Another great recapfrom Dalton Ross.
And singular1 – interesting! That explains a lot.

Of course, from Lisa’s and Aubrey’s POV, bullying is allowed if the target is unreasonably/unfairly beautiful.
Bullying the pretty girl is a way to get back at the junior high bullies who messed with Lisa and Aubrey.
:smack:
I thought Aubrey was a cheerleader in school. I bet she wasn’t bullied at all except for the random bullying the popular girls do with each other while they search for their real target.
I guess I’ll ask one more time. During the presentation, did anybody see what was on Aubrey’s arm after the I and the heart? Was it “I
GS”?
I didn’t notice the details of her arms at all.
Man oh man, what an episode. First things first, Good Sam? It’s been around since the '60s, and nobody has ever heard of it? Oh, it is an RV club thing, so unless you owned an RV, you had no reason to know about them. Now they want to broaden their market to compete with OnStar. Good Sam, with an oversized head,
a goofy grin and a squiggly halo. Yeah, that’s a great mascot.
Dayana, Dayana, Dayana… <sigh> I can totally see what she was thinking. She knew both Clay and Lisa didn’t care for her, didn’t think she could contribute, doesn’t have talent. She took on the PM job hoping that that way she could exert influence, not be sidelined, and therefore play a role. Sadly, she just shot herself in the foot. It’s not that she didn’t have any experience or ability to contribute creatively, it’s that she didn’t recognize her lack of ability and tried to contribute anyway. She went from being useless to being an active hindrance to her team. It’s really saddening that someone so sweet was so clueless.
I volunteer to cuddle and comfort her from the big meanies.
I don’t know what was worse, her not knowing musical styles so they had to give her a tutorial in order to convince her they had a good plan, or her creative suggestions once they got a style. “Let’s have a woman dressed as a hippie come out.” Her inability to fit the meter of the song, or to rhyme. Her comment after the band played a sample tune in the style they used that they make it more pink, or maybe yellow. Clay was flabberghasted (“Why not add some green while you’re at it.”) The looks of utter loss on the musicians’ faces was priceless.
I can’t tell if that had some meaning for her in Spanish, if she was just clueless how to express what she wanted, if she suffers from synesthesia, or if she was stabbing in the dark with a plastic spoon hoping she’s spear something useful. Holy crap. Yes, this task really illuminated just how useless her creative ideas have been.
Now the thing is, she might could have done this differently and perhaps saved herself. Knowing she wasn’t the creative talent, knowing that music wasn’t something she was suited for, she takes on the PM role to play a part. But then she relies on the talents of her team. She says, “Clay, given your musical background, how would you approach this jingle? What would you do first? Come up with words and messages for the lyrics? Work on the beat?” When Clay and Lisa suggest a style, ask, “I’m not sure I’m familiar with that, can you sing something to give me a feel?” But it’s hard to be an active PM when you don’t know enough to even constructively criticize the choices given.
Lisa was completely unhinged once again. Now I will grant that Lisa was a bit provoked on that one. Dayana telling Don Jr about their activity, and lauding Clay for his creativity and singing and writing, and completely ignoring Lisa and her efforts, and then characterizing Lisa as just being loud as usual. That was not a fair characterization at all, and Lisa was certainly justified in being upset by that. But Lisa… I would almost think that was a deliberate ploy on Dayana’s part to provoke that explosion in front of Don Jr. I mean, she can’t fight Lisa on creativity, so her battleground has to be on poise and demeanor. And Lisa makes it easy. I mean, in any corporate world that kind of explosion would get some serious HR involvement. So she sets up Lisa for a meltdown in front of Don Jr, to prove that Lisa is once again unreasonable, then makes her case in the boardroom that Lisa’s behavior is not appropriate for the business world and not appropriate for Trump to put his seal of approval on by making the Celebrity Apprentice.
The thing is, I agree with her completely on that. Lisa is totally inappropriate. But none of that negates the performance on the task, and on that front, Dayana failed. Not just didn’t contribute, but actively failed. She was unable to direct the project, unable to constructively lead, unable to contribute meaningful suggestions and actively impeded the creative efforts. She wasn’t involved in the presentation, I think she inserted herself in the wrap up as an afterthought, probably thought it up standing backstage. Thus she wasn’t even dressed in the team colors. She was a non-entity in the interview to determine what the customer wanted, a non-entity in the presentation, and an obstacle for Lisa and Clay the whole way. Fail fail fail. So Dayana really was the right one to fire this time around.
Aubrey remains a piece of work. She actively negates and reworks Arsenio’s plans, and right after Arsenio made some comment about how she’s really turned around into a team player. I can see the editors having fun with that one. “Ooh, here’s a clip of Arsenio complimenting Aubrey. Quick, insert it right before she stabs him in the back!” And Aubrey continues to call Arsenio as “shifty”. Ha!
And I’m trying to figure out how Teresa made it this far in the competition. She was enthusiastic and just competant enough not to be eliminated early, and she’s ridden under the radar by not actively contributing creative materials, so her performance has been adequate and overshadowed by other more serious failures. That, or she’s been lucky to be on the winning team. It’s mind boggling.
Clay sang well, Lisa performed well, but their skit was not edgy or risky, no matter what Clay said. Aubrey and Arsenio and Teresa all did well on their presentation. Teresa didn’t sing or dance much, but she did take part in the skit.
Clay has grown an ass, man? Clay is an ass man, groan?
Trump? Are you kidding? All he cares about his how big a smarmy ass he can be. Lisa screaming insults at the PM on her task just shows that Dayana was a lousy PM, because she forced a teammate to throw insults. Yes, Dayana failed as a leader - she let both her teammates push her out of the way even when she was PM. But Lisa’s behavior was totally unprofessional, undignified, and completely obnoxious. But it makes for great TV, so Trump won’t fire her yet.
Yeah, Aubrey really is the best poster child for GLSEN. “Hey, folks, this is what gay bashing looks like!”
A genuine apology doesn’t start out with “I’m sorry that *you…” * A genuine apology owns up to your own role in whatever happened. “Lisa, I’m sorry I omitted your contribution to the writing and that I said that in a way that seemed to mischaracterize your behavior.” That doesn’t really let Lisa off the hook for her overreaction, but it puts the apology on the apologizer, not the recipient of the apology. And to be fair, Lisa was not being loud and obnoxious up to that point. She was struggling with being patient for Dayana’s completely outlandish contributions, but she was mostly keeping in check.
He was trying really hard to keep his cool. You could see him seething with rage, and trying to keep from exploding. Thus he just kinda shut down and drew back. In the end, he decided that what she had come up with was working, that the dancers were already getting the hang, and that it wasn’t worth fighting over it at that point.
Here’s the thing, pretending for a moment that the other team won, how would this have gone down in the boardroom? On the one hand, Aubrey is a backstabbing bitch who blatantly shot down Arsenio behind his back to Don Jr, and did the same thing the previous week with Eric. She did a better job of seeming to look for his input and direction, but then found a way to manipulate it to what she wanted anyway. “I just want to do cheerleaders. Arsenio vetoed cheerleaders, so I’ll just bring it up with the customer.” “I’ll rework the order of the show to suit what I want, instead of what Arsenio suggested.” Now I think she did have a valid point to put Arsenio in the opening skit with Teresa, and she might have had a valid point about relocating the drum solo, as it wouldn’t have made as much sense for Arsenio to grab the drum and lead the parade in to rescue himself. And frankly, she is right that the bulk of the constructive elements came from her. And the same argument made about Dayana being a poor PM because she couldn’t control her team could apply to Arsenio as well.
Assuming they lost, and assuming the reason for the loss was not based upon the theme or the song or the creative elements Aubrey controlled, but because Clay and Lisa were better, then it very likely would have come down to Arsenio being PM and thus the loss, rather than Teresa for just being along for the ride or Aubrey for the ideas. On the other hand, if the ideas or the skit lost it, then Aubrey’s creative role is in question, rather than Arsenio’s leadership, and he could argue that she ran roughshod and made choices behind his back that countermanded his ideas.
Ah, the what if game.
Yep
Oh crap, almost forgot that. You’re sitting there with Clay Aiken and bring up calling Debbie Gipson up? ![]()
So you’ve met Donald Trump?
That explains it. Yes, Aubrey was bullied, in the way the popular girls bully each other when there’s nobody else around to bully.
Aubrey has arms?
Yeah, one on either side of her tits.
That’s pretty funny.
Can’t you see them?
They are constantly over her shoulder patting herself on the back.
For the final show, which of the fired contestants will come back? Which ones won’t? Although Lou was upset when he left, I think he will be back with a smile on his face. I don’t know about Dayana.
Perfect recap of the episode right here!
But for a more detailed and imperfect recap, Lisa is both a bitch and an insufferable phony. What were all those tears about, as though her delicate little feelings were punctured by Dayana not respecting her efforts? As I watched these strained, quasi-existent, uncomfortable “tears” being forced from their ducts, I asked myself who is buying this shit.
Look, I get the whole Dayana = good guy bit has been played up. I would imagine working with her could be frustrating as she isn’t all that great, but she’s certainly no worse than the other not-so-strong players, and Lisa’s hate-on for her defies reason. Lisa’s hated Dayana passionately, more so than anyone else on the show, since day one, Lisa’s her blow ups have been consistently and unreasonably over the top. Sheer incompetence alone cannot inspire such ire. Lisa is just a petty, hateful bitch.
That said, “She is the female Lou Ferrigno and I object to that” LOL. I fucking died when I heard that. I died!
Also, it was clear from the beginning that this was the “Fine! We’ll Finally Fire Dayana” episode. The whole production was framed to highlight her shortcomings and she was at last, after something like seven boardrooms, taken to task for her performance. Ah well. She should have been cut ages ago, but I wanted her to stick around just to piss off Lisa.
Clearly, so did the producers.
Is anyone actually rooting for any of the remaining celebrities? Teresa is, amazingly, probably the only one who hasn’t had at least a minor melt down or been a complete bitch at some point. But she is also the weakest remaining player.
I’m definitely rooting for Clay. Despite his snittiness this past week – which I think he was driven to – he’s proven to be creative and cooperative.
Plus his live-tweeting of the show is usually pretty doggone entertaining.
I’m rooting for Aubrey.
I first started rooting for her when it was clear she was smarter than she appeared early in the season and then the bitchfest started. It’s weird how similar her and Lisa are in that they are backstabbing hypocrites and feel that personal insults are acceptable while condemning others for doing it. Whenever they are attacked the crocodile tears come out and they are the abused one. Those two take so much pride in their work and yet they are the driving force on so many losing projects.
But while Lisa is just an ugly (inside) person, with Aubrey it’s the self-superiority of someone that truly believes they are better than everyone else which may be a little more forgiving since Lisa is hateful and Aubrey is just clueless. Also, Lisa talks about how great she is outside of CA to justify what she does on CA while Aubrey just focuses on what she is bringing to the project. I also think that she came into CA to play the game viz. what does it take to win and she wins in the boardroom before Mr. Trump ever calls them in. She may be one of the greatest CA players ever in a Hantzian sort of way. Oh and Aubrey has a history of doing charity work before CA. All I can find for Lisa’s pre-CA charity was a publicity stunt when Westboro decided to protest her.
Speaking of Russel Hantz, what about a Celebrity Apprentice good vs. evil?
Evil: Omorosa, Meatloaf (the anger issues), Lisa Lampinelli, Annie Duke (IIRC), Star Jones [this is an easy list to come up with]
Good: Penn Gilette, Dayana Mendoza, La Toya Jackson, [a harder list to develop]
Who else would you put on those teams?
Why does Annie Duke deserve to be on the evil list? She was a great player who deserved to beat Joan Rivers, who really is a bitch (if not evil).
That’s why I put IIRC. I thought she was a real bitch on the show but I may have been confusing her game persona with her real-life one. If I’m remembering incorrectly let’s take her off the list.
The past 2 winners, John Rich and Bret Michaels, were both really good dudes. I had the pleasure of rooting for Bret from day 1 of that season, so that was satisfying. The more I saw John Rich last season, the more I liked him. This season there has not been one person that really impressed me throughout. I like Clay and Arsenio, but they have both had their moments. I guess I’m rooting for Arsenio at this point because he seems to have really turned it around after his giant Aubrey-instigated meltdown.
Yup. I actually became something of a John Rich fan because of how stand up he is. I still don’t like his music, but if I saw him on the street or something, I’d say hello.
