level of technology.

Yay!

Good morning.
It’s a brisk 18F, here. The wind chill is 11F. Not that bad. Could be worse. At least it’s not hot, and humid. I’m much more happy with the cooler weather. The weather-guessers say that it’s going to be getting warmer this coming week. Into the 50s! It’ll be like Spring, again. Anyway, it’s supposed to get up to 35F, today. Sunny, too.

I know my day is cut out for me. I need to clean the bathroom. That’s all there is to it. Good grief. Also, do up some more laundry. Probably two loads. Ugh. I should push the roller-suck around, since I noticed a dogmbleweed wafting across the living room floor.
I need to call in my Rxs, too. It’s always something.

Yesterday, I made a friend a few jars of pickled veggies. I got them processed, and they’re now cool, and ready for me to take them to her, when we all meet up, and go to our weekly Heathen Breakfast, tomorrow. She loves the things. This was a small batch. Only four jars (One quart, two pints, and one half pint). In them, I put cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, baby carrots, mushrooms, olives, bell peppers, pearl onions, and garlic, along with the usual assorted herbs & spices. So, that much is done.

My daughter is going to give me her old keyboard, for my desktop. It’s one of those fancy, gaming ones. It has no numpad, which is fine with me, as I don’t use the numpad on my regular keyboard, anyway. It also has lights in it. I’ll leave that part turned off, probably. Too distracting to fiddle with having them fade from one color to another. Not my thing. I do need a new keyboard, though, and if she’s wanting to give me hers, so be it! I’m grateful!

I’m up stupid early, because I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, early yesterday evening. I was feeling a little lonely, and decided to just go to bed. So, I did. I watched videos until I fell asleep, and here we are. I was up at 3am. Jeez. I see a nap in my future.

Now, it’s time for another mug of coffee, and I suppose I’ll try to get my day underway.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 36 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 56 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today will be a day of mostly sloth, though I might go over to the church house to help roll pee-kahns this afternoon. Or not. I’m kinda willy-nilly on this as there’s also kolledge tackleball that needs watchin’ and well, it ain’t gonna watch itself. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy. So that’s what may or may not be happenin’ here in swampland.

Cookie that’s a great thing y’all did!

Hippie cool quilt!

MOOOOOOM I too want to see pics of crocheted cat < snerk > BUTTS! < snerk >

red I would have preferred Pubic’s or Popeye’s fried chikin, but it was not my gnawin’ and a cravin’.

ace yay for new, to you, keyboard!

JtC I take it GG is much better as a supervisor than a worker.

sari at least the drivin’ is progressin’. Just make him keep it up. One never knows what a dawg is thinkin’, but I have a feelin’ Cerby felt like he was protectin’ you. I suppose that’s a good thing, since that would mean he has decided you are his mommy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Thank you all again for the kind words.

Letter carriers around DC are being robbed of the keys to the mailboxes. Apparently the keys can bring big $$ on line. Then thieves steal the mail, looking for checks to wash and reuse. On the news they recommended mailing all checks inside the post office. What a world…

I’ll be running to Food Lion shortly for a couple of items, then I need to start the pulled poke for tomorrow’s party. Plus cleaning and organizing upstairs is on the list. No one will be up here tomorrow, but they might be on Tues. Besides, it’s a minor disaster. Plus more crocheting.

I’ll post pics of cat butts this afternoon - I promise! But for now, I need to slurp down the last of my caffeine and head to Leonardtown.

Happy Saturday!!

(grumble gripe) Sore stiff neck didn’t exactly make getting useful sleep easy. Also, GoComics is down, so I’m missing out on my daily comics.

Yeah, what’s up with that???

OK, now I’m gone…

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 8c/47f with no predicted change today, and partly cloudy which accounts for the ridiculous amount of sun out there. Weather app says “I would talk about something other than the weather, but I don’t really have anything else of fucking value to say”. So there you have it!

Gym stuff has been accomplished already, I was there at 8am for bootcamp followed by spin, then dumbell hustle. That’s burned off my calories for today. Before the gym, I was up early to feed and medicate the cats, and clean the litter trays although pretty much everything needed to be done again (except meds) when I got home again.

I ordered new meds for Ophelia from an online vet pharmacy, they shipped a few days ago but haven’t arrived yet so now I’ve had to order more from the vet (much more expensive) because we are off to Scotland on Wednesday and I need to be sure Ophie has enough meds to last until we come back. Naturally, this means the postie will deliver the other stuff on Monday.

Sunny no need to worry about Kevin, he does have a home. I took a pic of him and posted it on our NextDoor thing to see if anyone owned him since he was coming in almost every day. I got a message back from a lady who lives a couple of streets from us, saying it’s her cat and his name is Leo. He never answers to that, and I’ve been calling him Kevin since he first showed up here. He is in good condition and looks perfectly fine, I think he is just taking time away from a house with a small child in it, and coming over for playdates with Whisper.

nellie yay for eye surgery, eventually!

hippy that is a beautiful piece of work, you have far more patience than I would ever have. Also, I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler so I’d be hopeless at that kind of thing!

sari Ophelia is the most chilled out cat I’ve ever had. Shadow is the complete opposite and will have a poo almost the second you close the door of his carrier. We tried several different types of carrier to give him more (and less) of a view outside, he has his own blankie along with puppy pads and newspaper underneath, but nothing seems to work. One previous cat (Orly) was a tiny little thing all her life, far more fur than cat. I took her to the vet and had to put her carrier under the seat, facing the wall…some guy came in with the biggest, softest Great Dane who sat as far away from us as possible, the dog was incredibly well behaved…but Orly was throwing herself round the carrier, scratching and hissing to get out so that she could take on a dog easily a dozen times her size!

Time to finish my cuppa, get 'im indoors moving, and get the errands done. Then when I come back again, I really have to get the vacuum cleaner out. It’s my turn to cook dinner as well…and then tomorrow there will have to be floor-mopping too. Cat sitter is coming, have to make it look like we don’t really live in a slum!

we never got that to work it always burnt/burns even after they changed containers

are there still enough people using checks and sending them to make that worth it? I can’t remember where I read it but some banks are saying to paper checks for new accounts …

Morning all. 39F heading for 48F so I need to get out of the house if for no reason than to let some other place pay for the heating (yeah, I’m cheap). Feeling good this morning, gym is open until 6pm so I think I’ll head over there (I know, promises, promises but I mean it this time…). But first some Instant Breakfast to break my fast.

Finally tossed the non-working clock away and used an Amazon card I’ve had to order a new one, so that didn’t cost me a cent. And FCM, I haven’t heard of that sort of robbery before, but I did drop my billing off inside at the Post Office. One of my goals for 2023 is to get as many of these bills moved to Direct Deposit as possible, starting after the December payments. Hey, finally joining the 21st century.

boo fae, thanks for the feline updates; never owned a cat but from the folks here at the MMP, I feel like I understand them now.

OK, onward into the day (it is Sattiday, isn’t it?). Take care all.

SIL came over, left Tobias, took the truck, picked up the tables and chairs, put them in the basement, and took Tobias home. I’ve started the pulled poke in the slow cooker. The dishwasher is empty, so now… dunno. I should make a chore list.

Just had to share - isn’t this the most adorable girl evah!! Her mom just finished doing her hair - apparently that’s a bit of an ordeal for a white girl with straight, fine locks. I’d cheat and keep her hair really short, but I don’t get a vote. :face_holding_back_tears:
Imgur

OK, off to do something constructive.

Good morning everyone.

It’s a very frosty 22 degrees outside with an expected high of 48 and clear skies.

nellie, I’m so glad the surgery is going to happen and a huge hurdle has been cleared to make it so.

hippy, that is some beautiful work!

I never got the lawn mowed yesterday because the frost didn’t disappear from the grass until very late in the afternoon. I will attempt this again today.

FCM, Roxy is just gorgeous and so is her hair.

I need to get another 25-pound bag of peanuts for the birds. I think I’m down to two days remaining on that bag. So, I either need to pick it up today or Monday. WBU is closed on Sundays. I looked at ordering from Amazon, but they’d take over a week to get here. I don’t have that much left. Also, whole unshelled peanuts are ridiculously expensive.

Some weirdo is trying to friend me on FB via a page for a business that serviced our fireplace last year. I know it’s a scam but it’s squicky because he talks about how he enjoys my FB posts (he can’t because my page is locked to only friends seeing it) and I don’t really comment often on public pages. He also talks about a wonderful time. Just eeewwww. I hope someone’s account wasn’t hijacked.

Well, I should finish my coffee and tidy the kitchen. I need to start some soup in the slow cooker too.

Mrs. L.A. is leaving early to get the oil changed in her RAV at 9 o’clock, so she asked for an early breakfast. I’m just making bacon and scrambled eggs this morning. Bacon’s in the oven. Mrs. L.A. is still abed.

The Sun should come up in about 20 minutes.

Yes, yes it is!

Glad you’re still around MG!

JtC, Vicki is an excellent fiddler. She plays with TSC and does Americana with a partner. The rest of the band are multi-instrumentalists as well: Franko on hammered dulcimer (and as comic relief) also is their pennywhistle guy, fills in on mando and guitar, Uncle Don on the banjo also will play guitar, mando and harmonica, Rob on bass also plays guitar and mando and Troy on guitar and singing lead plays bass and mando. Everybody sings.

sari, I’m guessing that Cerby was feeling protective of you. Maybe BarkyMom’s tone of voice alarmed him.

Moooooom, RoxStar is gorgeous! Her mama did a good job with her hair. When my sister (there again with fine, straight hair) adopted my biracial niece and was having problems doing her hair, I sent her a copy of this book . I had bought it for myself, given that I have curly hair and, until that time, had lived in an area without access to stylists who know jack about how to work with it.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a batch of cranberry orange muffins made and KP done. Other than picking up a prescription, I have no need to get out of the house today. It’s too cold for the dog park right now, but if it gets up around 45F, I may take the little booger out to play.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

What a week!! I kept up with the first ~100 posts in this thread, but just skimmed through the last ~100. I have less than 30 minutes before I need to hop in the shower for today’s plans, and I’m determined to get a post in!

First things first: I love cake, but most icing tends to be way too sweet for me (I can’t even consider eating fondant!). I don’t really have a favorite, though, because I’m another person who generally prefers pie. I don’t care for pumpkin anything, but I’m all about apple, key lime, lemon meringue, Boston cream, sweet potato, etc. I’m looking forward to having my first piece of apple pie in more than a year on Thanksgiving, and last night I had my first bite of chocolate cake in more than a year. YUM!

Monday I had a vet appointment* and class #3, Wednesday was class #4**, Thursday was therapy, and yesterday was an oil change appointment*** and a 7pm show at Blues Alley. And all week I was catching up on work stuff from having been OOO the week before. I finally got everything done, but I didn’t send my weekly report to my boss until this morning!

*When Bailey had her annual exam last month, she’d lost quite a bit of weight and the vet was concerned. I’ve been feeding her extra since then (mixing her favorite wet food in with her dinner), and Monday was the weight re-check. She did gain 1 pound now that she eats both breakfast and dinner every day, but she hardly ever eats her Milk Bones anymore…and, breakfast has gotten later and later. The vet still isn’t happy. So, I’ve started giving her a Pepcid every evening, and in a month we’ll check her weight/eating habits again.

**The painful class is done! Woo hoo!! I now have 30 days to take the certification exam for free; I intend to, but I (mostly) don’t care about passing.

***I am really starting to hate going to the dealership. I decided to stop going to the one near my office (where I bought the car) and try the one that’s closer to home, but it turns out their service appointments are just as bad: when I got there yesterday I was told that they were running behind and the wait was looking like 2-3 hours – which I knew would mean more like 3-4 hours. For just an oil change! I was prepared to hang out in their waiting room for about half of that time: I had my corporate laptop in tow, but I can’t use my customer laptop in public and I couldn’t be off that network for 3 hours (half a day!) so I cancelled and took my car back home. Next time I will try for a Saturday appointment, when it won’t matter how long the wait is. I generally prefer to wait vs use a shuttle, because I hate being home without a car. Also I can’t use the shuttle when I go to the dealership near work, because you need a badge to get into our parking lot (they could drop me off but not pick me up). I usually don’t mind waiting, so the shuttle option didn’t even occur to me yesterday morning; plus, I was annoyed that they were so far behind. My car will be three years old/out of warranty in January, and while I’m not looking forward to starting to pay for maintenance I’m looking forward to being able to go back to the shop I used to use.

Time to get in the shower and get on with my day! In less than an hour I’ll be heading up to northern Maryland – about 25 miles north of Baltimore – to have a late lunch with my mom’s cousin, who I grew up calling “aunt.” I haven’t seen her since before the pandemic, so I’m really looking forward to the visit. Unfortunately her husband is out of town this weekend, but it’ll still be great to see just her.

Have a great day, everyone…I hope to get better caught up/re-engaged tomorrow!
