Can we please have a better week in the MMP?

Thank you. I think the world is divided into two groups of people. Those for whom pets are family members and those for whom pets are just animals in your home.

Morning all. Didn’t get my evening post in, got caught up with basketball and the Tom Brady specials on ESPN and it was 11pm before I knew it. Gym and walk are planned for today, looks like the rain (not as much as predicted) have cooled things down, only a high of 66F today, but no rain to be seen.

shoe, I’d echo what the others have already said, document and if there were other people who saw you being given the bag and most importantly, your comment on not having ID, get to them. Hope you’re wrong about it, but looks like we have have to upgrade Asshole Manager to “Samuel Jackson Manager” (based on Mr. Jackson’s most well-known bad words which I can’t use in MPSIMS).

Seanette, sounds like that cat has got himself a good deal there, what with three different humans meeting his needs…

Cupcakes, sorry about the loss of the church member. Being tall myself (well, 6’2"), I know it’s easier to ID us. Hope things go well.

OK, need to Instant Breakfast here in a bit and be about the day. All y’all take care.

Well the crappy night’s sleep (quite literally) seems to have gotten rid of the residual KFC. But I’m feeling the lack of sleep.

Now to throw a bunch of plywood around the shop before going to get my eyes examined. I believe it is time for bifocals.

Shoe, do you know anyone above AM that might listen to your concerns? Otherwise, talking to HR isn’t a terrible idea, but tread lightly; HR is there for the company’s benefit, not yours. I’ve worked for some companies that have anonymous tip lines. If there’s one of those, that might be your best bet. Meanwhile, put everything in writing, including the past till shortages you described, with dates, dollar amounts, and names of everybody who could have handled the money.
This guy sounds like a one-man shitshow. Good luck with everything.

Jane the Cane, I won’t say no to a potential meetup, but our free time will be somewhat limited on this trip and we don’t plan to leave the hotel other than for our meeting with the builder. If you want to stop by for a cocktail or something on either Thursday or Friday evening, shoot me a PM and I’ll let you know where we’re staying.

More work fun!

… walked in knowing A.M. would be here. He says, “You have an interview tomorrow.”

For a sec, I was like, “How does he know I’m thinking of looking elsewhere?”

No. I have an interview tomorrow with the owner’s son (a.k.a. Big Kahuna) for an official manager position.

I mean, that’s good, right?

How do they manage to cook in a place that’s a giant roller coaster?

Hope the interview goes well, and please do take ALL advice given about covering your backside.

The same advice and good wishes from me.

AM is setting you up for a big fall~outmaneuver him at the pass.

On the phone with GEICO trying to resolved the deductible on my claim. Apparently they had the whole thing as my fault - I have no idea what the police report said. GRRRRRRRR I just hope I’m not out $1K for something that wasn’t my fault. I could have hit the bus and caused lots more damage to it, my car, and possibly kids on the bus - how dare they quibble over this???

GRRRRRRRRR

OK, I’ve chilled - the agent I was speaking to was very helpful. So we shall see.

Meanwhile, I’ve eaten my first real meal since Saturday. We’ll see how it goes. I’m still feeling a little weak, but I’m guessing it’s because I haven’t eaten much of late.

We’ve decided to try having our main feed midday and a lighter supper. It’s going to take a bit of adjustment for my mindset, but I think it’s the smarter choice for us. I’ll just need to be defrosting stuff much earlier. And the evening meal will no longer be meat + 2, rather we’ll try salads, soup, or maybe just a veggie plate. The hardest adjustment - we’re going to try not to snack after supper. THAT will be a challenge till we get used to it.

And now, I’m going to see if my car starts. If it does, I’m going to the credit union to do the deposit I didn’t do yesterday. If it doesn’t start, we’ll know to charge it on Thursday before we take it to the shop. Onward!!!

Can lapsed Mumpers post here? Hi peoples! I come bearing photos!

She made her bed in a pile of dirty laundry!

This is Lola. (Her name was Lola, she was a showdog…) I adopted her from the CAPS shelter where she’d been for only a week. I lost my last dog a few weeks ago and i just couldn’t stand the silence anymore, ya know?

She is one year old. She weighs only 8.8 pounds. Tiniest dog I’ve ever had! They said she was a mix of chihuahua and min-pin, but I don’t see anything but Taco Bell!

I’ve caught up with your lives so far for this week. Lots of new faces, lots of old friends. I’ll comment more as the days go by.

Your offering is sufficient. Welcome back!

Please give Lola an extra hug from me. I’m not typically a small dog fan, but she’s adorable. Sorry about her predecessor.

I don’t recall talking to you before, nice to meet you. My husband and I have a cat, Allie (aka the Princess), and a bird (Misty).

Imgur

We also seem to have a part-time cat we call Buddy. He’s apparently a community cat in our apartment complex who seems to like us enough to hang out a few hours an evening, grab snacks, get attention, etc. Allie isn’t happy about having another cat around, but she seems to be adjusting.

{{{Rebo}}} - believe it or not, I was thinking about you the other day, wondering if you’d wander back to our playground. One of my sisters has a Shi Tzu (I think - little fluff ball) named Lola, tho they tend to call her Lolie most of the time. And the other day at our marina, a little girl was walking a tiny little black Chihuahua that was cute as can be - so it was a foreshadowing of your return!! Welcome back!!!

Well, something is draining my car’s battery - we charged it last night and FCD was able to start it, but today, nothing. I know there’s damage to the headlight/signal light wiring harness, and I’m assuming that’s where the problem is. As long as we can charge it and start it on Thurs so we can take it to the shop, we’ll be good.

SIL is keeping Toby tomorrow since he’s not going back to work yet. With luck, I’ll have more strength back so I can get some more chores done.

Oh, yeah, on the FIL front… FCD’s folks have gone to Indianapolis with MIL’s sister for a visit, after which FCD will drive there and bring them back to stay with us for a week or so. Last night, they went to Subway for a sammich, and FIL fell while going from his walker to the chair. I think he actually fell twice. Needless to say, they took him to the ER (MIL’s sister is a retired nurse and she doesn’t take crap from anyone!!!)

Fortunately, no broken bones, but apparently he’s got bruising and a black eye. Oh, did I mention that when they come visit us, he wants to go out on the boat with us?? When we were at the marina on Firday, we were trying to figure out how we could get him aboard. The finger pier is too narrow and too shaky. We could try to come alongside the fuel dock, but there’s still a gap between the pier and the boat due to the size of the pilings - I doubt he could step across a 1 foot gap, and if the tide is at either extreme, there would also be a step up or down. So it’s looking like they won’t be going for a boat ride.

It’s really too bad - they do enjoy being out on the water, but I don’t see how we can get him on and off safely, especially with FCD’s bad back and legs. Plus he’s want to sit on the flying bridge, which means climbing. :open_mouth: SIL would be a big help, except for, yanno, his recent knee surgery. I guess we shall see how it goes.

Meanwhile, I deposited the checks at the credit union and the laundry is done. I think it’s time for some dedicated reading.

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys. And yes, shoe, I probably do need a breathmint. Once more, I’ve been working for about three hours already (remembered we’re in an audit just in the nick of time) and just now managed to put some normal pants on - no shower yet. I’m hopeful, though - perhaps this means I’ll be encouraged to get a stroll outside before hygeine takes precedence.

It was freaking cold out here when I woke up this morning - in the upper 30s F. I shouldn’t complain, it’s gorgeous out now and while I was on an errand up at the local parks & rec office, they gave me three free dogwood cuttings! They looked kind of exhausted, so I stuck them all in pots until they’re strong enough for me to replant in the ground (and until they’re big enough no one will mow them down).

Happy Tuesday. I should be on my way to the gym, but it’s raining, which seems like a good excuse to procrastinate for a bit.

shoe, I hope you get the job. Don’t want to jinx anything, but I’m feeling good about the odds here. Just so I’m clear, if you get the manager position, the AM would be your immediate supervisor, right? Like swampy said, the burden of proof is on the corporation, and it’d sure seem odd if yet another of AM’s subordinates is accused of stealing. Also, they won’t want a wrongful discharge lawsuit. I’d still insist on witnesses or video–call 'em “safeguards” that would protect corporate’s money. And maybe hint to AM how much he’d like living in Florida.

Mooom, glad you’re feeling better! Your MIL’s sister sounds like a sharp cookie. I bet she’s told them your FIL shouldn’t be driving any more. Do your daughter and SIL have any friends that might help FIL get on the boat in exchange for a free ride?

wordy, that shower is going to feel blissful whenever it happens. And yay on the dogwood cuttings!

Seanette, I’m loving the Buddy stories and your keen wit.

This cracked me up. It’s very nice to meet you.

Heaved. Stopped at Ald for a few things. Naptime

Awwwwwwww. And welcome back!

: skritches :

shoe, I’d definitely cue in LP on AM’s shenanagins. And document everything for your own CYA.

Happy Toosday!

It’s been a gloomy cool day. It’s 61 degrees now, which is as high as it’s going to get.
We didn’t go to the park this morning since the city park is closed and I didn’t feel like going to the county park. I had planned on staying home since it was supposed to rain this morning. I wanted to sleep in, but instead I woke about every hour or so last night, and while I turned off the sound for my alarm, I forgot to turn off the vibration.

I closed the windows and put the heat back on to take out some of the chill. Temps are supposed to drop back down into the 30s.

The drive to the armpit wasn’t too bad yesterday. Coming home was awful. I left a little too late and caught traffic in several areas. I almost got run off the road by a truck, I don’t know what the problem was, but when I looked in the rearview, he was drifting into the left lane again. I had a few other close calls with people being assholes.
While everything is good, I have to go back in two weeks for some tests.
Oh, joy and happiness driving down there again so soon. But it’ll be the day after Mother’s Day, and the week before my son’s and my birthdays, so we can make it a combined celebration.
If my mother feels up to it, her first chemo is Wednesday of next week.
I think she is more scared of chemo than she is of cancer.

When I was in the hospital years ago, my nurse’s name was Lola. Everybody knows, and loves, her, she was the most cheerful, fun person. She was from Africa, I forget which country, and she told me Lola means ‘my wealth is in my child’. I took it to mean her parents wanted her to be successful and make lots of money, but it more closely translates to ‘my child is my treasure’.
Every time she walked in the door I thought, I met her in a club down in old Soho.

I think there is a dead mouse in the house somewhere.

{{{St Cad}}}

I agree to be careful with the manager Shoe. CYA at all times, and document everything. I’ve known several people let go for stealing, when it was a manager doing it. Another person who knew some fraud was going on and the manager told her to let it go. I told her to get the manager to sign off on the transactions, so when the shit hit the fan, as it did, she was in the clear.

Congrats on the new pup, Rebo

So…last weekend, one of the reasons that I was so peeved was my daughter, a tweenaged drama queen (as is required), lost her ever-loving mind when I wouldn’t let her spend the night at her friend’s house. She would miss out on everything, she said. She would be excluded, she sighed. She cried, I tried not to snap at her too much to knock it off (amazing how critical everything feels when one is 12).

Anyway, turns out she missed out on everything, including sleeping next to her friend, whose brother has COVID, and who is rapidly developing symptoms herself. I’m keeping an eye on her (she played with said friend outside for a few hours), but I’m extra, extra not sorry I didn’t cave. So there, nyah.

Texting??

Today we got yet another refund check from a medical bill - apparently they bill us before the insurance is fully settled or something, so $61 in unexpected moolah! Which, of course, comes right after I made a credit union run… sheesh.

We’ve got an appointment to get our pellet stove and chimney cleaned - boy, has that gotten expensive! They guy we used to call unfortunately fell off a roof, and that ended his chimney-sweeping days. The new guy is close and he’s done an OK job, so until he pisses me off, he’s got the job.

Speaking of being pissed off, the big tree between FCD’s shop and paint shed is apparently dead. Dammit.
Imgur
It’s the only tree in the yard not showing any buds, and it’s a BIG one. I bet it’ll cost $2K to have it taken down. On the plus side, there’s lots of firewood in that tree. We’ll get the tree guys to cut it into log-sized chunks and rent a splitter. But that’ll probably wait till next year - since it just died, we’re not worried about it falling any time soon. But if $2K miraculously shows up, we’ll deal with it earlier.

We’re under a t-storm watch till 8 tonight. Nothing so far, but it’s just 5:30-ish. Then the temps are dropping with lows in the 30s for 3 nights - guess I’ll be firing up the stove yet again. Stoopit weather.

Enough whining. Back to my book.

Oh hell no. Why do the bags not have the locks I’ve seen on every other bank deposit bag ever. They protect the carrier from the sort of accusation you were just possibly set up for.

Just thinking? You need to get off that merry-go-round as soon as you can. Even if you do get promoted, you will still be the AM’s fall guy. Yes I am a worry-wort, why do you ask?

Welcome back and welcome Lola. She is quite the cutie. I have a cat who would love a puppy, “her” kitten is far too big for her to drag around anymore.

nettie,** those are great pics, thank you!

Good on you for being such a mean mommy and sticking to your guns. I’m sorry that family is dealing with the plague, I hope you don’t have to as well. Playing outside isn’t that risky, but Covid is a sneaky bitch.

Our Chewy order was delivered today and I suddenly thought to check them for birdseed. It’s only about half what I’ve been paying and it’s even less with auto-ship. I could have been paying less and had those heavy bags delivered to our door all this time. I am feeling pretty stupid right now.

I pulled down my open platform feeders and put tube feeders up. I put the treat food in a mesh tube and the Grosbeak figured it out right away so that’s cool. I understand the Cardinals use them too but I haven’t seen the Cardinals since the Starlings moved in. I’m still trying to figure out what to do about the Thrashers, I don’t think their legs will let them eat from the mesh tube. They are OK with the suet holders, maybe I can figure something out for them, they are the most important birds in our yard for me.

baker, Mauser will probably be happy with frequent visits to the parque para perro. You may enjoy visiting with the other humans there too.

shoe, I’m on the bandwagon about the AM. Make sure that all interactions with him are in front of witnesses or on camera. From an old inventory person, there are endless ways to steal from the inside.

Welcome back rebo! I’m sorry about your pupper, but Lola is absolutely adorable! Small dogs rock (my boy is about twice her size, but has the small dog attitude).

jane the cane, Chewy is why I can buy quality food for Nelson in 28# bags. They deliver right to my door, where a hand truck makes it possible to bring it inside.

Irked, picked up prescriptions (considerably less than before the med review), came home and et. I’m fixing to change back into winter PJs , given the chill right now and what’s predicted for overnight :whine: Are we everrrrrrrrr going to get to wear summer clothes this year? :whine over:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
