Can we please have a better week in the MMP?

Alright, y’all, I’m calmer than yesterday. Here’s some more updates from The Restaurant Job:

All y’all telling me to CYA and make sure everything is on camera, etc? Yeah, A.M. gave me the same advice today. Thought that was interesting/funny. He went as far as pointing to the camera and then demonstrating how best to angle myself when sitting & counting so everything is visible.

Also wrapped up the day getting my performance review from A.M. in anticipation of tomorrow’s interview.
… y’all, I did AMAZE-BALLS :tada: one item was “meets expectations” and all the rest were either “exceeded expectations” or just simply “outstanding.”

I dunno, it’s hard to reconcile the man I worked with today with the boogeyman I’d sort of imagined yesterday.
It doesn’t mean I trust his fat ass any further than I could throw him, but it was good to hear him say nice things about my work. I bust my tail off at this job, and I appreciated knowing it’s been noticed.

That said, he and the owner are tight like friends since childhood tight, so I’m not gonna breathe a single bad word about him to Big Kahuna. I’m stupid sometimes, but I ain’t dumb. But I do have faith that the good things he said to my face were passed up to him, too, so tomorrow’s sit-down should be smooth.

Basically, I have to explain why I back-tracked, having already turned down the manager gig twice. (Boils down to a lack of personal confidence in myself at the time, and lack of professional confidence e.g. I woulda had no f’ing clue what I was doing, back then.)

Otherwise, I have more confidence in my ability to land this promotion than I’ve ever had in my entire work life.

… and that, my dear Mumpers, is a helluva good feeling.

Howdy Y’all! Cleanin’ lady spiffed da cave, laundry got laundered and put away even, sup got cooked and et. Nappage was also achieved lest y’all think I am not attendin’ to my usual slothful ways.

{{{Rebo}}} ::tacklehug:: welcome back. Sorry about your doggo, but yay for Lola! She is a cutie pie and I want to give her many, many skritches!

Nettie great pics of Allie, Misty, and Buddy. I am also enjoyin’ the adventures of Buddy and Allie. Buddy sounds like he has it made with humans all over the place to attend to his needs and desires.

shoe yay for the interview tomorrow. I am sure you will ace it. Also conga rats on the good performance review. AM is still not to be trusted, however, IMO.

missred, half the fun of the dogpark is sitting and visiting. One only has to get up to clean up after the dog.

Rebo, glad to see you in here again. I’m still keeping track of the points on the other boards deathpool, and after looking at your list again I am very sorry to say I’m sad you have no points.

Evening all. Got my gym time in (set the bicycles for calories, they say I burned 500 of those rascals, so that is good). Then managed not to fall asleep on the couch and got my walk in, so some good exercise today…which of course I ruined with Mac-n-Cheese and Pepsi’s tonight…Still, I am eating/drinking the same as pre-exercise and doing more, so that’s a good thing, isn’t it?

Need to start on the packing and traveling list, leaving next Wednesday for Seattle, and about a week after that, Portland. Got all my documents and paperwork, just need to make lists so I cover everything.

Rebo, nice to meet ya, and while I’m sorry for your loss, Lola is a cutie-pie.

And Nettie, your pet collection is pretty neat, too…Love how Buddy just looks like he’s been there all along.

FCM, I know you have to worry about your in-laws, but by now apparently nothing will prevent them from doing things, even if they are wildly illogical. Best for them (and you and FCD). And hope the tree hangs in there until the $$ are available.

talkie, if your daughter and you don’t have the same ‘conversation’ at least 8-10 times a year for the next 6 years, you have an abnormally great kid…

Sari, glad you survived the drive.

shoe, sounds like you’re doing well, just keep an eye on things and never forget Murphy is lurking.

OK, need to finish internettin’ and watch a little basketball, so all y’all take care.

If I had a $#!tload more time, I’d cross-stitch this. That is an excellent warning.

Okay, I have obtained necessary groceries. Now I gotta call my mother.
Eventually, dinner.

Someday? Laundry, etc. But not today, Satan; not today.

So a friend of mine had a can of raspberry “soda” (containing nothing but carbonated water, fruit purée, and fruit juices) in the back of his fridge. At some point, the can bulged so much that the top and bottom became convex, and it sprang a leak that created “blood spatter” on the back wall of his fridge.

Neither of us can figure out how this might’ve happened. Anyone got an idea?

I am very tired. All I did was walk errands. But I didn’t sleep much last night for some reason. At the grocery store, a random guy stopped me to tell me a long story about his quest to find horseradish, and I almost dozed off.

Shoe, you should be VERY proud! That’s a stellar evaluation for a stellar job done. And I’m SO happy your confidence level is up where it belongs (or at least in the neighborhood). I agree it’d be dumb to plant any seeds of doubt with the boss’s boss since they’re old buddies. The fact they’re tight sets off my alarm bells–AM would always be believed over you–but hopefully, that won’t be an issue, and when you have several months of managing under your belt, you can get a management position elsewhere. I’d hire you in a heartbeat!

Leaper, was the sparkling fruit juice pasteurized? It sounds to me like fermentation ran amok.

MetalMouse, I’m very impressed!

Nice job shoe, but keep up the vigilance.

nellie I prolly would have fallen asleep at some rando talking about horseradish. Get some rest.

I’m still not 100%, so it’s off to bed with me at 10. Got some chills and donwanna eat. I did, but I didn’t like it.

Stay safe and healthy, all!

Fermentation? Can got dropped hard?

Buddy arrived just about the time I was getting up, about 15 minutes ago now (yes, my “sleep pattern” is randomizing again). The Princess is as usual unamused, but we’ve had at least one nose-sniff exchange. Buddy does understand that the fridge is interesting, and he knows about litterboxes (saw him use it).

Buddy definitely knows the treat container. Pulled it down and had two cats patrolling my feet getting vocal. They did get their treats in separate spots with no line of sight. No point inviting a scuffle over food.

Buddy has a couple of other suckers around, of course he knows about treats, LOL!

We first signed up with Chewy because we wanted someone else to carry those heavy bags to our front door. (We don’t use a hand truck, we have a double shelved cart. ) I can remember being shoe’s age and just casually slinging heavy stuff around without a care in the world. This getting old thing can kinda suck.

We now have male Grosbeaks and Thrashers hanging around and doing battle with the Starlings. They do not put up with Starlings, there is no posturing involved, they just start pecking. They haven’t joined forces, but if the Starlings show up when either or both of them are eating, the Starlings get run off…until they are overwhelmed and then they fly away to wait and peck at the leftovers.

We have two sleeping cats and a relaxed bird. All is calm.

For the moment. I’ve dealt with enough multi-cat arrangements to know it’s not going to hold all night. At some point, Buddy will get vocal or Allie will start getting hissy. We’ll enjoy the peace while it lasts.

Bit of a feline disciplinary crisis that resulted in Buddy’s early departure. He made a serious jump at Misty’s cage. Yes, cats are predators, it’s their nature, but they are quite capable of learning to leave other animals alone in a specific setting. Buddy will need to learn that Misty is off-limits. She’s a permanent full-time household member, and he needs to learn the “no eating household members” rule.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 57 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S. for the day. I am up earlier than I want to be, but then I went to bed around eight-thirty last night and pulled an all nighter so I feel real rested. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure comestibles. I am thinkin’ we shall break fast for sup. Pancakes, scrambled aigs, and snausages sound good to me.

Nettie “no eating household members” is definitely a rule that needs to be enforced. Buddy will figure that out eventually I am sure. Maybe none of his other humans have a bird in the household.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire that is proper for bein’ amongst the general peasantry.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

At least this time FIL wasn’t being stubborn and refusing to use his walker - he seems to have learned that much. At 92 with (we think) mild dementia, there’s not a lot anyone can do - we certainly can’t duct tape him to his recliner. I’m sure his frustration level is beyond my comprehension, considering how active he’s been his whole life. I see similar traits in his firstborn.

Back of the fridge got cold enough to freeze? That’s all I’ve got…

Preach it! Standing up can sound like a bowl of rice krispies under a steam roller!! :open_mouth:

General cleaning and tidying on the day’s agenda. I’ve already emptied and started refilling the dishwasher. I’m thinking I’ll start in our bedroom/bathroom and work my way to the other end of the house. I’ve got maybe 2 weeks to get ready for the inlaws - the room they’ll use is currently a disaster, not to mention the hall bathroom.

Plus Roxy’s b-day party has been rescheduled for May 15, so before then, I’ve got to get the basement and its bathroom in order. And I’d love to get some veggies going - I think after these couple of nights of 30s, I’ll do some planting. But that’s a few days away.

My sister and her husband have been emptying their son’s apartment and canceling all his various accounts. I can’t even imagine… FCD and I were talking last night - there are so many things not to say to someone who’s lost a child and nothing you can say to offer real comfort. And Saturday won’t be nearly as difficult for us as for them.

We got statements on our annuities this week - holy crap on a cracker - their combined values plummeted in the first quarter! Fortunately, we don’t need to access them yet, so maybe they’ll recover, but just looking at the numbers was a gut punch. And to think just a few months ago, we were thinking our financial future was all rosy and stuff. Now we’re accepting that there’s no wealthy, mysterious, forgotten relative waiting to dump a gigantic bequest on us. Dammit.

Happy Wednesday anyway…

I’ve had similar encounters. Guarantee I was telegraphing, loudly, via facial expressions, “Dude. WTF. Why me? Why now? Why here, of all places?” but didn’t actually say the words.

Morning all. Annual Doctor’s checkup is at 11:00am, so I’ll be fasting this morning. Also need to stop by my dentist’s office (they are about a mile apart), I lost my appointment card and need to make sure it doesn’t fall during my vacation time (or re-schedule). Would also like to get my swimmin’ in and need to pick up my dry cleaning, so that should be enough to keep me busy most of the afternoon. Temperature is supposed to be in the 70’s and no rain, so that will be nice.

FCM, I’ve seen my annuities fall too, still getting my monthly money from them and my financial adviser says all will be well, but it’s still something to watch.

Nettie, sounds like Buddy still has some feral habits he needs to break–or have you break them for him. Hopefully he’s bright enough to figure this out.

Jane the Cane, hope the Bird Wars get sorted out.

Leaper, possibly it’s alive and attempting to eat/mate with the avocados??

nellie, never had somebody start a conversation with me unbidden like that; of course I’m 6’2" so maybe that helps. Did have a guy sitting outside of Kroger (they have a Starbucks on-site with outdoor seating) screaming bad words at…apparently nothing, unless he had an earbud (and I wasn’t going to get close enough to him to find out).

OK, onward into the day. All y’all take care.

I have people stop me and tell me random things, too. I’m not quite sure why - my kids have told me I look like a serial killer, so I’m pretty sure I don’t have one of those more receptive faces. Or maybe I just look like that when I’m with my kids?

It’s chilly and gorgeous today - yay! Kids have just gotten off to school and I’m sitting on a portion of this audit that doesn’t have much to do with me. Also yay. shoe, congrats on your great review!

I’m gonna go out & check my new dogwoods in a bit. I’m not quite sure why, mostly to see how sticky the soil is to decide whether I need to mix in some sand to avoid root rot. I may be taking this too seriously. I seem to be collecting a jungle of orphan plants that will not die, and I can’t bring myself to toss them out, so I’m finding new pots for them so they won’t cannibalize each other.

I read that as adult and was confused about how that doesn’t have much to do with you.

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I hope I can remember all your nicknames.

Mooom - that’s too bad about FIL. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Double ended sick is the worst.
shoe - that’s great about the review! From what I’ve read, I would definitely CYA against the AM, even if he did give you a glowing review.

Seanette - I love the kitty drama and pics!

nellie - nice to meet you, too! I meant to put music notes in that bit, but I don’t know how on my phone. Mr Rebo sings that all the time - but that’s the only words we know by heart!

dogbutler - hey backatcha! Feel better.

Sahirrnee - thanks for the Lola story! Ick on the dead mouse. Someday I’ll tell the story of the dead rat in the house.

swampy - :picks self up off of floor: Nice ta see you, too! I’ve missed your Jawja weather reports, and the tales of sloth by the ceemint pond.

Baker - thanks for the welcome! Seems to me I should have some dead politicians by now, don’t you think? Maybe they’ll start killin’ each other off to shut them up!

metal_rat “Never forget Murphy is lurking” should be everybody’s motto. Nice to meet you, too.

Gotta go now - irk meeting is happening any minute now…
