Oh, all kinds of stuff:
the “Gladiator” soundtrack
Great Big Sea, “Rant and Roar”
Kila, “Tog E Go Bog E”
this Amazon rain forest CD (very soothing; rain and birds and monkeys and more rain)
different Lifescapes CDs, “Summer Thunder” and “Scottish Moors” and such
literally? At this moment? Syd Barrett’s The Madcap Laughs.
The Clash, by the Clash.
AP Presents Industrial Strength Machine Music: A framework of Industrial rock 1978- 1995.
Meat Puppets, Up on the Sun.
Elliot Smith. that one’s Steve’s.
At this very moment? The soundtrack to Chess. I bought it based on one of the threads on this board.
Right now my regular rotation includes:
Dire Straits: Making Movies
The Best of the Who
Matchbox Twenty: Mad Season
REM: Green, Out of Time, and Automatic for the People
I generally change my rotation after a couple of weeks.
I don’t have a CD player here at work, but the CD playing in my head at the moment (help keep the voices out) is Steve Earle’s newie Transcendental Blues. Killer.
HenrySpencer.
Not listening to anything at the moment. I like it quiet while I work. But being alternately stuck in either the 1980’s or the 18th century, I have The Police, Journey, etc. and Vivaldi and Mozart cued up to play at a moment’s notice.
Wohoo! New CD’s!
Lagwagon… Let’s talk about leftovers.
The Red Elvis’… I wanna see you bellydance.
Killer.
Right now: Hot by the Squirrel Nut Zippers
Others making the rounds:
The Best of Louis Jordan by Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five
Midnite Vultures by Beck
Jump Blues and More Jump Blues compilations by Rhino Records
Come Out Swingin’ by Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums

"In my car on the drive in to work this morning:
The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God. Best damn album to come out of the 80s."
Dude, we should carpool!
also,
I’ve recently discovered Me First and The Gimme Gimmes.
God I love these guys. They do punk covers of classic 80’s 70’s tunes. Just wondeful. Can’t get enough.
Wait! I think I’ve heard those guys! Do they do a version of John Denver’s “Leaving on a Jetplane” (if that is inded what the song is called)? I seem to remember some Barry Manilow as well, but I could be hallucinating.
In my car I’m rotating Filter’s Title of Record, Morphine’s Yes and Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet. At home my CD player sits idle because I’m busy listening to the best mix tape anyone has ever made me, and it’s full of bands I’ve never heard of. Woo hoo! I feel all indie.
What’s up for this morning…
Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer: Brain Salad Surgery
Bruce Springsteen: Born in the USA
My morning lineup: Midnight Oil, Velvet Acid Christ, Led Zeppelin, and Smetana (the Czech composer).
MR
Johnny Cash - Live at Folsom Prison (“I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die”)
Bjork - Debut
Sinead O’Connor - Faith & Courage
The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Going to a free Les Nubians concert tonight!
Guano Apes - Proud Like A God
I’m currently finding this to be my very favorite.
Mr. Cynical, get back in your box!
Robert Cray is awesome no matter what
Weezer, self-titled album. I just replaced a copy that was stolen a few years back. This is one with Buddy Holly and the Sweater Song on it. God damn, I love Weezer. Though I have been told the latest album isn’t that great. And this album makes me think of the music I adored at the time I discovered Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, etc. I’ll have to hit my record store and find them, too.
Ditto on the Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, I adore them. Damn, we Dopers have great taste!
Right this minute: “Green” by REM. I wish I had “Graceland” with me! But I’ll probably listen to “Workingman’s Dead” a little later on.
Wa-! nf-! gg-! …!
Whomever told you this is a low-down, dirty, varmint-squickin’ liar. Pinkerton is a fine album. I actually think I like it better than the first one.
