Admit it, you watched. What did you think?
I admit it. I’m sure not proud of it.
As someone who has never seen a boxing match in his life, I found it pretty uninteresting. No real bad attitudes, no scandal, just (what I assume is) pretty weak boxing.
And btw, Robbie expects us to call him “Bipolar” now? Psshhht…
Note to self:
Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, piss off Tonya Harding!
I’m so ashamed…
I missed the first two bouts, but caught the last one. Paula Jones pretty much wussed out in that last fight.
The credits showed clips from the other two fights. It looked like Todd Bridges whaled on Vanilla Ice. Can anyone give me a recap?
I’m gonna go watch an hour of C-SPAN to atone for my sins tonight…
I stuck a recap in this thread.
I hate to admit it, but I kind of enjoyed the fights.
I’m watching it right now. Danny Bonnaducie (SP?) kicked the Brady guys ass. Danny knocked the other guy down 6 times or so and the corner threw in the towel. Not a great fight as the Brady guy threw like one punch. I’ll give a brief recap of the other two as I watch.
Todd Bridges vs. Vannila Ice: Round 1. Opens with Bridges jabbing the hell out of the Ice wimp. Some good punches by Bridges. A flurrie by Bridges and Ice GOES DOWN. ICE GOES DOWN. A good flurrie between the two ends the round. Round to Bridges.
Round 2: Opens with a wicked left by Bridges and then a lot of wild punches. Then two rights by Bridges and ICE GOES DOWN AGAIN. After a standing 8 count Ice backs Bridges into the ropes and lands a few good shots. Bridges comes back shooting rights and lefts again and ICE GOES DOWN. Ice is saved by the bell. Round to Bridges.
Round 3. Both fighters are tired. Ice and Bridges trade shots. Nothing major.
Bridges wins. *Note to self, don’t piss off Todd Bridges.
Tanya Harding vs. Paula Jones: Round 1. A lot of girly (Sorry girls, don’t know what else to call them) punches thrown. Harding takes a right and appears to ask for a time out, fight goes on. Harding rallies a bit at the end.
Round 2: Harding nails Jones and she goes down. Jones freaks and starts running from Harding, hiding behind the ref. JONES GOES DOWN with a right.
Round 3. Jones gets hit and runs, and runs, then runs some more, and when she tries to quit Harding nails her in the back of the head.
Harding by TKO.
Am I ashamed? Not at all. Jones actually showed some class.
What sort of freaked me out was this. I went to dinner with my parents this evening. During dinner I meantioned this show and my Dad said he was going to watch. My Dad, the retired PHD in Math, Master in Physics, ran a nuclear reactor saftey division Dad. I should have figured because he used to like the A Team, but still, sorta strange.
Eric
Is this for real? I didn’t watch, did actual celebrities box with each other? What would have possessed them to do such a thing.
Oh, as far as your Dad, the Math Phd, liking the show, You may know this better than I, but it has been my experience that Math grad students just loooove low culture. Maybe it’s just my Math grad housemate and his math grad friends, I don’t know, all I know is that they love WWF and monster truck rallies.
Well at least some of them were doing it for charity. Not sure about Tonya Harding and Paula Jones though.
Also did anyone notice that the winner of each fight had “Golden Palace .com” written on thier backs? And the losers didn’t?
Now that you mention that, it did look like Paula took a dive after the first round.
I said I wasn’t going to watch, I taped around it and watched it anyway
Loved it!
My namesake rallied pretty well, he ddn’t give up.
Danny was good, I knew he’d win; he’d had enough practice after a few years ago boxing Donny Osmond.
Paula was a last minute replacement and hadn’t practiced.
Amy Fisher would’ve been an equal match.
Loved a fans sign in the audience: Tayna!
What I thought was so entertaining, was Jones’ method of everytime the ref broke Harding and her apart, Jones ran around behind the ref to keep him between her and Harding. It was so delightfully Three Stooges.
I got a lot of respect for Paula Jones last night. She fought a world class athlete, knew she was the tremendous underdog, had little training time and went in the ring (at least for the first round) with a chance to win (nice right to Harding’s chin!). Yep, lots of respect for Paula. Then I realized that Paula Jones was boxing Tanya Harding on TV and lost all of that newfound respect.
By far, the highlight of the evening was listening to the announcer using all the boxing cliches a la “Down goes Williams! Down goes Williams!”. And let’s talk about the audience. Where did they get these people? I also expect that the production staff handed out signs to people and said, “Here. Hold this up during the match and cheer for the person on your placard.”
And what was up with “You get a thrilla in Vanilla” crap?
Yeah I watched, wanna make sumthin’ of it?
I watched it, and i’m proud of it! I like how they said repeatedly it was the FIRST celebrity boxing, implying that they will do more if it gets halfway decent ratings.
How much would you guess was paid to the celebrities? Do you think they did it mostly for the money, or to receive the new publicity?
Loved it now I wanna see a match between Gary Coleman and Emanuel Louis!!
BEST MOMENT: Checking Barry Williams the Ref grabs his sides acidentaly shifting a huge mound of fat upwards in a visible Jiggle.
NOW FOX GIVE US CELEBRITY BLOOD SPORTS… It’s about time they paid for the millions they earn playing like kids.
OK, we’ve got “Playboy Bunnies on Fear Factor”, “Eat Till you Puke” on Fox, and now washed-up celebrity boxing, also on Fox, Howard Stern replacing Ted Koppel. Did I miss the memo on our networks being replaced with their identical twins from Bizarro-Robocop World? (“I’ll buy THAT for a dollar!!”)
I think Jones was trying to protect her new nose.
Why did one person of each match have the name of a website written on their back? The winners all did. Might have been a clue.
Ooh, I concur, that was an excellent jubbly jiggling the ref gave Williams, serious cleavage points.
Does anyone else get the feeling that Tonya Harding could beat up both Todd Bridges and Danny Bonaduce? Scary woman.
The hell I did. I watched Drew Carey and The Job. What really infuriated me is that other networks talked about the show on their news broadcasts, thereby giving FOX even more undeserved publicity.
