Calgary Area Dopers Look Here!!

I’ve tried in the past and I’ll try again. I am originally from Calgary and get back there once or twice a year. This year I’d like to come back to Cow Town in mid April to see my mother and my grand parents and my friend Joel has his birthday on April 20. Okay, there is an ulterior motive to my picking mid April, that is because, AFAIK, The Pixies are playing in the city on April 19.

My question is this, are any Dopers interested in going to this concert with me? Maybe some ginger beef before hand?

Any takers?

Ginger Beef.

Ahhhhhh.

I wish I could be there, Adam. Say hi to Canmore for me when you go out to visit.

This is what, the third thread like this that I have started and Ginger you are still the only person to post to them and you don’t even live in the area anymore. Thanks for at least giving me a response.

BTW. I still have not tried that ginger beef recipie that I got from you. However, I do plan to try it within the next month or so. I need to buy a new wok.

For the sake of a lonely thread…

I’m in Calgary, but I’m not a Pixies fan. Thanks anyway, though.

Ah, sorry, Adam, but we’re not Pixies fans either. We are going to the Barenaked Ladies on April 1, though - can you move your date up a little?

Seriously, we need to have an AlbertaDope someday. Except with somebody more socially inclined than me to organize it.

I don’t know who the Pixies ARE…

plus I don’t have a lot of money to spare going out.

Maybe we should all just plan a dinner thing?

Okay, this boggles my mind. Hmmm. Ever seen Fight Club? The song at the closing credits is by the Pixies. Ever heard of The Breeders? Kim Deal started that band and she was also in the Pixies (and is again).

Oooh! Ooooh! I wanna go to the Pixies! I’m not sure if tix are still available (or if they’ve even been on sale yet, for that matter).
I am so very excited, and really hope to be able to go.
As the date draws closer, we can set up something via the boards or email?

Sorry… never saw Fight Club nor heard of The Breeders…

I’m a dummy when it comes to stuff like that.

I wish I could have got Pixie Tickets - but they sold out in 15 minutes - so if you don’t have your tickets already - unfortunately you’re SOL.

They always say they’re sold out, then at the last minute, they release a bunch of nosebleed seats. This is what happened with U2 - we couldn’t get tickets, then we found out later that there were cheap seats on sale the day of the show. Phooey - the one band that I would have loved to see. So don’t completely give up hope - you might be able to get last-minute tickets.

If they were playing anywhere but at the U of C - I might think that some last minute tickets would show up. The gig is at the new MacEwan Hall (U of C) - so no nosebleed section - just a big room.

The room has only a capacity of about 1,800 - I am curious to know how many tickets were sold - but I know there has been times when Mac Hall has gone over capacity.

Oh, of course - I was thinking of the Saddledome. I guess it would be different for smaller venues. Speaking of which, did you that Prince came to town and played a show at the Jube a year (or two) ago? He gave no advance notice, just showed up and played. We’re still fuming over not knowing about that - we just sat on the couch and watched stupid tv while Prince was playing a small venue about half a mile away.

“did you know”, dammit! Stupid fingers…

Depending on when in April, I may be away.
And I’m not really interested in the concert…but ginger beef might work…

What is the possible ginger beef venue?

bump Was just wondering if we were going to do at least dinner? Or has it just been dropped?

I wish you the best of luck with this.

I’ve been out to Calgary 4 times in the past 2 years and no one showed up to any drinks.

Mind you, one did. That was Gingy. And she was living in the US at the time.

Oh the irony. :stuck_out_tongue:
