Celebrity Apprentice (spring 2012) [edited title]

Regarding the women, remember also that it’s Trump’s personal preference to have beautiful young (and potentially inexperienced and/or clueless) women on his show. Which is his (obviously sexist) prerogative. That said, he does often dispense with the men/women split at some point (after a few losses) and mix up the teams.

I missed the season premiere, then caught the 1 hour summation and episode 2 the following week. I am trying to convince myself not to watch this train wreck. Trump is such an egostistical bore, and I want to slap him silly. Except it probably wouldn’t take much slapping. And anytime he wants to compliment the women, it just feels so sleezy.

Like his idea for how Dayana Mendoza would contribute to the Midieval Times show was to be naked. So she ends up wearing a “nude” bodysuit to do a Lady Godiva. (Except to me that didn’t say “nude”, that said “woman in a tan body suit”.) So of course he makes sure to ask her about that. “And you were naked?”

And as others said, I hate that some challenges are dual “do this task” and “raise donations” tasks, that are ultimately judged by the dollar total raised. It’s like the business acumen and the organization and all that is worthless. Sure, there are other challenges that those matter on, but there are too many that are just donation gigs.

The only reason I can see for having the mixed gig like that is so that the people who don’t have big name contacts to hit up can do something for that episode to look like they contribute. “Hey, I worked my ass of making sandwiches and getting people into the store and generally doing anything that needed to be done. I don’t know any celebrities or rich people, but I contributed everything I could.” Still, seems unfair on the judging.

Which they managed to do the following week.

I do. I still have the cassette. (Someday I need to convert those over to digital format.)

AMEN!! If there’s actually a risk of her getting hit crews involved, then she shouldn’t be on the damned show. If not, shut the fuck up already. It’s not funny, it’s creepy. It makes me uncomfortable and I’m not a contestant.

Yep, Trump is a sleezy pig.

I love how she was trying to point out that Midieval Times is a family environment, and that they ought to make the show have things for the kids. Every time she tried to make a contribution, she got told to shut up by Lisa. She got sent on a shopping trip with Victoria Gotti because Lisa wanted to get them two out of her way. It’s not her fault she didn’t contribute more to the final show, every time she tried the PM shut her down and shut her out. So then Don Jr. stated that one of the things the audience commented on was that there wasn’t anything for the kids. Hurray! I sure as hell hope that comes up again. Just because she’s a pretty face doesn’t mean she doesn’t have good ideas or can’t be a hard worker.

I had to refresh my memory, she was in The Mummy as one of the Egyptian chicks. Fighting with sai’s, IIRC.

Yes, the women had dozens of donors, and scored an opening challenge record, and the men were sorely behind on the fundraising until the last minute, when 1 anonymous donor throws in $300,000. Right. That’s fucked up.

Hell yes, she screamed - actually screamed - at all the others about not interrupting, but then consistently interrupted others whenever she felt like it, especially Dayana. I can understand the PM needing to establish a rule of order so everyone can complete a thought, but said PM then needs to use that rule evenhandedly, even against herself.

Yes, I think that should be the proper response. “Mr Trump, I’ll tell you who I’m bringing back to the boardroom when it is real, not when it is hypothetical.” It’s stirring up drama to try to get those kinds of things out before the winning team/losing team is revealed, because one set will then walk off and not have given their hissy fits on camera. I love how before the challenge winner is revealed, team members will say “we did great, everyone contributed”, then after they lose, it’s all about “so and so was a complete goof off, sat on his ass the whole time”. Hey, don’t lie. Either they sat on their ass, which you should point out beforehand, or else just shut up and say “I think we did good” or whatever. But don’t praise every member of your team, especially after we watched you bitching about how other people were dicking around. (Mark McGrath, I’m looking at you. Whining about Jose Conseco sitting in the trailer and then not saying anything about it in the boardroom.)

That’s Trump being a sexist pig. He loves “men vs girls”.

The one catch on that was they were performing in New Jersey, so the show about New Jersey with New Jersey people was very locally topical. But overall, valid point.

Sorry, I don’t remember the names, and my Google attempts aren’t working.

Cartier runs a 3.5 minute commercial near the beginning of the Apprentice! On a show about Ivanka’s jewelry?

We felt neither teams display window looked very good. That had to be a big disappointment for Ivanka.

The best thing was the sign Paul’s shop made.

It was an amazing commercial though.

Maybe, but I was not paying close attention, other than it was taking forever. I really though it was an ad for Jaguar Cars because of the cat in it.
No surprise that the women won. When you got Arsenio as the stylist for three twins there’s not much chance of winning.
I still think both teams displays were a giant mess.

I hope George goes. His leadership style is just non-existent.
First time I’d seen Eric Trump. Spooky how much he looks like his dad. Don jr. doesn’t remind me of daddy Trump at all.
George was a nice enough guy. I did notice he’s been called out on the bottom every single week. He just doesn’t have a commanding personality for this show. Now, if we can just get rid of the Incredible Hulk the men’s team will be a lot better.

Still waiting for Michael Andretti to do something. I have to look twice to see if he’s even still on the team. I hope he’s made manager for next weeks car challenge.
I thought that the women’s team looked worse, but they were probably given a win so that the men wouldn’t be 3 - 0.

Anyone else notice how twitchy Mr. 110% was this week? Although I must admit, he was similarly twitchy in previous weeks. My theory is that in order to maintain his physique, he must exercise 26.8 hours a day. So when his face is twitching, he is actually clenching his buttocks.

I really noticed him being twitchy too. I just thought he was trying to suppress his roid rage.

I loved how someone was able to say with a straight face that Aubrey had “classic elegance.” However, I will give her credit for being able to pull something together when her team was drowning.

I lost my shit at “Teller good.”

Trump is amazingly eloquent.

I was distracted and missed the Teller good setup - what was that?
I vote for RoidTwitch.
Both windows sucked, but I agree that it was a mercy win for the women.
That Cartier commercial was gorgeous!

Lou Ferrigno is some serious entertainment! Man oh man his facial rage twitches are hilarious!

George was pretty much a non-factor as PM, I mean, come ON, when you are in charge of something, wouldn’t it behoove you to actually SEE what things are looking like? Didn’t seem as though George did a heck of a lot of anything, except stand back and let everyone do their thing, as they stepped up to pitch in. Did he actually appoint anyone a task, or didn’t they just speak up and say “here is a good idea, and I can do it.”?

Paul is looking better with each week, as he adapts to the personalities of the group, and how to interact with them. Beautiful to watch, when he pretty much told Lou “we’re trying to work, here; get the hell out of the way!”, but made it seem complimentary, in a way.

On the women’s side, I was not impressed with Dayana at all. She really shrunk under pressure, didn’t seem to assert herself when the idea-machines of Aubrey and Debbie started getting vocal, had absolutely NO CLUE what to do when their photos didn’t show up, and was deferential to her team in the boardroom. Notice how she kept looking to the other women for approval when asked to describe the theme of their display? I’m sure the Trumps did.

Aubrey, who I found annoying the first 2 weeks, is beginning to impress me. She is very creative, assertive, and confident in her ideas. She was also the saviour of the women’s display, when Dayana stood like a statue, in shock and paralyzed by the sudden turn of events. Very impressed with how she pretty much steered Trump away from the boardroom catfight he was trying to incite, by heaping praise onto her teammates and turning the conversation 180 degrees. I noticed that she seemed to be trying to make a lot of eye contact with Don Jr., whenever someone else was speaking.

These non-fundraising episodes are the ones I always enjoy most, and this week’s was no exception. Thoroughly enjoyed.

I’m glad Mr. 110% is still with us. Not because he’s useful or anything but because I’ve created the 110% drinking game and I’m not sure I could get through 2 hours of this stuff sober.

Has Michael Andretti done anything whatsover this season? One armed/anesthetized
Dee Snyder seemed more involved than Andretti.

I’ll miss George. He wasn’t much of a player but he seems like such a good guy, I hate to see good people fired.

I didn’t watch this episode terribly closely, but I was surprised that the women won - I think it was a mercy win, and the fact that there are a number of models on the team probably made it impossible to objectively evaluate the work.

Having said that, it was pretty clear that Takei would not survive. He is a nice guy, yes, but completely ill-suited to lead. I can appreciate his approach - it’s a lot like how I like to lead, but there is a time when you have to assert yourself and make it clear that you are running the show. That never came from George.

Ferrigno is this season’s Dionne Warwick. In that he’s a fairly popular, innocuous celebrity that is rapidly destroying any vestige of a good reputation he may have once had. He’s too cliched, and is taking every aspect of this game way too seriously. I also don’t like his invasion of the other men’s personal space. He does it “jokingly” but I know how people like that operate. There’s always a hint of menace and control behind that stuff. Plus, I’m not sure I trust him not to fly off the handle in a rage when provoked… which could be from too much sunlight, too tight underwear… you just don’t know.

Ha! I’ll go with this theory, as it’ll increase the entertainment value of the show for me by 27%.

Truth.

Agreed. Between her ridiculous hair and how seriously she seemed to take herself and her purported fame, I wanted her to go after watching the first two episodes due to sheer dislike, but she did a great job on yesterday’s episode. I had to suppress my inner hater and acknowledge that she saved the day.

I’m tired of the woman/men split. It’s played out on CA and Hell’s Kitchen. Here’s the teams if you did under 50 years old/50+
Team Noobs: Dayana Mendoza, Aubrey O’ Day, Clay Aiken, Teresa Giudice, Patricia Velesquez, Debbie Gibson, Tia Carrere, Adam Carolla, Michael Andretti*
Team Fogies: Victoria Gotti, Lisa Lapanelli, Arsenio Hall, Penn Jillette, Dee Snider, Lou Ferrigno, Paul Teutul, Cheryl Tiegs, George Takei

 • substituting for his son and although a year older than Gotti, doesn’t she look like she’s in her 70s?

I’d love to see the teams split up this way if for no other reason than to see Senior punch Gotti in the face.
Did anyone else catch the subtle gay bashing Arsenio did? Or an I just reading more into his comments since I remember the Queer Nation fiasco from his talk show.

I predict Aubrey making the top 4 but not having the name recognition to make the final. I have really been impressed with how she is stepping up but whether it’s the pitch of her voice or her inflection, she still sounds like an idiot when she talks.

The Day/Night idea was great and in hindsight, Arsenio should have asked Ivanka to pick her 3 favorite for business wear and 3 favorite for a night out. Then instead of the red carpet they are at a party having drinks.

If Lou of Hulk gives 110% but only 91% of the time, he’s still giving 100%.

Senior has brought more to CA than any other contestant. Whereas most of the celebrities are calling up big doners or celebrity friends to make an apperance, Senior brings bikes down and last night says his ironworks shop will make a sign which incidently kicked ass. I’d like to see him make the top 4 as well.

So my prediction for top 4: Dee Snider for his proven business acumen before CA and not being a pussy, Paul Teutul for already being a winner and his resourcefulness, Aubrey O’Day for actually being a good CA player and . . . ummmm . . . I guess Lisa Lampanelli since she’s a feisty Jew which Trump seems to like and she lost as PM and still didn’t get fired.

Final 2: Snider vs. Lampanelli
