I just had a look, and the quotes you give were a response to similar remarks --worse and unprovoked-- directed at Dio.

I think it takes some pretty immature and callous reasoning to set those up as equivalent. Person A started a thread full of personal troubled emotions and was called out for being a liar. Person B, who has nothing at stake in the conversation, should be able to step back and respond more empathetically, levelly, and maturely.

The thing you chastised the grieving father for was referring to an actual pregnancy (i.e. not a blighted ovum or something similar) as a baby. (In those circumstances, I would opine that the distinction between a fetus and a blighted ovum is one without a difference anyway.)

So the excuse I quoted above was, in fact, a lie. I see that you at least had the decency to apologize in that thread but frankly, an actually decent person wouldn’t have posted it in the first place.

I’m not getting into this beyond saying that if anyone wants to decide for themselves, they should read Dio’s first post in that thread, Olive’s response, and Dio’s response to that. I know which poster I find more moderate and justified.
