And the Cards are on their way to the World Series!
At least, that’s how it worked out in Triple Play 2001 on my Playstation.
IRL I’m just glad we won’t be swept.

Hey Crunchy,What was that you were saying about Rick Ankiel the other day?
Crunchy, your Cards let me down! They’re playing like gutless wonders. Why won’t they run on Mike Piazza? Christ, you’d think he was Pudge Rodriquez back there.
I blame you.
Oh, now all of a sudden they’re my Cards.
Rich - I’m too bummed out to go searching for what I said about the rookie. He obviously doesn’t have the mental make-up to be a big game pitcher this early in his career, although during the regular season he broke the Cardinal record for most strikeouts by a rookie (previously held by Dizzy Dean). His record doesn’t tell the whole story of how good he was in the regular season. Since LaRussa and Duncan would often pull the rookie early to save his arm, he got a lot of no-decisions that the Cards would go on to win. But he’s too young and too inexperienced to pitch the big games I guess.
And what the hell was LaRussa thinking pitching Kile on short rest? Yesterday’s game was not do-or-die and he pitched Kile on short rest? Now it’s do-or-die and Pat Hentgen is our pitcher, who hasn’t pitched since the regular season. Why couldn’t LaRussa have used this well-rested pitcher yesterday and have our ace well-rested for today’s do-or-die game?! Or he could have used Matt Morris, who is pitching excellently after coming back from Tommy John surgery. Morris is a starter anyway who’s been pitching from the bullpen to build his arm strength up. After building up the arm all season, I’m sure we could’ve gotten at least 5 quality innings out of Morris. Bad managing.
I will say this for the Mets: at least they’re winning clean. Not many bad calls by the umps that I’ve seen, the Cards are just being out-played.
BTW - The Cards are now a game up on the Yankees in Triple Play 2001* for the World Series. (Cards 2 games, Yankees 1 game)
Go cyber-Cards! Kick cyber-Yankee ass!
Ready to eat these words, o crispiest of amphibians?
:: Preparing for subway series ::
Eat what words, Thespos? In Triple Play 2001 the Cards already made it to the Series. If they lose Game 7, I’ll just reset the game at play again. I can guarantee a Cards victory in that respect.
IRL though, yeah, it looks like a subway series unless we can do to the Mets what the Braves did to us in '96. Although the Braves from '96 probably would’ve beaten the current Cards lineup in the Divisional Series.
Well, if Crunchy Frog won’t claim them, you can call them “my” Cards. Hey, I “discovered” baseball as a child in the late 70’s. I’m used to them losing. I still love 'em.
CF, I’m glad they won on your Triple Play 2001. The Blues won on my husband’s NHL 2000 this May too.
SoMoMom, it’s not that I’m not claiming them, but spooje had been rooting for the Cards in an earlier thread, but now that they’re down 3-1 they’re suddenly not his team anymore, they’re my team. I still have faith we will win tonight against Hampton and bring it back to St Louis. We will not go quietly into the night. LaRussa is going to make an intelligent choice involoving our pitching staff for game 6, which the Cards win in extra innings. Then we beat up on Bobby Jones in game 7 to advance.
It may look like a subway series is imminent, but don’t think I’ve given up hope yet.
consecutive threads:
Cards over the Mets in 6
Have we gotten this stupid?
actually, this prediction should land under the Jagermeister thread…
I saw those consecutive threads too.
And too top it off, they were both started by me!
As of this writing, a mathematical impossibility.
Re: Cards over the Mets at all … Ain’t gonna happen, either. Metsies clinch tonight. Got yer tokens, everyone? Stay together. Get with a buddy and we’ll meet back at the ticket gate after the game.
Yes yes, I know. Of course, if you’d read the OP, you’d know that the thread title is about my Triple Play 2001 game I’ve been playing on my Playstation.
In the imaginary world, the Cards have won and are now playing the Yankees in the World Series.
Of course it’s in the imaginary world. Lie down for a while, you’ll feel better shortly.
But I don’t want to lie down and feel better.
I like it in my own world. They know me here.
The 7 to the 4, Dave, my man?
You got it, pally. I’ll meetcha by the Deegan.
