Celebrity Apprentice II

Joan didn’t cause the event planner to quit.

Was anyone else endlessly entertained by Tom Green in this finale? I know he’s annoying and has trouble staying on task, but he and Dennis managed to do everything they were told and didn’t cause any trouble.

When he told Annie “Don’t worry, there’s at least five minutes of starving kids” I completely lost it.

Oh, and “Let’s go give Annie ideas so she can shoot them down. It’s fun.”

From what we saw, Joan gave no clear direction as to what she wanted. She said she wanted the room transformed - he came up with the idea of white draping with red accents. Her response “Blaaah”. When he came back with the red draping, she said it would look like hell. He had another suggestion and her response was “Blaaah” again. If she had given a clear direction and the guy went against it, she would have a reason to be upset (but not insulting).

But there was no clear direction. Annie gave clear direction (with all her faults, she knows what she wants and how to communicate it). Melissa was right when she pointed out that Joan was used to working with her people who already knew what her likes and dislikes were. She treated this guy like he was some flunky when he is actually the owner/founder of a well respected NYC design group.

IMO, the event planner had a professional obligation to let Annie know that they were not going to help as soon as it was decided. Whatever the reason was, Annie was left hanging.

As far as the three out of five tasks, I guess it was a black or white criteria. Either you were the best or you lost, no matter how close it was.

Annie raised three times as much money, but i don’t think Joan was three times better than Annie in the three tasks that she won. Of course those criteria were subjective rather than objective.

That desiger, David Tutera, has his own show on We called “My Fair Wedding” and apparently he’s really good at what he does on that show (or so I’m told by the fiancee).

He probably did a “cost/benefit” analysis in his head about being on the Apprentice and decided the exposure of being on the show wasn’t worthwhile if it was going to make him look incompetant.

They had to be. If there had been objective criteria, Annie would have won those elements as well, and it was necessary (in Trump’s mind, anyway) that Joan win.

I’ve got to side with you on this one, twickster.

How did you come to this conclusion? According to what the event planner apparently told Annie Duke, Joan did indeed cause that.

Well, in Joan’s defense, what he had in mind DIDN’T sound that great, and he seemed not to have any other options for her. A good designer will help figure out what the client wants, not just say “this is what I have, if you don’t like it, tough luck.” I didn’t see anything so bad that the designer had a reason to quit.

The planner quit because he was unprofessional and lazy, not because Joan had said or done anything inappropriate to him.

What a fucking farce. Trump had no intention of letting Annie win. My jaw dropped when Trump scolded Jesse for calling Rodman “stupid” (which wasn’t exactly what he did; he “you’re too stupid to realize that I care,” or something along those lines), yet The Joker said horrible things about Annie and her collegues and Trump didn’t think anything of it.

I wanted Annie to shout over The Joker every time Joker cut her off and said “I won’t let America hear this!” What a creepy old bitch. The finale ruined the season for me and I agree that if there’s a next season the only people who volunteer will be has beens and wannabes with no fund raising ability just looking to get some prime time network air time.

Again, what makes you so absolutely certain that that was the case?

Thanks.

I’m curious – there’s a lot of commentary going on here, but not everyone is stating an opinion about who should have won. Can we do a poll? I don’t want to risk putting words in anyone’s mouth, so I’m not going to interpret anyone’s comments (well, other than Rainbowthief’s “What a fucking farce.” ) and place them in one camp or the other. (JThunder, are you siding with me on Tom being an asshole, Joan being a psycho, or the fact that Dio and I are never going to agree?)

Maybe give me half a vote because literally all I watched of the whole season was the last hour and a half of the finale, and that only with one eye. (I was doing laundry and ironing.)

I thought Annie should have won based on what I saw, how she conducted herself versus how Joan conducted herself, and the criteria for winning as I understood them.

I thought Joan Rivers came across as crazy as a shit-house rat.

I thought Trump came across as a pompous ass (surprise!) who wasn’t listening. He’d ask a question and if the person didn’t answer as he wanted he’d say “I don’t want to hear that” or “Let’s move on.”

I thought that based on how ALL the celebrities behaved and the incidents they rehashed, that many of them had apparently embarrassed themselves and/or really lowered themselves during the course of this season (including both Annie and Joan), which made me glad I hadn’t watched more of it. I’m not above some good personal conflict/drama, but I get embarrassed for people who are embarrassing themselves.

Frankly, just based on the finale my overall thought was “Wow, what an undignified clusterfuck.”

Mark me down in the **Annie **column.

All of those points, so I am firmly in your camp.

We can now summarize the poll results as follows:

Annie should have won

I watched the show from the beginning of the season, but didn’t catch the finale last night. Based on that, I think Annie should have won too. That’s not saying that I like or respect Annie, but I think Joan’s behavior was just way over the top. Annie is a numb, heartless person that frankly gives me the willies, but she did better than Joan throughout the entire season.

Of course, if I had my way, it would have been Annie against Jesse James or Brande Roderick, not Joan Rivers. I don’t get why she was even selected to be in the final two in the first place.

My best guess is that Trump had to promise her victory in order to keep her from quitting the show. Either that, or somebody reminded her that she would probably win anyway, since Trump would be disinclined to piss off powerful celebrities who wield influence over the New York scene.

Just a guess, mind you. I do find it hard to explain her victory through any other means though, especially after the favorable edits that Annie Duke got early in the season.
