Cake Day - A Sweet Treat in the MMP

Holding a good thought for you and FCD and MIL and the first responders and the hospital staff.

Distract yourself in the kitchen putting together some good sides to go with that smoked turkey. Thrown some bread dough in the bread maker. You’ll make good use of some ready-to-go homemade meals in the days to come.

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of usual high sloth with bits of productivity thrown in. I made red beans and rice and cornbread for sup. I also hauled my neighbor’s and my trash cans all the way back up to where they live durin’ the week. That counts as major productivity. Well, it does for me!

Taters sorry irk is bein’ so sucky. Hopefully things will get better soonest.

Sunny also sorry for the sucky day you’ve had. You have earned several g&ts this evenin’. It’s mid-afternoonish where you live, so you deserve to start right now.

MOOOOOOM YIKES! Hope things get situated soon. Maybe now MIL will be more amenable to lookin’ into help with the FIL.

Susan glad the stuff seems to be workin’ for ya.

I’m so sorry Mooomm.

I’d be happy to call them. I’ve got some frustrations to work off. Alternatively, I write a mean “Imma sue your ass” letter. :smiling_imp:

I won’t hold the martini thing against you.

I’ve always liked you

BIL is hooked up. Already his tremors have decreased and his gait has improved.

Snow forecast for tomorrow’s morning commute. Thank goodness I am retired……

Yay! That’s very promising news.

I’m sure that your place is just lovely. It has you AND kitties, how could it not be super nice?

I used to be a huge cake eater but now if someone offers me a piece of homemade cake, I will accept a small slice, eat a couple of bites and then get so distracted by talking about how wonderful the cake is that I forget to finish it.

Give me a slice of cheesecake or cherry pie and I will be a happy camper!

FCM, I am so sorry about what is happening. While of course I am sad for FIL, my heart goes out to MIL who is watching the man she loved for so many years go downhill so quickly. My thoughts are with all of you.

I really hope they help. I tried them for my hip and wasn’t impressed, but everyone reacts differently to that sort of thing.

I chuckled too. Hubs claims to not like sweets, but every time cake, pie or candy comes into the house, he eats most of it before I get to it. Not that I’m complaining because if it sits around long enough, I will eat it and I don’t really need the extra calories.

Still worried.

I’ve made a couple of those, they really aren’t that difficult as long as you do NOTHING but bake cake while you are doing it. If you let yourself get distracted, no cake for you.

I’m really glad this is working for you. You never know how well something will work for you until you put it in your body and then it’s too late to change your mind.

I thought Ripple was a dog…

Very Bad Cat used to open hubs’ dresser drawer and drag all of his socks to the front door. I bought her a kitten so now socks are too boring.

I celebrated Pickle Day by pickling some cauliflower for hubs to snack on. I did it because it looked like it needed to be done, but I’m going to say that I totally planned it!

I so hope it goes well.

Well, that was a whole bunch of shit to fall all in one day. I hope it all gets straightened out.

I love our litter robot. LOVE it. It was kinda pricey and takes up more room than a litterbox but not bending over to scoop a couple of times a day is awesome.

Ouch indeed. Can they check around and see if there are any groups that help victims with those sort of expenses? I’ve heard of them out this way but fortunately have no other experience with them.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a martini. When we go out I see them on the menu, but I like to try the fancy drinks, something I’ve never had before.

We haven’t left oru property again today. It’s good to be retired homebodies, no need to go out into crazy town. My BFF told me about a dozen people picketing the food stamp office in town because that’s the closest government building around unless you want to drive allllllllll the way to Prescott and picket the courthouse.

They’re at the hospital - dunno if they’ve see a doc yet or not. I feel so… something…

But I did get the smoked turkey dissected, wrapped, bagged, and it’s in the freezer till next week. I’ll warm it in the oven, then carve it for dinner when the time comes.

Other than that, I’m just reading a trashy novel, trying not to fret.

Seems like a good idea~that’s usually my go to also.

Back from Costco, for under $50. Not bad, but OTOH, I only went for two items, so should have been able to stay under $20  . Got the bottled water (makes it easier to track how much I’m drinking, and the tap water here is pretty awful) and the heat-and-serve scalloped potatoes. Also got bananas, a Lindt Advent calendar, and a tin of butter pecan meltaway cookies.

Mom I’m sorry I have been in & out and not keeping up - I am presuming we’re dealing with elderly memory issues?

I wouldn’t have been shocked receiving that phone call 2 months ago.

Best wishes

Spoonful of Ragdolls

Ripple is a dog. He brings me the mail for treats. When he thinks there is not enough mail, he will bring me dirty socks for treats.
This is the first time he has distributed them around the room.

Well, that all sounds very annoying Sunny.
So much incompetence all around and we are stuck cleaning up the mess.

I’m sorry about FIL FCM. I guess it’s a good thing they are up here instead of FL.

I’m glad it sounds like BIL in improving WetOne

That truly sux Nellie all the way around.
I’m all about free speech and despise censorship, but when it comes to giving impressionable delinquent minds ideas…
When my son was young, he used to watch YouTube videos that were all about putting different things into microwaves to see what would happen. All of a sudden, he couldn’t watch them anymore because he wasn’t 18 or older. I told him to lie about his age on his account, but he wouldn’t do that. So, he used my account to watch them.
I know he isn’t that stupid, but I see all the time people getting hurt trying out stuff they see on YouTube and TikTok.

warns of a lot of dangerous stuff, but I suppose stealing cars is something anybody should know is wrong.

As far as cake baking, my two favorites

Not that I’ve tried any of them yet, but they sure look good.

Hugs and good vibes all around. What a hell of a day :frowning:

The vodka is for Moscow Mules, and occasional other things…
I’ve only ever had one martini that was good and the guy who made it for me is long since gone so I can’t ask him how he made it.

And also {{{{{Sunny}}}}}

And {{{{{Mom}}}}}

The Missus bought a bag of French rolls for sandwiches a few weeks ago. There were two left. I used one of them to make pizzas with TJ’s pizza sauce, Quattro Formaggi, and ‘Old World’ pepperoni (the kind that cups up when cooked). She said it was good, and said I should make some more. So I did, using the other roll. So the bread’s used up, the leftover pizza sauce is used up, and there’s enough of a stick of pepperoni for me to have a snack later.

I decided to walk instead of going to the gym. The fresh air was good for me, as were the pretty fall colors, but the best part was, of course, the dogs I met. I may still have that martini. We’ll see.

Bumba, the best martini (gin or vodka) maker I know is my nephew. I can’t remember all his tricks, but one of them is he shakes that shaker HARD, and it’s exactly 64 shakes. It has something to do with dispersing/suspending ice crystals throughout the hooch. Can you tell he’s a nuclear engineer?

FCM, thanks for the update. I’ll continue to send good intentions your way.

Sari, I have to say, Ripple laying out the socks cracked me up. Him substituting socks for mail REALLY made me laugh. Clearly, today he was simply sorting the mail. (P.S. He must be very smart!)

sunny, thanks for the offer. Maybe you can call the eye clinic and I can call your lazy-ass property manager. Deal?

The Costco registers can’t compute anything less than $50. That’s my excuse, anyway.

Holy crap, idiots a-go-go. I hope they got laughed at. Point-and-laugh is my usual response. I do it when this one idiot drives around with giant MAGA and Confederate flags flying from his pickup. If you read a story about a truck jumping the curb and a couple of hedges to run over a Washington woman, you’ll know why.

I’ll ask about the victims fund stuff. They make decent money. It’s just that they’ve been hit with some big expenses lately, plus inflation. I wish I could get my hands on those hooligans.

WetOne, so glad the treatment is working. Best news so far!

I… have no words. These people will get the government they deserve. Unfortunately, they’ll take the rest of us along for the ride.

You must tell me your secret. I didn’t know this was possible. :exploding_head:

(Those potatoes are delicious.)

flyboy good job with the leftovers!

Updates: My mom has been sent home from the ER and there are no broken bones.

The bank miraculously found the deposit and the funds have been released.

I caught the Property Manager in multiple lies today, and told him so. I expect to fire him tomorrow. I ran out of time today.

The Oregon rent situation is all straightened out.’

I’m having an IPA and considering what to eat for dinner. I’ve thawed a nice tri-tip for tomorrow, but we’re foraging for our own dinners tonight. I’ll probably heat up a chicken pot pie. I’m very boring lately.

Thank you all for your support. It’s lovely and means a lot.

Something will always wind up in something.

My BFF is a government worker and is not allowed to point and laugh while she is on the clock. She is allowed to take two 15 minute breaks daily as well as a lunch break and if she and the other workers want to spend that time standing out in the parking lot pointing and laughing, well that’s on them.

Out here it’s called a Victim’s Relief Fund, offering that up as keyword search suggestions.

Working government service always kept me aware that 50% of any given population is under average intelligence. Now that I’m retired and don’t have to spend that much time around people I tend to forget until I’m reminded like this.

I am so happy things worked out so quickly. Moving is a major stressor and stress stacks so sometimes you forget about that big box full of stress in the corner because you have three more boxes of stress in your hands.

I am SO happy that the election is almost over. That has been a big box of stress for me.

Evening all. Pretty much a do-nothing day, slept a fair portion of the afternoon and except for going out to Mickey D’s (I like their fries, but the large size is getting ridiculous, will have to cut back to medium) pretty much a swampy-level sloth day. Rain is expected to start late tonight and continue for most of the morning, so further sloth is planned. Still fighting a cough and my nose is running like a politician in Georgia, but I’ll medicate tonight and hope a good night’s sleep will improve my outlook.

FCM, I’m sorry to hear the news on FIL, but I think you (and all us MMP’ers) could see it coming, I hope they get him the treatment he needs and also can protect MIL. Sounds like his stay in that apartment is going to be a short one…

Sunny, lloks like things have resolved themselves pretty well, hope the Prop. Manager doesn’t have any of your money to hand that he could tie up; good wishes on the firing.

Nellie, don’t have a kia and don’t visit Tik-Tok, but fools gotta foolish…sorry that this bit of foolish is going to cost daughter and hubby.

Sari, the “hey everybody, watch this” gene is strong in young males particularly, glad Sah-son is one of the level-headed.

OK, time to watch some tackleball and then medicate for the night. Take care all.
wet one, that is good news about your BIL. Hope he keeps improving.

Laughing but still worried.
