Hubs bought this one for me to use when we are on his trike. The pieces are kinda strung on a thick elastic cord so if you practice you can snap it together with one upward jerk. What? Us gimps need party tricks too! It’s not nearly as hefty as the one I use as a whacking stick, but I’ll bet it would leave a mark if you needed it to.
We had our design center appointment for the house today. It only took 3 1/2 hours (they told us to allow 4 to 5) and we ended up under budget! We’d budgeted for several higher-priced options only to find that the base model was just fine.
I think we made some great choices. Well, Mrs W drove most of the decisions, but I had my opinions as well, and the consultant was a big help with coordinating everything. It’s going to look really nice.
So I’m happy, and now we’re in vacation mode in Vegas! Just got back from the pool, and we’re getting ready for an early dinner, then maybe some casinoing. Home tomorrow.
I spent a good part of yesterday baking. I did lemon scones, chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter blossom cookies(the kind with the Hershey’s Kiss) They were for a funeral at my church this morning. The gentleman who died was practically the first person I spoke to when I visited the congregation, not quite two years ago. He was very welcoming, as were most of the folks. I went early to help set up for the luncheon afterwards, and it’s a good thing I did, as the church was packed, and extra chairs had to be set up. The parking lot was absolutely filled and a lot of cars were parked in the street to the south. He was cremated, and I guess the ashes are still with the family, as there was no procession to a cemetery, which is a good thing as the traffic would have been a nightmare. The main road on the north is a wide busy street, and stopping traffic would have really been a chore.
Speaking of baking, I saw a cookie cutter online shaped like a beer mug. I think I’m going to get one. Don’t know what I’ll do with it but it’s just so cool. The ad came up when I was browsing YouTube and saw several videos on decorating a cake to look like a frothing mug of beer.
Wheelz, congrats to you and Mrs. W on the fortune you had with decorating.
overlyverbose, I’ve only felt one minor earthquake ever, and that was enough to really scare me. Terra is supposed to be firma, dammit!
teelabrown, I think the answer to your question is to dispose of the clothing. Although maybe there are products that will freshen them up.
Locally we are due for thunderstorms tonight, perhaps severe. Hope they’re over by the morning. Walking Mauser in the rain is no fun, I want to take him to the park.
I forgot to mention, today is my cat Atilla’s fifteenth birthday. His mother was feral and she had her kittens in my then backyard. He was born in the night, and we found the kitties in the morning. Both me and the neighbor across the alley had nests prepared for the mom. Two kittens eventually disappeared, I adopted the one, and another family took the fourth.
Happy birthday to both Atilla and Nelson. It always seems strange to me that folks know their pets’ birthdays because almost all of ours were unplanned and all we had were best guesses.
The FedEx guy who delivers our Chewy orders likes me (cause I give him 20 bucks every Christmas) and was happy to leave our heavy order of birdseed by the side gate instead of carrying it up the porch steps which made schlepping into it’s spot much easier on me. I’m so glad I finally figured out that I could do this.
A Thrasher was wanting to get a bite to eat while I was dealing with the food and I kept running him off while going back and forth so I put a handful of shelled sunflower seeds in the treat tray and he decided that I could fiddle-fart around all i wanted as long as the easy fud kept showing up.
Spring is wonderful here, I’m so happy I’m able to spend my days enjoying it.
Well, Atilla is the only pet I’ve had that I know his birthdate. Let’s see, Mauser is my third dog, and besides Atilla I’ve had four other cats.
I’m staying up later than I planned. The weather has been stormy tonight, and at one point there was a tornado warning for a spot less than ten miles away. Ten minutes ago I thought things had calmed down and suddenly there were several loud BOOMS of thunder and lightening. So I think I’ll wait a little longer. Yep, there goes another one.
Trying to give cats separate dishes of treats was entertaining. Get one settled, grab the other to take to where their dish is, first cat abandons their own dish to check out the other one, which had the exact same contents, lather, rinse, repeat. DH just sat there and laughed about the challenges of herding cats.
I’m lying in bed in my daughter’s guestroom with a sleeping cat nestled at my side. We’re old friends and usually bunk together. Her brother (cat’s, not daughter’s) is not allowed in the room because he gets in trouble. She has the most gorgeous sapphire blue eyes…when they’re open.
My trip here was fine except it wasn’t on the train. It left from the Amtrak station, but it was a bus. Shoulda read the fine print. I’m OK with buses. The seats were a little cramped. Some genius decided they could make more money if they crammed more seats into a bus that’s never full, so there was almost no legroom, and I’m short. However, seats were comfy. In the middle of the 7.5-hour trip, the young, fit woman sitting in front of me jumped up and announced, “I’m sorry, people, but I have to do a plank,” whereupon a young, fit guy in the back yelled, “Me, too!” And they both lay in the aisle in plank position for 2 minutes. Things sure are different here in Bus World.
Van, go to bed. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Hope you’re feeling better.
Seanette, I hope that’s the last time you have to go to the ER. So many docs are scheduling so far out that I wonder if you shouldn’t set up the appointment now for sometime after June 1st.
FCM, into every life, a little scam must fall. At least you didn’t fall for it .
Red, Baby Nelson is too cute for words.
OK must disturb the cat so I can turn out the light.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and partly N.O.S. for the day. It could rain. Or not. TWPTB are bein’ all willy-nilly once again. We received an invitation to have N.O.L. at Stonebridge country club tomorrow after deheathenization. Tomorrow is first Sunday brunch. Normally I would decline an invitation on first Sunday. However, the food at Stonebridge is amazin’ and so we shall be bears who N.O.L. tomorrow. Stonebridge is the non-snooty country club, btw. Today at some point I shall head over to the church house to deal with candles. That will be after the biiiiiiiiiiiiig yahd sale thing is over. That’s today. Da bear does not deal with yahd sales, so I shall steer clear until later in the afternoon. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, etc.
CupCakes yay on you for doin’ all that goody bakin’ for the reception. I am sure your delectable treats were most appreciated and promptly scarfed down. Here’s hopin’ the weather calmed down enough for you to go to sleep. I like tstorms but severely nasty weather creeps me out too.
Wheelie glad the appointment went well. I’ve been through that and found it to be a very tedious process. I am amiss of the alleged gay decorator gene. The tasteless white guy decorator gene, however, is strong.
nellie glad you made it to your daughter’s safe and sound. Sometimes buses ain’t too bad. Enjoy the shower and have fun with daughter and family stuff.
Nettie everybody knows the stuff in the other kitteh’s bowl is always much better even though it looks, smells, and tastes exactly the same as what is in your own bowl.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
LOL! Well, at one point, I had Buddy snuggling up to my lower legs on the ottoman and Allie in my arms getting hugged, and there were no rude feline comments made. Allie hasn’t even hissed since Buddy came back in a while back. Pretty sure Buddy’s getting the message to leave Misty alone. It’s fine if he just watches here (Allie does that too), but any apparent aggression is a NO.
Did discover that the lisinopril is apparently not totally side-effect-free for me. Bit of lower digestive distress, which is a known side effect. I won’t worry unless it lasts for several days. It’s still doing its job on my circulation quite nicely.
As long as the dog isn’t present, giving our cats treats is easy. Taz gets his right next to the pantry, Ziva gets hers under the dining room table. Don’t ask why - that’s just how treats have evolved here. Plus cats is weird.
I’d like to think I’m to smart for them.
In a few hours, we’ll leave for the drive north. I think we’re both dreading this service. What do you say to someone who’s lost a child suddenly and unexpectedly? And especially when you were practically strangers with the child. We’ve never lived closer than 2+ hours from all of them, and near as I can figure, we might have been around this nephew maybe twice a year over the last 20 years. It’s going to be a rough afternoon.
And on top of that, my sister (his mother) has to have thyroid surgery next week, with a risk of losing her voice because of how much that has to be done in the proximity of her voice box.
There will be a family dinner after the service and I’m hoping it doesn’t drag on too long, considering our long drive home. Face it, this will not be a good day. Sorry to be a bummer, but I certainly can’t say these things to a grieving family. But I’m ready for today to be over and it’s not even 7AM.
swampy, enjoy associating with the hoi polloi at the Country Club.
Wheelie, good news on the new place, glad things worked out well budget-wise.
nellie, was it supposed to be a train? Just wondering, I’m booked on the Coast Starlight to Portland on the 13th, really not looking for a bus ride there.
Cupcakes, hoped you got to sleep in; storms can be disruptive, I know. And happy birthday to Attilla.
cookie, fingers crossed your property moves quickly.
And assorted hugs, tears, and happy-faces for all.
Up early, have an 8:30am game to referee. AT&T folks stopped by yesterday and talked me into switching my internet, we’ll see how that goes. Won’t be until after my vacation, however.
Oh my. It sounds very fancy and quite fun. If I could draw, I would do a quick sketch of bears on the veranda of a country club, sitting on chairs amongst the other diners, sipping on mimosas.
I can’t even imagine what it would be like. Even thinking about losing one of my kids is heart-rending. Perhaps you just say something like that? It sounds like you aren’t that close with your sister, but if appropriate you could also say that you love her and that you’re there for her, and then make a point to call her once a week for the next year. My understanding is that people tend to disappear after the first month or so, and the bereaved end up feeling very alone. Just a thought.
{{{ hugs }}} It sounds like a long and hard day.
Beamette, now free from her captivity, must make up for her enforced separation from her nearest and dearest AKA her friends. She’s off to a sleepover, and Monday she wants to go to a show with some of them in SF. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. The Bay Area is big y’all. She’s going 80 miles one way today and tomorrow, and then over to SF on Monday, which is an hour’s drive on a good day. I’m driving on Monday, wheee.
Beamer’s birthday is Monday, and we’re celebrating on Sunday. He wants to see his cousins and have a party at his grandparents. Monday he is taking treats to school for his friends there.
My 30th wedding anniversary is also Monday - Beamer decided to crash that party by being born ahead of my scheduled inducement date. I’m thinking we’ll take Beamette to her show and then have dinner in the city while we wait for her. Maybe. Still working on that plan.
Back to the 30th anniversary date, why yes - I did get married in LA during the Rodney King riots. I’m glad the world has changed at least a little bit since that happened.
More reasonable amount of heaving today. But after the last two days, micromanaging sup will henceforth be known as Captain Queeg. Laundry is in the dryer, Gordie has been walked. Naptime!
That’s the best time! The sun isn’t shining, the birds aren’t singing…
