This was yet another episode with a lot going on. Ben has sure changed a lot since the end of last season. I wonder who is going to get the blame for the accident with Colossus? I guess it could be blown over in the episodes if it was just a way for Sampson to get to witness Ben’s powers. Still, if it’s not blown over my money would be on Jonesy getting the blame, but Burly being at fault. I liked the baggage trailer showing up again.
The little encounter between Sampson and the he-she was pretty funny. I cracked up over the innuendo when Sampson’s knife was bigger than the he-she’s. Wasn’t Sabina just mentioning that?
A few seconds before the end, a scene was fading to black. I looked at my girlfriend and said, “Sofie is going to be Justin’s new maid.” The scene fades in to Justin staring at a maid from behind. My GF says something like, “she’s not square enough to be Sofie.” The maid stands up and Sofie’s big shoulders become visible. GF, “Oh well.” I’m thinking Sofie is going to be in for a bad time for a while.
Stroud’s hand isn’t looking too good. I wonder if that will slow him down any?
Jonesy has problems now. “Don’t call Rita Sue mom just yet.”
I thought is was a good episode. I’m going to have to try to catch it again.
This was my favorite episde of the season, possibly of the series. I’m espeically excited by the development of Ben’s powers. There’s what, 4 more episodes left? I’m really looking forward to them, but it’s killing me because we’ll probably have another 18 month wait before the 3rd season…
I figure there will be. I don’t think that they’ll wrap up the whole story in the last episodes (there’s 4 left). Plus, it’s got enough of a following that HBO will hear the cries of thousands if they left it hanging after this season.
I’m thinking (hoping) that her encounter with Ben will serve as a vaccination, of sorts. Justin might have trouble poking around there. (Tasteless pun intended.)
Nothing happens on Carnivale without a reason.
That whooshy sound when Samson and Ben were talking was downright freaky.
I haven’t heard or seen any indication that there wouldn’t be a third season. The head of programming at HBO commented at the William Paley Festival last year that HBO was committed to Carnivale and its story.
I’m going to have to figure out a way to watch it while in Japan, or just suffer until DVDs come. What did Managment say before dying? I had the volume set too low to make it out.
Great episode. I thought they were going to give it all away early this season, and I’d stop caring, but nothing could be further from the truth. The last three episodes have been three of the best of the whole series.
Something I forgot to ask last week–for a lot of the first season, we didn’t see or hear anything from Management. In fact, in one episode, Jonesy (I think it was him) actually went into the trailer and pulled back the curtain to find that there was no one there. Then they started portraying Management as a voice, then as the occasional hand or cigarette, then last week we saw him as a real person. So what was the deal when Jonesy looked and no one was there?
Trap door. Heh. I guess if Management could make a baggage trailer appear and disappear at will, he could probably do the same with his body. Just chalk that up as one of the mysterious powers that avatars have. Samson wasn’t shocked at his appearance, so one would assume that Management did show himself to him.
Best scene was when Stroud popped a couple into Bonnie & Clyde. At least I assumed that was them Pity he did the same to the poor gas attendant though.
Sophie showing up at Justin’s was the most obvious “suprise” in the history of television. I saw that coming three episodes ago.
There should be a third (and most likely final) season. I read that they planned for a third season when they started to make the second one. Had this ended up being Soprano’s level popular, there would have been more.
For the most part, the whole mythology has finally been revealed. Now it’s just the chase.
When Jonesy told Samson no one was there, Samson said something along the lines of, “If he don’t want to be seen, he won’t be.” Seems to be one of his powers as a prophet.
I too love the fact that they are revealing so much, and yet the show is still mysterious and compelling. I think it has a lot to do with pretty much everyone involved really caring about the project - thank goodness for HBO. We all know what would have happened if a network had bought Carnivale.
Am I the only one thinking Libby’s headed for some major tragedy? Remember how Sofie read in the cards that she’ll be dancing the cootch the rest of her life.
I figure either things go really bad with Jonesy really fast, or she actually gets killed. Certainly a possibility considering the preview for next week.
Yeah, that was a pretty good scene. Its always interesting whenever we see Stroud pop up. Going to be interesting to see what happens when he and Justin finally meet.
I suppose the kids were actually Bonnie & Clyde wannabes…the real Bonnie & Clyde were killed in 1934. The Louis vs. Baer bout a couple of episodes back established the current year as being 1935.
But we know from Samson’s opening monologues that Ben and Justin are the last of the avatars. I hope that means that if there is a baby, it can be a “normal” person…and not that all of Ben’s (and Justin’s) family is killed.
