Chill out dude. I explained myself. If you think I think ONLY ivory tower types are smart you are totally off base. Read my post again. Hell, I think some of them can’t find their ass with their own hands. But they generally DO have a good grasp of basic logic and reason, which is what you need to see that the Dio show is a crock of shit. Again, not that they are the only ones.

I think the thing that makes many of us wonder WTF is going on, is that it seems to many that the moderation is not even handed when it comes to Dio.
I’ve seen people get smacked by monitors for much less jerky behavior, but Dio seems to get a pass. Always. And any admonishment given always comes with an explanation and usually another poster gets warned as well.
The only reason I can come up with (and I’ve mentioned it before) is that Dio, for better or worse, generates traffic. That traffic increases visits to the board, which increases the standing of the board’s place on the Board Food Chain. Connected to the rank of traffic to a board is advertising rates, which might just take a dip if Dio were banned. The method of dealing with Dio seems to be working just fine in this thread. May it continue as long as he continues to post on this board. No reaction = no attention = no need to continue the antics.
I would respect the mods much more if they’d just tell us the truth instead of acting like 1) they don’t know what all of the Dio-bashing posters are talking about and 2) The problem really lies with everyone BUT Dio. That’s just nonsense, and everyone knows it.
Or maybe I’m full of crap, and Dio’s 50+ posts a day do not in any way help increase board traffic.

The difficulty of modding Dio is that it’s a gradual escalation and there’s rarely a single post you can point to where you can say “ok, this is over the line, here’s a warning”. He’s not telling people they should die or blatant rules violations like that.
So then where do you pick the post to warn him for? You could pick any post in his gradual derailment of a thread and warn him, but then he could say “well wait, what’s this? I’ve done this level of derailment a hundred times before, why am I being warned now?” - it’s ironic, but how frequently he behaves badly is actually protecting him now because he’s gone so long without consistently being warned.
So then the mods are in a tough position. They may agree Dio is bad for the boards, but they’re worried how they’d frame punishment in terms of consistency and precedent. If they just decide to up and ban Dio for consistent assholish, annoying, vaguely trolling behavior, they’re probably afraid that a bunch of people would come out of the woodwork screaming “well poster X is also really obnoxious and annoying, ban them too!” and then they’d have to justify why Dio is a special case.
This isn’t to defend the moderator’s actions, though. If this is the issue, I think they’re wrong. Dio has enough of a body of work to indeed justify that he is a special case. They shouldn’t allow the precedent of gradually escalating and consistent bad behavior to actually protect him now - they’re rewarding him for fucking up the boards when they do that.
It’s not merely an issue of ignoring Dio. He derails threads like no other. He takes what could be good, interesting discussion on this board and actually destroys it. He destroys content, good content. You can’t simply ignore Dio and continue on with the discussion most of the time, because not everyone will do it, and the thread becomes the dio show, and now the interesting thread that you wanted to read before is gone. He probably destroys more content than any other 5 people on the boards. He is a singular force of board wrecking.
So they should take action on him, and say that the only precedent in doing that is “if you manage to fuck up the damn boards constantly for a few years despite never quite posting something that, in isolation, is completely over the line, we’ll consider taking action against you too”. I think their fears of setting a precedent are overblown, because everyone can see Dio is a special case - a singular natural disaster constantly randomly wrecking parts of our boards. No one else would have the body of work justification that Dio would, and hopefully no one ever will.
I think almost all of the board is in general agreement on this one, and that the mods know it would be better for the boards, but they’re afraid of dealing with the fallout. Well, inaction has a pretty high cost.
I think ElvisL1ves just has a little board war going on in his head. He said the same thing about Fenris a while back and when I called him on it with a link he gave a “What the fuck ever” response.

As a corollary, if everybody is telling you that guy is a jerk, and you’re in a position of power with a Don’t be a jerk rule, maybe you should do something about it. I’m done blaming Dio, he’s just another a raging asshole internet bully who derails almost every thread he touches and makes them about him. I blame the moderation that, after all these years, still let him do it.
OK here’s a proposal to deal with his intractability: Why doesn’t EVERYONE put him on their ignore list. That way no one ever sees his posts, no one reacts to them and good threads don’t get derailed then locked.
As has been covered, that’s just not possible. There’s too many people on the board (including new comers) for that to work out. Even if the 50 people right now that are really annoyed with him do that and don’t interact with him he’ll find someone else to torment. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been on this board since 1999, I never, not once interacted with him until just a few months ago, it wasn’t until about 3 or 3 pages deep when I said “WTF is going on” and walked out, but most people don’t do that.
Sure, we can all ignore him, but a new group of people will be having a pit thread next month.
